"Water and Health" strengthens the dynamic relationship between
human health and water. The book has the potential to ignite our
minds about several water-related diseases due to biological and
chemical contamination, and to their high-end solutions. The
contents are original, comprehensive and highly informative, and
gradually take the reader around the component most important to
his or her quality life, and not just existence. The book is set in
social, scientific and economic dimensions, and is a must read for
all those who cherish and celebrate human life and dignity.
This book highlights the state-of-the-art research on data usage,
security, and privacy in the scenarios of the Internet of Things
(IoT), along with related applications using Machine Learning and
Big Data technologies to design and make efficient
Internet-compatible IoT systems. ICT and Data Sciences brings
together IoT and Machine Learning and provides the careful
integration of both, along with many examples and case studies. It
illustrates the merging of two technologies while presenting basic
to high-level concepts covering different fields and domains such
as the Hospitality and Tourism industry, Smart Clothing, Cyber
Crime, Programming, Communications, Business Intelligence, all in
the context of the Internet of Things. The book is written for
researchers and practitioners, working in Information Communication
Technology and Computer Science.

This book provides an overview of the applications of ion beam
techniques in oxide materials. Oxide materials exhibit
defect-induced physical properties relevant to applications in
sensing, optoelectronics and spintronics. Defects in these oxide
materials also lead to magnetism in non-magnetic materials or to a
change of magnetic ordering in magnetic materials. Thus, an
understanding of defects is of immense importance. To date, ion
beam tools are considered the most effective techniques for
producing controlled defects in these oxides. This book will detail
the ion beam tools utilized for creating defects in oxides.
Defect Induced Magnetism in Oxide Semiconductors provides an
overview on the latest advances of defect engineering to create new
magnetic materials and enable new technological applications.
Sections introduce the mechanisms, behavior and theory of magnetism
in oxide semiconductors and review methods of inducing magnetism in
these materials. Then, strategies such as pulsed laser deposition
and RF sputtering to grow oxide nanostructured materials with
induced magnetism are discussed. This is followed by a review of
the most relevant post-deposition methods to induce magnetism in
oxide semiconductors, including annealing, ion irradiation, and ion
implantation. Examples of defect induced magnetism in oxide
semiconductors are then provided, along with selected applications.
This title will be suitable reference for researchers in academia
and practitioners in research and development in industry working
in the disciplines of materials science and engineering.
The present investigation entitled "Genetics of slow rusting
resistance in field pea" was carried out with a view to analyze the
inheritance pattern of components of rust resistance and yield and
yield traits in pea (Pisum sativum L.). Using first order
statistics (the generation means analysis and the protection
experiment) and the second order statistics (the heritability,
genetic advance, phenotypic correlation and path-coefficients).
Based on above information one can elucidate the nature of gene
action involved in governing the expression of components of
resistance called slow rusting components. Slow rusting components
are those components which slow down the epidemic buildup of the
pathogen despite a compatible interaction between the host and the
pathogen and are quantitative in nature. Further, the findings of
the work presented in this manuscript may serve as a sound tool to
formulate the appropriate breeding strategy for the improvement and
management of pea crop against the rust disease.
The Experimental protocols of Immunology & Molecular Biology
are presented so as to be readily used at the laboratory bench.
Although a number of the procedures described represent the tried
and trusted, we have striven to include variants on existing
technologies that an experiment can be performed. These
step-by-step protocols are intended to be concise and easy to
follow. Suggestions to successfully apply the procedures are
included, along with recommended materials. A special feature is
that, in addition to the protocols, important background
information and representative results of applying the methods are
given. The aim of this book to provide a self-contained laboratory
manual which will be useful to Graduate, Post Graduates &
Research Scholars of Life sciences of various universities and
colleges.
Applications Transition metal complexes of acylhydrazones and
related N, O donor Schiff bases and their metal complexes have
attracted considerable attention during recent years because of
their applications in several bio-chemical, industrial and
analytical processes. Some of the applications of these compounds
are mentioned below: As biological probes As optical devices As
catalyst Mesogenic behavior As sensing material As DNA cleaving
agents Super oxide dismutase-mimic activity In analytical processes
Other uses The hydrazones have been used as plasticizers and
stabilizers for polymers Kuhn et al. (2001), Gupta et al. (2007)],
polymerization initiators and antioxidants etc. Hydrazone compounds
have the ability to control the release of volatile aldehydes and
ketones Levrand et al. (2006)]. The phenyl derivative Schiff bases
have been used as corrosion inhibitors for aluminium in
hydrochloric solution Unaleroglu et al. (2001)]. It is apparent
from the above applications that the selected field of transition
metal complexes of N, O donor ligands is very useful and
multi-dimensional. Each new ligand/ new complex or new study gives
a new direction to the area of research.
Humanity is facing a colossal problem due to a population explosion
and the relentless exploitation of natural resources. Biotechnology
is one of the most cutting edge fields of technology, which has the
prospective to address some of the worlds paramount challenges,
such as feeding a rising population and offering novel alternatives
to our limited natural resources. The ultimate objective of
biotechnology is to meet human requirements in order to improve our
quality of life. Due to progressive and comprehensive research and
development, the prominence of biotechnology has come into
existence. It is widely used in agriculture, medicine, engineering,
science, technology and other forms of applications, and can be
harnessed as a panacea for the problems of mankind. Apart from the
research in the field concerning transgenic animals and plants, use
of various microorganism derived products in microbiology has
changed the way biotic and abiotic components of the Earth
interact. This book shows how the use of biotechnology is evolving
and expanding, highlighting the methods that can prove to
positively affect our future and planet.
