Tobacco has been variously hailed as a gift from the gods, a miraculous cure-all for life's physical ills, a solace to the lonely soldier or sailor, a filthy habit, a corrupting addiction, and the greatest disease-producing product known to man. Tobacco in any form is a major independent risk factor for the development of oral and pharyngeal cancer and other malignancies of the upper aerodigestive tract. Tobacco contains several distinct compounds, some of which are capable of inducing mutagenesis, and facilitate tumorigenesis. It is believed that they exert their action by damaging the DNA and therefore inducing mutations and could ultimately lead to cancer. The dangers posed to oral health from smoking and chewing tobacco are well documented within the dental literature but the public's lack of knowledge of the risks is a concern. However it is vital that more is done to ensure that public awareness of tobacco-related oral diseases continues to improve and more people are regularly screened. The combination of providing opportunistic advice, together with regular screening will reduce the overall morbidity and mortality from oral cancer and other mouth disorders.

Mild steel suffers from severe corrosion in aggressive medium of acids during pickling processes. The use of inhibitors is one of the most effective and practical methods of protection of corrosion of metals in acid medium. Hydrochloric acid is widely used for pickling, descaling and chemical cleaning processes of mild steel. About 90% of pickling problems can be solved by introducing appropriate picking inhibitor to the medium. Owing to strict environmental legislation the emphasis is being focused on development of naturally occurring substances as corrosion inhibitors. Due to ease of application, cost effectiveness, environmentally safe, soluble and highly stable nature in acidic solutions, in this study, the inhibitory effect of six plant extracts Adathoda vasica, Aegle marmelos, Centella asiatica, Eclipta alba, Ocimum sanctum, Solanum trilobatum on the corrosion of mild steel in 1N hydrochloric acid was investigated by Weight loss method, Gasometric method, Potentiodynamic Polarization method and Impedance method and found to be effective corrosion pickling inhibitors.

This book describes a method of cephalometric evaluation of the craniofacial complex. Although the cephalometric analysis is inspired by the counterpart principle of Enlow, certain parameters in the vertical evaluation of the craniofacial complex as described in this book are different and cannot be found in many books on cephalometrics or orthodontics. Also, several additional ratios have been established for sagittal evaluation. All the measurements in this book are expressed as ratios. The inclination of cranial base is the only angular measurement evaluated. The sagittal and vertical segments, the facial heights, the facial depth are some of the parameters described and measured in this book. The book also elaborates on the segments of the craniofacial complex that are in dimensional balance and those that are in imbalance.

The author explores the concept of sustainable peace which she regards as a major aspiration of the modernecumenical movement in the post World War 2 period. Many who promote official ecumenism consider justice and freedom as two of the constitutive elements of sustainable peace and a condition for human existence. As part of this discussion she views the tension between voluntarily chosen evangelical poverty and forced poverty that arise in ecumenical discussions as a major challenge to sustainable peace in the 21st century. She introduces the concept of informal ecumenism as the religious culture born out of the immigrants' struggle to hold a balance between their religious identity and the secular identity of the nations in which they live.The characteristics that emerge out of the worship life of the immigrants are depicted as the spirit of informal ecumenism that can contribute to the renewal of Protestant ecumenism. She treats the Asian Diaspora communities as examples, and traces both the ambiguities and promises of immigrant life, and shows how their longing for sustainable peace contributes to their eventual evolution as "pilgrims of peace."
