University libraries have to deal with the needs of researchers in
various disciplines preferably in science disciplines. The
requirements of research and researcher are ever changing and
dynamic in nature. To meet the ever growing needs of the science
scholars it is the responsibility of the university libraries to
provide right information to the right researchers in right form
and at the right time. Due to the advancement of the technology and
with the big hands of INFLIBNET, UGC Infonet E-consortium is come
into being to satisfy the needs of the scholars quickly and
rightly. Gradually, the e-journals come into being along with the
print journals. But there is a big question how far libraries are
able to meet the requirements of the science scholars even in the
21st century? How science scholars are friendly with the e-journals
concept? Etc. keeping these views in mind the present study is an
attempt to know the attitudes of the science research scholars
towards E-Journals in the Visva-Bharati, a Central University.
Considering the present library services regarding the usage of
E-Journal, the study has furnished some suggestions for the
betterment..
Professional courses are much more attractive to the students and
parents to get Job-confirmation after successful completion of the
course. It was our curiosity, to explore the fact about the gap in
between expectations of the users of Professional Faculties and the
ability of the Libraries to meet the requirements of its users. The
reasons of choosing professional faculties is of multi-fold such
as; the faculty of Library and Information Science is considered
under the professional faculties; it is observed that the students
and members of faculty of the Professional faculties must have back
ground of basic discipline and therefore study of professional
faculties indirectly covers almost all the faculties; since the
students are awaiting to get job immediate after completion of the
course, so it is expected that the infrastructure including library
will be as best as possible to enable them in the competitive
job-market, etc. In view of the above the present study is an
attempt to identify the problems faced by the users of the library,
service provided by the library and finally study would like to
provide some suggestions/guidelines to overcome the hurdles as
traced out.
Like other states of India, the university libraries of West Bengal
have already initiated the mission of application of information
and communication technologies (ICTs) since 1999-2000. But, the
rate of progress is not satisfactory and the mission may lose its
reliability to the academic society. The study is an attempt to
identify whether there is any role of library human resources in
the successful completion of the ICTs application in the libraries.
What are the problems behind under-performance of the library
personnel? Is it possible to develop a scientific basis, for the
period required to enter particular amount of data by using library
management software? The study has been conducted through direct
interview cum observation with a structured questionnaire,
Regression analysis and chi-square test has been used as
appropriate statistical techniques along with the different chart,
diagram etc. For consulting required materials e.g. books,
journals, annual report, both print and non-print were taken into
consideration. The university libraries of this state are still in
hybrid system and automation is yet to ready to its target
