Interviewing is one of the most effective ways to identify and attract employees who will be successful enough to stay. But few managers are adept at the skill. This book helps eliminate expensive errors of judgment by presenting readers with a set of behaviorally based interviewing strategies. Written by the faculty of the prestigious University of Michigan Executive Education Center--and based on one of their most popular courses--its seven-step "Strategic Interviewing Approach" helps interviewers define the competencies candidates need to possess and make hiring decisions based on accurate predictions of the candidates' performance.
European economies are becoming increasingly integrated, and at the
same time, the world economy is becoming global. This has raised
questions about the specific strategies followed by transnational
companies. It also raises the issue of whether the drive towards
integration is compatible with that towards globalization
strategies; whether, and to what extent, they strengthen each
other. "European Integration and Global Corporate Strategies"
explores the links between the options of world-wide globalization
and European integration which are open to today's corporations,
highlighting whether there are conflicts or complementaries between
them. The book is divided into two parts: the first part looks at
specific mechanisms and trends of globalization in the context of
changes due to European integration. The second part considers the
role of innovation and technology diffusion as part of the
integration and globalization strategies. All the contributors are
experts from Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. This book
should be of particular interest to students and researchers in the
fields of business, economics, politics and European studies.

A HERO TO SOME. A VILLAIN TO MANY. THE TRUTH FOREVER BURIED. The
man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed
the world’s greatest empire — but there are those who believe
he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on
three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin
priestess, and sentenced to death by a god — all before the age
of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to
fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery . .
. until now. From the three-time New York Times best-selling author
Michael J. Sullivan, Esrahaddon is the final novel in The Rise and
Fall trilogy. This latest set of stories sits snugly between the
Legends of the First Empire series and the Riyria books
(Revelations and Chronicles). With this tale, Michael continues his
tradition of unlikely heroes who must rise to the call when history
knocks, demanding to be let in. This is the nineteenth full-length
novel in a body of work that started in 2008 and spans four series.

A New York Times Bestseller & Amazon Editor's Pick! After more
than five hundred years of exile, the heir to the empyre is wary
about his sudden reassignment to active duty on the Goblin War’s
front lines. His assignment to rescue an outpost leads to a
dead-end canyon deep inside enemy territory, and his suspicion
turns to dread when he discovers the stronghold does not exist. But
whoever went to the trouble of planning his death to look like a
casualty of war did not know he would be assigned to the Seventh
Sikaria Auxiliary Squadron. In the depths of an unforgiving jungle,
a legend is about to be born, and the world of Elan will never be
the same. From Michael J. Sullivan, the New York Times, USA Today,
and Washington Post bestselling author, a new adventure begins with
the first book in The Rise and Fall trilogy. Although this series
is set in the same world as the Riyria novels and the Legends of
the First Empire books, it is a standalone tale. As such, no prior
knowledge of the other works is required to enjoy this tale to its
fullest.
In attending to surfaces, as they wrap, layer and grow within
sentient bodies, material formations and cosmological states, this
volume presents a series of ten anthropological studies stretching
across five continents and in observation of earthly practices of
making, knowing, living and dying. Through theoretically reflecting
on time spent with Aymara and Mapuche Andean cultures; the Malagasy
people of Madagascar; craftspeople and designers across Europe and
Oceania; amongst the architectures of Australia and South Korea and
within the folds of books, screens, landscape and the sea, the
anthropologists in this volume communicate diverse ways of
considering, working with and knowing surfaces. Together, these
writings advance a knowledge of the world which resists any
definitive settlement of existential categories and rather seeks to
know the world in its emergence and transformation, as entities
grow, cohere, shift, dissolve, decay and are reborn through the
contact and exchange of surfaces, persisting with varying time,
power and effect. The book principally invites readers from
anthropology, the creative arts and environmental studies, but also
across the wider humanities and social sciences as well as those in
neighbouring scientific fields of archaeology, biology, geography,
geoscience, material science, neurology and psychology interested
in the intersections of mind, body, materials and world.
The former camp of Fossoli in northern Italy was established in
1942 by the Royal Italian Army as a camp for prisoners of war,
later becoming a Nazi-Fascist concentration and transit camp for
political opponents, Jews and forced labourers. After the war it
became a Catholic community for orphans and a camp for refugees
from the former Italian territories of Istria until 1970. A complex
system of memory and heritage stems from the legacy of the former
camp: its remains, the Museum and Monument to the Political and
Racial Deportee by architects BBPR, and the synagogues of Carpi.
The Fondazione Fossoli, created in Carpi in 1996, manages this
legacy with the purpose of preserving and transmitting the
historical memory of the Fossoli camp. Linking together the history
of the Holocaust, the resistance to Nazi-Fascism and the political
and civic commitment that inspired the birth of the Italian
Republic after the dictatorship and the war, Fossoli lies at the
very core of Italy's contemporary cultural memory. The essays in
this volume analyse, from different disciplinary perspectives, the
material and immaterial heritage that constitutes a rich and
articulated memorial system today. Texts by Lorenzo Bertucelli,
Matteo Cassani Simonetti, Pierluigi Castagnetti, Paolo Faccio,
Robert S. C. Gordon, Viviana Gravano, Giovanni Leoni, Marzia Luppi,
Roberta Mira, Daniele Salerno, Andrea Ugolini and Patrizia Violi.

Sentient Conceptualisations is about how scientists studying the
past understand time in relation to space. Simonetti argues that
the feelings for depths and surfaces, arising from the bodily
movements and gestures of scientific practice, strongly influence
conceptualisations of space and time. With an anthropological eye,
Simonetti explores the ways archaeologists and those from related
disciplines develop expert knowledge in varied environments. The
book draws on ethnographic work carried out with Chilean and
Scottish archaeologists, working both on land and underwater, to
analyse in depth the visual language of science and what it reveals
about the relation between thinking and feeling.
This work is a game-changer! Recognizing an all too often tragic
outcome ("School to Prison Pipeline"), it provides the tools to
alter prognosis. Attention hones the identification and treatment
of those underlying and often overlooked causative factors that
result in long-term reading failure. Smart Kids, Struggling
Readers. reconsiders the current models and methods for Teaching
Reading. It offers creative strategies that support and enhance
existing research-based techniques. It provides efficient and
effective methods that rapidly ameliorate the overt and subtle
interference to skills mastery. Rapid progress is assured because
intervention supports both Academic and Affective needs. The novel
instructional plan, Reading In A Nutshell, incorporates the strong
intellectual potential bright students bring to task. The learner
comes to apply information (metacognition, error analysis,
instructional options) as a primary functional tool. Slow-paced
repetitive practice and drills are avoided.

What is the connection between philosophical enquiries and
storytelling in contemporary narrative? Is it possible to outline
some features of a so-called philosophical fiction in Western
literature throughout the last two centuries? This book aims to
provide a plural answer, hosting extensive essays by seven young
researchers coming from different fields (Theory of literature,
German, American, Russian and Italian contemporary literature,
history and evolution of the essayistic form). A short The volume
is addressed to all those with a strong interest in both evolution
of philosophical speech and history of the novel and has a strong
vocation to promote interdisciplinarity in literary studies.

Some truths are dangerous, certain secrets best concealed, and one
story never should have been written at all. Being an unwanted twin
in the imperial line of succession, Farilane becomes a scholar, an
adventurer, and—in a time when reading is forbidden—a hunter of
books. Her singular obsession is finding the mythical Book of Brin,
a tome not just lost but intentionally buried. Although she is
respected and beloved by the Teshlor Knights, not even their
legendary skills can protect her, for what she finds is more
dangerous than what she sought. From the three-time New York Times
best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan, Farilane is the second
novel in The Rise and Fall trilogy. This latest set of stories sits
snugly between the Legends of the First Empire series and the
Riyria books (Revelations and Chronicles). With this tale, Michael
continues his tradition of unlikely heroes who must rise to the
call when history knocks, demanding to be let in. This series will
conclude in the summer of 2023 with the release of Esrahaddon, the
final piece in a narrative that began in 2008 and contains nineteen
full-length novels spread across four series.

This book compiles all current information on the different types
of functionalization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene, both
covalent and non-covalent. The book starts with a general overview
of the synthesis, characterization and application of
functionalized CNTs and graphene. Special attention is dedicated to
the characterization of functionalized materials, a topic rarely
addressed on the literature. The authors provide a comparison
between the functionalization of these two types of carbon
materials.
The dramatic evolution of new technology in diagnostic and
therapeutic radiology has changed the whole field of medicine.
Ultrasonography, computed tomography, nuclear magnetic resonance,
and digital radiography are those new techniques which are
undergoing continuous development, providing us with increasingly
re fined methods for establishing the cause of disease and for
treating the patient. Using radiologic technique, ingenious methods
are continuously being developed to en sure less expensive, less
traumatic, and more efficient therapy. Transluminal angio plasty,
embolization of tumors or bleeding vessels, extraction or
dissolution of stones, and regional infusions are some of these
therapeutic methods in modem diagnostic radiology. Every day new
ideas arise which are published in a multitude of papers. This
heavy flow of information limits the possibility of selecting from
a core of information and often prevents radiologists from
communicating efficiently with their colleagues in other countries
or continents. European radiologists are additionally hampered from
participating in international communication because of the
language barriers created by the national journals. As a result,
Europe's contribution to scientific progress in this
interdisciplinary field has influenced only regional developments."
Now a USA TODAY BEST-SELLER, The Sound of Wings is a masterfully
crafted tale of love, friendship, betrayal, and the risks we take
in the pursuit of justice. Seventy-year-old Goldie Sparrows faces
declining finances, questionable health, and a late husband who
torments her from the beyond. She seeks refuge in her butterfly
garden, which is filled with voices and memories from long ago.
Jocelyn Anderson is a struggling writer who finds escape from her
custody battle in the journal of her late mother-in-law. As she
gets pulled through the pages of time, Jocelyn discovers her own
husband has a hidden history she knows nothing about. Is this
secret now Jocelyn's to keep? Krystal Axelrod is living a life she
never dreamed she could have. And yet the demons of a dysfunctional
childhood and mean girl culture from her cheerleading days cast
their shadow over her ability to feel whole, capable, and worthy.
Does Goldie hold the key to Krystal's path to freedom?
