P. J. Ell, Stephen Walton, Peter H. Jarritt
R1,410 Discovery Miles 14 100 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The main subject of this book is the investigation of cardiac function and in particular ventricular function with radionuclide-based techniques. Emphasis is given to the study of clinical cases which can routinely occur in the life of a busy cardiological practice, by comparing conventional techniques, such as the electrocardiogram, the echocardiogram or the catheter study, with the newer nuclear medicine imaging procedures. Four basic images are given (end systole, end diastole, amplitude and phase), obtained either with a first pass or an equilibrium methodology, and the information analyzed. The clinical material is not exhaustive but covers a broad spectrum, with examples of coronary artery disease, valvular disease, cardiomyopathy, conduction disease and congenital heart disease. The book is aimed not only at the practising specialist (cardiologist, radiologist, nuclear medicine physician) but also at the general physician and surgeon interested in finding out what modern non invasive nuclear medicine procedures have to offer in the investigation of the heart. London, June 1982 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS We are specially grateful to the Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust for its continuous support and interest."

R810 Discovery Miles 8 100 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Empty or abandoned? A dream incarnate or a nightmare in stone? For a young lottery winner with Tourette's, Wildspur Manor is a fantasy fulfilled when he moves in and begins planning renovation work. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be alone, a problem he decides to meet head on with the aid of technology and alcohol. Obsession soon takes a bear hold, not only regarding the house but also a young woman from its past whose life was tragically short. This will lead him down a dangerous path, and ultimately to a possibilty so fantastical that he is sure he must be dreaming... This mystery/fantasy is ultimately a tale of obsession with the past and of one man's desire to experience a time forgotten. With romantic and supernatural overtones, complete at 166,000 words and lightly laced with humour, it should appeal to most audiences.

R802 Discovery Miles 8 020 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

A mystery, lightly laced with humor, and with paranormal overtones that are misinterpreted until the end. The story is contemporary but would fall loosely into the fantasy genre due to the revelations of later chapters. After a miserable year following the loss of his wife, Tom Kerr has just started running again, hoping it will prove a better way of dealing with stress than drinking. This will bring him into contact with a living myth, who could be the answer to both his prayers and a fifty-year-old mystery that has just reared its ugly head amidst strange occurrences in the local woods.
