In Sync - The Emergence of Function in Minds, Groups and Societies (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Andrzej K. Nowak, Robin R.... In Sync - The Emergence of Function in Minds, Groups and Societies (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Andrzej K. Nowak, Robin R. Vallacher, Ryszard Praszkier, Agnieszka Rychwalska, Michal Zochowski
R1,421 Discovery Miles 14 210 Ships in 10 - 17 working days

This book introduces the reader to the concept of functional synchronization and how it operates on very different levels in psychological and social systems - from the emergence of thought to the formation of social relations and the structure of societies. For years, psychologists have investigated phenomena such as self-concept, social judgment, social relations, group dynamics, and cooperation and conflict, but have discussed these phenomena seoarately. This book shows how synchronization provides a foundational approach to these otherwise distinct and diverse psychological processes. This work shows that there is a basic tendency with many processes to become coordinated and progressively integrated into increasingly larger units through well-defined processes. For these larger units, new and largely adaptive functions emerge. Although synchronization affords progressive integration of system elements to enable correspondingly higher-order functions, the trajectory of synchronization is often characterized by periods of assembly and disassembly of system elements. This occurs when a task is completed and synchronization is no longer essential so that the elements once again operate in an independent fashion. It is argued that the disassembly-resynchronization scenario occurs at all levels of psychological and social reality. The implications of this approach for important issues in interpersonal relations and societal processes are discussed.

Empowering Leadership of Tomorrow (Hardcover): Ryszard Praszkier Empowering Leadership of Tomorrow (Hardcover)
Ryszard Praszkier
R2,795 Discovery Miles 27 950 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Empowering Leadership of Tomorrow examines leadership that enables and empowers others to co-participate, co-create, and experience the joy of creativity. It proposes a kind of leadership that fosters bottom-up dynamics, empowering people, groups, teams, and societies. Praszkier shows how this approach, called Empowering Leadership (EL), can drive success in business and, in the case of social entrepreneurship, have an immense social impact. Furthermore, he shows that EL style is also beneficial in other fields, such as parenting and counseling. The book presents diverse case studies from business and social arenas, as well as from family life. It establishes practical guidelines for leadership development, including methods to enhance creativity, and also casts an eye toward the future, demonstrating approaches to navigating future scenarios in a complex and unpredictable environment.

Working Wonders - How to Make the Impossible Happen (Hardcover): Ryszard Praszkier Working Wonders - How to Make the Impossible Happen (Hardcover)
Ryszard Praszkier
R2,005 Discovery Miles 20 050 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The difference between what's possible and what's not is a construct of the human mind, a matter of perspective, and it's one that can be changed. Working Wonders explains the fundamentals that shape the mind: how it builds walls to protect itself and how a person can tear those walls down to tackle challenges that would have previously been discounted as unrealistic. This volume shares case studies featuring people making the impossible a reality and, in doing so, changing the world for the better. On a deeper level and yet still using non-technical language, the book identifies possible neurological and psychosocial mechanisms that limit the brain, and techniques that may open it up to exploring the seemingly unachievable. Praszkier also introduces the concept of 'possibilitivity', a personality trait that reflects the propensity to perceive insurmountable challenges as doable, and concludes by presenting a portfolio of 'Do It Yourself' techniques.
