Previous studies of H. Richard Niebuhr's intellectual background
have fallen into two groups: those that stress the German and
especially Kantian sources of Niebuhr's thought, and those that
emphasize the American and especially pragmatic sources of his
thought. Joseph S. Pagano provides a way beyond these seemingly
antagonistic positions. Through careful readings of the
philosophical background of the triadic structure, Pagano
demonstrates that Niebuhr's intellectual background was both
Kantian and pragmatic. He also provides the first book-length study
of the development of the triadic structure of faith in Niebuhr's
theology and ethics. This book is a particularly insightful
reference for scholars in ethics, religious studies, theology,
philosophy, and church history.

This open access book addresses four standard business school
subjects: microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance and information
systems as they relate to trading, liquidity, and market structure.
It provides a detailed examination of the impact of trading costs
and other impediments of trading that the authors call "frictions".
It also presents an interactive simulation model of equity market
trading, TraderEx, that enables students to implement trading
decisions in different market scenarios and structures. Addressing
these topics shines a bright light on how a real-world financial
market operates, and the simulation provides students with an
experiential learning opportunity that is informative and fun. Each
of the chapters is designed so that it can be used as a stand-alone
module in an existing economics, finance, or information science
course. Instructor resources such as discussion questions,
Powerpoint slides and TraderEx exercises are available online.
The on-going developments, and the recent achievements of the
superconducting electronics (especially in the field of Josephson
junctions and the inherent nonlinear dynamics) inspired us to
organize a conference where different groups working on the subject
could meet and discuss the latest results of their investigations.
This idea was realized as two joint workshops, the NATO Advanced
Research Workshop on Superconducting Electronics with Prof. N.F.
Pedersen as chairman, and the 2nd Workshop on Josephson Devices,
with Profs. G. Costabile and M. Russo as chairmen, held in Capri,
Italy on September 3-7, 1990. The Workshops were very successful.
About 70 scientists from 12 countries (Denmark, France, Germany,
Greece, Italy, Japan, People's Republic of China, Sweden, United
Kingdom, USA, USSR, and Venezuela) enjoyed the many interesting and
mostly informal occasions for scientific exchanges as well as the
very pleasant weather of Southern Italy. We are very grateful to
the Institutions which made possible the realization and the
success of the conference with their financial support : NATO
Science Committee through the NATO International Scientific
Exchange Programmes, University of Salerno, and Istituto di
Cibernetica of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (C.N.R.) of
Italy. The conference was held under the auspices of the Progetto
Finalizzato "Superconductive and Cryogenic Technologies" of C.N.R.
Finally special thanks go to our Conference Secretary Anna Maria
Mazzarella for carrying out most of the organizative work, and for
her continuous "on stage" support in solving all the problems which
inevitably arise in such occasions.

Synopsis: A Man, A Woman, A Word of Love is a new collection of
sermons by two of the finest preachers in the Episcopal Church
today. They also happen to be married to each other. Beautifully
written, compassionate, theologically astute, and oftentimes very
funny, these sermons provide fresh insight into the inexhaustible
riches of God's Word. Following the unfolding story of God's love
in Scripture and tradition, Pagano and Richter lift up different
dimensions of God's love celebrated in the different seasons of the
church year. Informed by the pastoral sensitivity that comes from
years of serving congregations, the wisdom that comes from years of
study, and the grace and wit that comes from years of marriage,
Pagano and Richter offer powerful sermons that glory in the
reconciling love of God and invite us into the ongoing adventure of
being known, redeemed, and transformed by that love. These are
sermons for everyone who wants to know and love the God who already
knows and loves each and every one of us. Endorsements: "Joe and
Amy's sermons are a gift to the church; they are a joy to read and
hear. Like the very best short stories, their sermons are
beautifully constructed, but so infused with warmth, wit, and
wisdom that we are carried away by the narrative. They offer
something for everyone: gentle humor, scholarly observations,
penetrating insights, and often goose bumps--leading us into
discovery about our call as Christians." --Sarah Johnson, Writer
and Editor, Sermons that Work, The Episcopal Church "Engaging
Scripture and the liturgical seasons to trace the movement of love
and desire, Joe Pagano and Amy Richter give us personal,
theological reflections in the form of sermons to propel the
imagination of preachers and nurture all in the journey into God.
They know how to tell a story, play with an image, detail matters
of faith, shape a prayer, and proclaim the presence of God. This is
no collection of sermons, but a well-crafted apologia." --Timothy
F. Sedgwick, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of
Christian Ethics, Virginia Theological Seminary "I invite you to
read this book It is a treasure trove of exquisite jewels and
precious metals, each shining through with the life and love of
God. Creative, intimate, at times funny, deeply grounded in
Scripture, and above all, loving." --Mary D. Glasspool, Bishop
Suffragan, Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles Author Biography: The
Rev. Joseph S. Pagano is Associate Rector at St. Anne's Episcopal
Church in Annapolis, Maryland, and Affiliate Professor of Theology
at Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the author of

Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance found among the lipids (fats)
in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells. It is transported
to and from the cells by special carriers called lipoproteins. This
book focuses on the two main types of lipoproteins- low-density
lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is the
major cholesterol carrier in the blood. If too much LDL cholesterol
circulates in the blood, it can cause atherosclerosis and/or
clotting. HDL is known as "good cholesterol" because a high HDL
level seems to protect against a heart attack. About one-third to
one-fourth of blood cholesterol is carried by HDL. This book
focuses on ways to reduce LDL-cholesterol levels, and therefore
reduce the risk of serious health problems. Other factors that
affect cholesterol levels, such as cigarette smoking and diabetes,
are looked at as well. Different treatments, such as
pharmacological therapies for high or low cholesterol levels are
also examined.
