In ancient Rome, an alter ego, or "the other I," was considered to be not only a second self but also a trusted friend. It was believed to be distinct from a person's normal personality. Collected in this book are stories of heroes who not only battle injustice, criminals and super-villains; but they also must battle their other selves. These heroes learn that sometimes the hardest foe to defeat is the one that lies within. Alter Egos is back in this second volume with sensational short stories and poems written by some of today's best sci-fi and action authors including a story by David J. Fielding, better known as "Zordon" from the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers.
The Socialist Revolutionaries (SRs) were the largest political
party in Russia in the crucial revolutionary year of 1917. Heirs to
the legacy of the People's Will movement, the SRs were unabashed
proponents of peasant rebellion and revolutionary terror,
emphasizing the socialist transformation of the countryside and a
democratic system of government as their political goals. They
offered a compelling, but still socialist, alternative to the
Bolsheviks, yet by the early 1920s their party was shattered and
its members were branded as enemies of the revolution. In 1922, the
SR leaders became the first fellow socialists to be condemned by
the Bolsheviks as "counter-revolutionaries" in the prototypical
Soviet show trial.
This report presents the results of analysis and characterization of uncertainty in traffic demand predictions using Enhanced Traffic Management System (ETMS) data and probabilistic representation of the predictions. Our previous research, described in two prior reports, was focused on analysis of aggregate 15-minute traffic demand predictions in ETMS, on improving the accuracy of these predictions and increasing the stability of the ETMS monitor/alert function, while not explicitly considering the uncertainty in predictions of flight events for individual flights. This study continues the previous one. It also focuses on uncertainty in traffic demand predictions, but, unlike the previous one, it explicitly considers uncertainty in individual flights' predictions for estimation of uncertainty in aggregate demand count predictions at National Airspace System (NAS) elements and for probabilistic representation of those predictions.
The Orange Bowl Stadium. Put to rest and carted away in 2008. It was an example of a bygone era in sports stadium architecture, when simple design provided a basic function. A place just for football born in the late 1930's. The book is not about football so much, but a visual memory for the scores of fans who may not have realized the last game attended would be their final time in the stadium. The first chapter revisits my family's photos from the 1939 game to the 1970's. Chapter Two begins with the condition of the stadium in January, 2008, and leads to the demolition period. Finally, a chapter of aerial images compiled through the years completes the story. I attempted to capture many of the seat locations and the view to the field. Individual fine art prints are available from any image in the book. The architectural survey was completed in January, 2008, and demolition finished in late spring.
The purpose of this research is to examine the accuracy of predicted ETMS airport and sector counts, and to attempt to develop better prediction algorithms. The remainder of this report is in six sections. Section 1 Quality of Current Predictions Discussion of the accuracy of current flight predictions for a given location and 15-minute time interval. Section 2 New Models for Predicting the Number of Flights The development and calibration of new models for predicting the number of flights in a 15-minute time interval. Section 3 Testing Model 2 Discussion of the testing of one promising new model. Section 4 Relationship between Flight Predictions and Monitor/Alert Discussion of the relationship between flight predictions and alerts, along with some performance metrics for alerts. Section 5 Conclusion Section 6 Next Steps Section 7 References"
