Originally published in 1922 this book has been revised since its
first publication-which placed emphasis on fractional
distillation-to include distillation on a large scale as carried
out in the manufacture of important products. Distillation
Principles and Processes covers the research of scientists in
fields including: Acetone and n-Butyl Alcohol, Alcohol, Petroleum,
Coal Tar, Glycerine and Essential Oils.

sich konstant siedende Gemische. Die Trennung zweier Fliissigkeiten
kann, selbst Wenn ihre Siede 0 punkte 20-30 auseinander liegen,
infolge der Bildung eines Ge misches mit: Minimum- oder seltener
mit Maximum-Siedepunkt unmog lich werden, wie es z. B. bei
Athyl-Alkohol und Wasser, oder Benzol und Isobutyl-Alkohol der Fall
ist. Die Annahme, daB die Schwierigkeit der Trennung der
Bestandteile eines Gemisches mit wachsender Siede punktsdifferenz
der Bestandteile abnehme, trifft in Wirklichkeit nur unter der
Voraussetzung zu, daB chemisch ahnliche Korper zu trennen sind. In
allen anderen Fallen muB man die Beziehungen, die zwischen den
Siedepunkten bzw. Dampfdrucken von Stoffgemischen einerseits und
ihrer Zusammensetzung andererseits bestehen, in Betracht ziehen,
und solange nichts iiber die Form der Kurve bekannt ist, die die
eine oder die andere dieser Beziehungen darstellt, ist es unmoglich
zu sagen, ob die Trennung leicht, oder auch nur, ob sie iiberhaupt
moglich ist. Die Formdieser Kurven hangt weitgehend von dem Grade
der chemischen Verwandtschaft der Bestandteile ab, und es ist
neuerdings in einer beschrankten Zahl von Fallen moglich, aus der
chemischen Konstitution der Stoffe auf den Grad der Abweichung der
'Kurven von der Normalform zu schlieBen und damit das Verhalten
einer Mischung bei der Destillation vorauszusagen."
