This is a collection of ideas for the people who seek to know and
enjoy more of God's Word. As referenced in the Book of Acts Chapter
17, Verse 11: "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in
that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and
searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." This
enormous compliment and honor is paid to the Bereans - and I use
this reference to associate with all those people who place the
Word of God above tradition, above rumor, above fiction, above
social acceptance, above entertainment, above religious propaganda,
above political correctness, and above cultural differences. 2
Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.
Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall
search for me with all your heart. 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people,
which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and
seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear
from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
In 1969, five players from a powerhouse high school soccer
program enroll at Bainbridge University, where football is
everything and soccer has only just become a varsity sport. Worse
yet, the coach has never played the game, the upcoming schedule is
a killer, and the Bainbridge team has only won two games in the
past year. Life is about to become very challenging for these
freshman used to being winners.
Andrew Paxton, a captain of the former high school soccer team,
is now sharing a dorm room with his best friend and star teammate,
Brian Barrett. But trouble soon brews when Barrett clashes with the
coach and members of the football team. Paxton, ever loyal to his
best friend, has his own share of problems. He has silently and
agonizingly carried a torch since the seventh grade for Barrett's
ex-girlfriend, who followed him to Bainbridge hoping to win him
back.
Meanwhile, the soccer team faces one hurdle after another when
Barrett threatens to quit, the team loses one of its stars to
injury, and the coach's inexperience becomes painfully obvious.
During a time when soccer was still in its infancy in the United
States, the players must try to turn around a losing college
program and, in the process, come to grips with the realities of
friendship and love.
How do you define good mental health? This controversial,
counterintuitive, and altogether fascinating book argues that
"psychological normality" is neither a desirable nor an acceptable
standard. Normality Does Not Equal Mental Health: The Need to Look
Elsewhere for Standards of Good Psychological Health is a
groundbreaking work, the first book-length study to question the
equation of psychological normality and mental health. Its author,
Dr. Steven James Bartlett, musters compelling evidence and careful
analysis to challenge the paradigm accepted by mental health
theorists and practitioners, a paradigm that is not only wrong, but
can be damaging to those to whom it is applied-and to society as a
whole. In this bold, multidisciplinary work, Bartlett critiques the
presumed standard of normality that permeates contemporary
consciousness. Showing that the current concept of mental illness
is fundamentally unacceptable because it is scientifically
unfounded and the result of flawed thinking, he argues that
adherence to the gold standard of psychological normality leads to
nothing less than cultural impoverishment. Multiple descriptive
examples of ways in which the equation of psychological normality
with good mental health leads us astray An account of the principal
contributors who have urged that psychological normality is not a
desirable or justifiable standard of good mental health A
historical account of the main psychological factors that have led
to our current failing model and practice of higher education
Special Agent Patrick Bowers never met a killer he couldn't catch.

of Bowers's instincts and training to stop the man who calls
himself the Illusionist. Thrilling, chilling, and impossible to put
down, The Pawn will hold you in its iron grip until the very last
page. "A captivating look at the fine line between good and evil.
The Pawn is not to be missed."--Ann Tatlock, author of Every Secret
Thing "Steven James combines 21st-century high-tech law enforcement
techniques with 18th-century Sherlockian deduction to craft an
exciting, suspense-filled story."--Dr. Kim Rossmo, Center for
Geospatial Intelligence and Investigation, Texas State University

most innovative storytellers. Since developing his skill as a
performer at Eat Tennessee State University (MA in Storytelling),
he has spoken more than 1,500 times throughout North America,
Europe, and Asia. Now harnessing his ability to build suspense with
his vivid imagination and evocative writing, Steven is launching
his first series of high-octane thrillers, the Bowers Files. Steven
lives with his wife and daughters in the hills of Tennessee.

This book focuses on developing an understanding of the complex
interplay of forces acting on individual universities and higher
education systems to enable leaders and practitioners to take
purposeful and strategic action. It explores the challenging
landscape of higher education and the pressures that are reshaping
the university as a societal institution, describing the complex
interplay of technological, sociological, political and economic
forces driving change. The issues analysed are global in scope,
reflecting the diversity of contexts, but also the common nature of
the challenges facing institutions individually and collectively.
The analysis draws on the lessons learnt and evidence from over
fifty organisational case studies undertaken by the author over the
past decade, exploring organisational change in higher education
institutions in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and the
United Kingdom, and on his engagement as president of the ACODE
organisation with colleagues responsible for learning technological
change in Australasia. The book helps institutions respond to
technological change purposefully, in ways that build upon a clear
understanding of the complex nature of the existing institution,
its students and the organisational context.
