Sam's Reason to Dance is based on true-to-life events in the lives of the fictitious characters of Lydia, Sam, JoAnn, Cal, Murphy, and others. These have weathered the seasons of love and tests of faith in their own lives. The story's setting is near the base of the picturesque Superstition Mountains and the cities of Mesa and Apache Junction in southern Arizona. Aside from many of the individuals still being active senior citizens, each one has his/her own story to tell. Each one interacts with the others through the commonality of dancing and/or being involved in the arena of horsemanship or friendship. As a writer, it is Katie's task to listen to the stories being told and blend the events. In doing so, the reader may respond to the moments of reflection, tenderness, and humor as experienced by the individuals. It is hoped that in a similar manner, readers interject themselves into the stories being told, recalling comparable events in his/her own life. This is a Christian story of love and relationships and a must-read for adult seniors.
A Time for Reason 'n Rhyme, as an anthology of both prose and poetry, spans many years in time as do the age of those contributors who have penned them. The collection is divided into sections, which are preceded by the words, A Time For....Family, Friends, Dancin', Living Life, Soul Searching, This 'n That, and Givin' and Receivin'. Prose, functioning as reasons, describes the purpose of the section and/or the circumstances under which the poet set the theme for his/her topic. There is a gamut of emotions found in this collection-some happy, some sad, some tender, some humorous. Yet, there may just be that golden nugget of wisdom uncovered with which a response is modified in that season of time one may meet in the adventure called life. Now it is time to take that journey.
