Taking off the wraps once more, but this time the action moves to
China for round three of the Mummy adventure. For 2,000 years the
ruthless Chinese Dragon Emperor (Jet Li) and his vast army of
warriors have been frozen in time, cast in clay, waiting for their
moment to rise again. When young archaeologist Alex O'Connell (Luke
Ford) is duped into bringing the ancient warlord back to life, he
soon realises he has to call in the only people he knows with
experience and knowledge of how to battle the undead - his parents,
father Rick (Brendan Fraser) and mother Evelyn (Maria Bello). As
the emperor attempts to re-unite with his massed warriors and
finally fulfil his dream of world domination, Alex and his family,
along with mystical, high-kicking sorceress Zi Juan (Michelle Yeoh)
and a rival cast of undead, have to pull out all the stops to keep
the evil tyrant from achieving his ends.
Collection of two action features based on the G.I. Joe toy
figures. In 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' (2009), when unsavoury
arms dealer Destro (Christopher Eccleston), who heads evil
organisation Cobra, becomes too powerful, specialised military unit
GI Joe (Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity) must try to
dispense of him and his organisation using its latest high-tech
weapons and gadgetry. The cast also includes Channing Tatum, Sienna
Miller, Dennis Quaid, Marlon Wayans and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with
Jonathan Pryce making an appearance as the US President. In 'G.I.
Joe: Retaliation' (2013), the G.I. Joe team must fight to wrestle
back control of the world from the Commander (Faran Tahir) and
Cobra spy Zartan (Arnold Vosloo), last seen disguised as the
President of the United States. Outnumbered and outgunned, the Joes
must execute a plan to expose the truth and stop Cobra from taking
over the world before it is too late.
Michael Copon takes up the reins as the young warrior Mathayus in
this prequel to the 2002 film 'The Scorpion King'. Warned against
joining the Emperor of Akkad's elite fighting warriors, the Black
Scorpions, by his father Ashur (Peter Butler), Mathayus (Copon)
ignores his advice and sets off to enlist. Falling foul of the evil
Sargon (Randy Couture), commander of the army, Mathayus is rescued
by his father and pardoned by the Emperor Hammurabi (Az Abrahams)
in exchange for joining the Black Scorpions. When Sargon then
murders Ashur, Mathayus bides his time, honing his skills in the
Black Scorpions until a time that he can exact vengeance. After
finally graduating as a master swordsman, Mathayus meets Sargon,
now Emperor after murdering Hammurabi, who convinces him to swear
his allegiance. But after Sargon imprisons and kills Mathayus's
brother on a trumped up charge, Mathayus discovers that Sargon can
only be killed using a magical sword that has to be retrieved from
the underworld. With his childhood friend (and love-interest) Layla
(Karen Shenaz David) and new accomplice Aristophanes (Simon
Quarterman) along for the ride, Mathayus sets off on his quest.
