The present investigation entitled "Genetics of slow rusting
resistance in field pea" was carried out with a view to analyze the
inheritance pattern of components of rust resistance and yield and
yield traits in pea (Pisum sativum L.). Using first order
statistics (the generation means analysis and the protection
experiment) and the second order statistics (the heritability,
genetic advance, phenotypic correlation and path-coefficients).
Based on above information one can elucidate the nature of gene
action involved in governing the expression of components of
resistance called slow rusting components. Slow rusting components
are those components which slow down the epidemic buildup of the
pathogen despite a compatible interaction between the host and the
pathogen and are quantitative in nature. Further, the findings of
the work presented in this manuscript may serve as a sound tool to
formulate the appropriate breeding strategy for the improvement and
management of pea crop against the rust disease.
