Smart Science, Design & Technology represents the proceedings
of the 5th International Conference on Applied System Innovation
(ICASI 2019), which was held in Fukuoka, Japan, April 12-18, 2019.
The conference received more than 300 submitted papers from at
least 20 different countries, whereby one third of these papers was
selected by the committees and invited to present at ICASI 2019.
The resulting book aims to provide an integrated communication
platform for researchers active in a wide range of fields including
information technology, communication science, applied mathematics,
computer science, advanced material science, and engineering. Major
breakthroughs are being made by interdisciplinary collaborations
between science and engineering technologists in academia and
industry within this unique international network. Smart Science
has emerged as a separate discipline, involving innovative
practices, methodologies and processes.

This volume represents the proceedings of the 7th International
Conference on Innovation, Communication and Engineering (ICICE
2018), which was held in P.R. China, November 9-14, 2018. The
conference aimed to provide an integrated communication platform
for researchers in a wide range of fields including information
technology, communication science, applied mathematics, computer
science, advanced material science, and engineering. Hopefully, the
conference and resulting proceedings will enhance interdisciplinary
collaborations between science and engineering technologists in
academia and industry within this unique international network.
This volume represents the proceedings of the 2013 International
Conference on Innovation, Communication and Engineering (ICICE
2013). This conference was organized by the China University of
Petroleum (Huadong/East China) and the Taiwanese Institute of
Knowledge Innovation, and was held in Qingdao, Shandong, P.R.
China, October 26 - November 1, 2013. The conference received 653
submitted papers from 10 countries, of which 214 papers were
selected by the committees to be presented at ICICE 2013. The
conference provided a unified communication platform for
researchers in a wide range of fields from information technology,
communication science, and applied mathematics, to computer
science, advanced material science, design and engineering. This
volume enables interdisciplinary collaboration between science and
engineering technologists in academia and industry as well as
networking internationally. Consists of a book of abstracts (260
pp.) and a USB flash card with full papers (912 pp.).
This design guide was written to capture the author's practical
experience of designing, building and testing multi-rotor drone
systems over the past decade. The lack of one single source of
useful information meant that the past 10 years has been a steep
learning curve, a lot of self-tuition and many trial and error
tests. Lessons learnt the hard way are not always the best way to
learn. This book will be useful for the amateur drone pilot who
wants to build their own system from first principles, as well as
the academic researcher investigating novel design concepts and
future drone applications.

The 2015 International Conference on Applied System Innovation
(ICASI 2015) was held May 22-27, 2015 in Osaka, Japan and provided
a unified communication platform for researchers active in a wide
range of research fields. Professionals from industry, academia and
government were encouraged to discourse on research and
development, professional practice, business and management in the
information, innovation, communication and engineering fields. This
conference enabled interdisciplinary collaboration between science
and engineering technologists in the academic and industry fields
as well as networking internationally. The conference received 1063
submitted papers, whereby 421 papers were selected by the
committees to be presented at the ICASI 2015 conference. These
papers were divided into 13 Regular Sessions and 13 Invited
Sessions, and presented in several parallel sessions. The ICASI
2015 committees selected 226 excellent papers for publication in
this proceedings volume, covering topics ranging from information
technology, innovation design, communication science and
engineering, industrial design, creative design, applied
mathematics, computer science, design theory and cultural and
creative research to electrical and electronic engineering,
mechanical and automation engineering, green technology and
architecture engineering and material science, among others.
Protecting the population against the effects of a bioterrorism
attack is one of the most daunting tasks facing government
officials. Some of the information required to make informed
decisions is highly technical, and even the technical experts do
not agree about many of the details or issues involved. This primer
is written for the non-technical policymaker and is designed to
assist him or her in reaching important decisions regarding how
best to help provide early warning of a biological attack. The
authors also present the results of an extensive statistical study
that examined the utility of a system-of-systems approach to
identifying a bioattack. Using a hypothetical system-of-systems
that obtains medically relevant data from 10 sources, the study
reaches several conclusions. Among them, that policymakers:
Reassess efforts currently underway that attempt to capture data
from absenteeism reporting, OTC pharmacy sales and medical claims
reporting, because their value added may not be worth the cost.
Increase efforts to collect medical data. These efforts would
include, but not be limited to, capturing data from doctors'
offices and ER visits, as well as expanded veterinary and
agricultural surveillance. Increase data collection from medical
website visits and nurse helplines. Reassess current plans to
significantly increase the number of biosensors deployed as part of
both the BioWatch and Guardian programs. Finally, the authors
propose testing an innovative approach to monitoring for the
presence of biological pathogens. They recommend that the
23,500-strong workforce of law enforcement officers, firefighters
and mail carriers in Washington, D.C., be monitored daily by
thermal imagers for increases in body temperature. This workforce
is uniformly distributed throughout the city and is both inside and
outside of buildings, thus avoiding some of the problems cited with
the current use of stationary sensor systems.
The authors reveal how, for 60 years, there has been an
unprecedented cover-up by both the British Establishment and
successive generations of historians about the flight of Hitler's
Deputy Rudolf Hess to Scotland in May 1941. Long dismissed as the
misguided attempt of a madman to make contact with a non-existent
British peace party, "Double Standards" shows that Hess's peace
mission was one of the pivotal events of the 20th century - and
that the Establishment had very good reasons for covering up the
truth: the Establishment WAS the peace party that Hess had come to
meet Perhaps even more shockingly, the book reveals that members of
the Royal Family itself - whose involvement in the Hess affair, the
authors say, has been "airbrushed" out of history - were at the
heart of this group. Exposing the wartime propaganda that still
masquerades as fact, and based on new material from eyewitnesses,
hitherto inaccessible archives and intelligence sources, the book
reveals that Hess's peace mission was of supreme importance and
raises some of the most intriguing questions about the history of
the 20th century. The authors' mission is to answer them.
Building upon the theoretical work of Ferenczi, Fairbairn, and
Berliner, the author describes four basic relational patterns in
the lives of abused children: the reliving of abusive
relationships, either as victim or as perpetrator; identification
with the aggressor; masochistic self-blame; and the seeking of
object contact though sex or violence. The interweaving of these
patterns creates what Dr. Prior calls 'relational dilemmas.'
According to him, these four basic relational patterns are held in
place by the child's profound fear of falling into primitive states
of unrelatedness and consequent annihilation anxiety. For example,
the abused child believes that victimization by or identification
with the bad object, no matter how horrible that may be, is
preferable to the psychic disintegration that complete
nonrelatedness creates. Dilemmas of this nature tear apart the
child's psyche, leading to unstable and tormented models of self,
other, and relationship. Object Relations in Severe Trauma provides
sensitive understanding of childhood traumatization and a
conceptual and technical framework for the treatment of patients
both children and adults who have suffered from it."
