The book is divided into three parts: Flower, Anther, and Ovule. The principal aim of this volume (along with the other 3 volumes in the series) is to summarize the classical and current concepts about flower generative organs, their structure and development, and about seed formation processes. The book contains ample material that can be employed in theoretical generalizations, in analyzing the distribution of features (or their uniqueness) and evolutionary transformations of structures. This offers vast possibilities for revising the existing and developing new classifications and concepts.
This book, first published in 1981, offers an analysis of the ways in which one strategic situation in Cold War politics impinged on another, and the interplay of historical forces and trends shaping national policies and the world pattern of power. Bringing together a wealth of factual and analytical material about the alliance systems built around the two superpowers, it examines the areas that seem most dangerous to the peace of the world, particularly in the Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

Reimagining the Culture of Leadership for Student Success A revision to the practical and popular guide, this book asks the crucial question within today's environment, "What's a student-ready college?" Higher education leaders are responsible for preparing their institutions to serve the students they admit in the best way possible. By asking ourselves how we can transform our institutions into student-ready colleges to create a new culture of leadership that is responsive to current challenges and focuses on understanding and utilizing student assets and social capital to achieve shared goals for student success. Becoming a Student-Ready College shows you how. Conversations in higher education tend to focus on defining college readiness for students. Too often, we forget to ask the question from the other side, and we miss important opportunities to develop institutions in ways that can help students thrive. Higher education leaders and educators can better serve today's college students through responsive and redesigned practices and policies. This updated edition features revisions and new material that speak to the social realities of today's incoming students and cover the latest strategies and techniques for connecting with learners to foster equity and success. Leverage existing resources to the benefit of students and deliver the right support at the right time to achieve equity in student outcomes and build on students' assets Design eco-systemic partnerships and support programs that nurture the relationship between the student and the institution Strengthen institutional capacity-building for achieving defined student-ready goals Build shared governance to promote agency and to foster change and collaboration Becoming a Student-Ready College explores leaders' shared responsibilities in advancing student success and provides practical recommendations for educators at all levels.

First published in 2006. Who and what are the 'indigenous people'? The question has become highly contentious in India today, where eighty million peoples belonging to the state category of 'scheduled tribes' are attempting to gain international recognition as indigenous people as a part of struggle for recognition and rights in land and resources. This volume interrogates the politics surrounding the category of peoples in India known as 'tribals' or 'adivasis' and more recently 'indigenous peoples'.
Geometry of Construction has long been acknowledged as the most concise and instructive guide to the technical geometry of the construction industry, and a vital resource for students in architecture, carpentry, stonemasonry and engineering. Beginning with the very basics of technical drawing, it provides a series of increasingly complex exercises to clearly explain all that the reader needs to know about geometry. Each topic is covered with a detailed diagram and carefully written instructions, enabling the student to progress from basics such as the circle and construction of scales, to some of the most complex challenges including the entasis of a column, an ionic volute, the hemispherical dome and the setting out of barrel vaulting. The authors, T. B. Nichols and N. P. Keep, both worked extensively in the construction industry before moving into teaching, so they were ideally suited to produce this highly practical guide. First published in 1947, a revised edition, incorporating numerous suggestions from students and lecturers on Raking Sections, the Projection of Points, of Lines, and of Planes, the True Lengths of Lines, the Oblique Plane and on Roof Surfaces, was produced in 1954. Last published in 1966, it has been unobtainable since then. It remains one of the most useful books for any student in the construction industry.

Hydrogen in Intermetallics I is the first of two volumes aiming to provide atutorial introduction to the general topic of hydrogen in intermetallic compounds and alloys. In the present volume, a series of chapters, each written by two experts in the field, gives a comprehensive review of thefollowing areas: -preparation of intermetallics and their hydrides on a laboratory and industrial scale; - thermodynamic properties; -crystal and magnetic structure; - electronic properties; - heat of formation models; - magnetism and superconductivity.
These two volumes record the scientific and clinical work presented at the VIIth International and 3rd European joint symposium on purine and pyrimidine metabolism in man held at the Bournemouth International Conference Centre, Bournemouth, UK, from 30th June to 5th July 1991. The series of international meetings at three yearly intervals have previously been held initially in 1973 in Israel, then Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, USA and Japan. The European society for the Study of Purine and Pyrimidine Metabolism in Man (ESSPPM) which has its own executive and some finance first met in Switzerland in 1987, then in Germany in 1989. The steady evolution of the science in this series of meetings is intellectually satisfying; the subsequent clinical progress is emotionally and economically reassuring. As befits the position of purines and pyrimidines at the centre of biochemistry, there has been steady scientific development into molecular genetics and now onto developmental controls and biochemical pharmacology. The complexities of the immune system are being unravelled but an understanding of the human brain largely eludes us. Laboratory based scientists now predominate over those who work as clinical specialists in vii rheumatology, immunology, oncology and paediatrics. However, there continue to be major clinical objectives since large sections are concerned with major causes of death like ATP depletion, cancer and now AIDS; the laboratory work is providing clinical solutions.
