Collective view prediction is to judge the opinions of an active web user based on unknown elements by referring to the collective mind of the whole community. Content-based recommendation and collaborative filtering are two mainstream collective view prediction techniques. They generate predictions by analyzing the text features of the target object or the similarity of users' past behaviors. Still, these techniques are vulnerable to the artificially-injected noise data, because they are not able to judge the reliability and credibility of the information sources. Trust-based Collective View Prediction describes new approaches for tackling this problem by utilizing users' trust relationships from the perspectives of fundamental theory, trust-based collective view prediction algorithms and real case studies. The book consists of two main parts - a theoretical foundation and an algorithmic study. The first part will review several basic concepts and methods related to collective view prediction, such as state-of-the-art recommender systems, sentimental analysis, collective view, trust management, the Relationship of Collective View and Trustworthy, and trust in collective view prediction. In the second part, the authors present their models and algorithms based on a quantitative analysis of more than 300 thousand users' data from popular product-reviewing websites. They also introduce two new trust-based prediction algorithms, one collaborative algorithm based on the second-order Markov random walk model, and one Bayesian fitting model for combining multiple predictors. The discussed concepts, developed algorithms, empirical results, evaluation methodologies and the robust analysis framework described in Trust-based Collective View Prediction will not only provide valuable insights and findings to related research communities and peers, but also showcase the great potential to encourage industries and business partners to integrate these techniques into new applications.

Ananta Kumar Giri, Su-chen Wu
R3,727 Discovery Miles 37 270 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The book presents aspects of cross-currents of theorizing of self, culture and society in the contemporary Taiwan. Social theorizing has been addressed critically, reflectively and creatively by the philosophical, religious, psychological and literary traditions of one of the world’s great civilizations. Theorizing is a dynamic movement of self, culture, society and the world as it is related to our actions, reflections, meditations to understand the world more meaningfully and holistically as well as to transform it. But much of social theorizing in the modern world is primarily Euro-American and despite the so-called globalization of knowledge, this condition of one-sided Euro-American valorization of knowledge and neglect of others continues unabated. There is very little attention to theorizing about the human condition emerging from other parts of the world such as Taiwan and its global implication.  This book transforms this condition by mapping the field of theorizing in a wider spectrum of philosophy, psychology, religions, social sciences and humanities in contemporary Taiwan.

Archival Resources of Republican China in North America (Hardcover): Chengzhi Wang, Su Chen Archival Resources of Republican China in North America (Hardcover)
Chengzhi Wang, Su Chen
R4,351 Discovery Miles 43 510 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

North America maintains the largest collection of archival materials relating to the Chinese Republican era (1911-1949) outside of China. Most of the archival materials are also unique, and the collections contain special materials supplementing historical records in China and Taiwan. In many cases, North America's holdings represent the best and only public access to the tumultuous Republican government and society of the first half of the twentieth century. An essential guide for researchers and students of Republican China, this volume, presented in both English and Chinese, covers personal papers, correspondences, memoirs, diaries, photographs, moving images, and other materials held at academic and research institutions across the United States and Canada. It includes concise descriptions of the people, organizations, and events connected to each entry and notes when certain collections are closely related and when materials are digitized for online access. The book corrects common errors associated with the library records of many archives and updates or completes information on the objects of these records. More than a straightforward itemization, this book adds significant depth to any research on the history and global import of China's modern development.

The Chinese economy is growing at an unprecedented speed, and one of the emerging trends is angel investment. It is an area with tremendous potential for growth. Compared with the more mature markets in Western countries, however, angel investing in China is still at an early stage, due to a lack of incentives and insufficient policy support.By delving into existing literature on China's angel investment and conducting interviews with leading angel investors for China and abroad, Prof. Liu Manhong and Dr Wang Jiani - both scholars on and practitioners in the angel investment market - try to provide readers with a detailed picture of China's angel market: What is going on in the market? How should the government formulate relevant polices? And, perhaps more pertinently, what should investors know if they have invested in or are going to enter this market? This book will be very useful for scholars and researchers on China's angel market, as well as those 'angels' who would like to tap its full potential.

The River's Song is a moving, lyrical novel which deftly weaves together the themes of love, South-East Asian music and culture, and the social and political consequences of urban modernisation. Ping, the daughter of a renowned folk musician in Singapore's Chinatown's, loves Weng, the voice of the people, but family circumstances drive them apart. While Ping goes to university in America, Weng is sent to prison for his part in local protests. Many years later, Ping returns to a country transformed by prosperity. Gone are the boatmen and hawkers who once lived along the river. In their place rise luminous glass and steel towers proclaiming the power of the city state. Can Ping face her former lover and reveal the secret that has separated them for over thirty years?

A Monsoon Feast comprises seven short stories by renowned writers from Kerala (India) and Singapore that provide deep insights on the various concerns and ways of life of both communities. A unique literary collaboration, A Monsoon Feast intimately connects the reader to the heart of two similar and yet different cultures. Across the seas, the winds blow between two lands, whispering back and forth what is seen, heard, tasted, smelt, felt in each place: the green trees, the tropical heat, the lush rain, the peoples of enterprise and culture, the aromas of different flavours and more. A Monsoon Feast is the point at which these winds intermingle, their conversation celebrating the best of what Singapore and Kerala have to offer.
