Contributions to this volume detail paleontologic research in
Manonga Valley, and shed important light on the evolutionary
development of eastern Africa. Chapters provide novel insights into
the taxonomy, paleobiology, ecology, and zoogeographic
relationships of African faunas, as well as lay the foundation for
future geological, paleontological, and paleoecological studies in
this important area. The book concludes with a discussion of the
importance of investigations on broader geographical sites,
including the Manonga Valley, for human evolution research. The
text is supported by 143 illustrations.
Terry Harrison's painting style and easy-going humour makes
painting fun and enjoyable. Pick up a brush, pull out one of the

Harrison's highly-successful Ready to Paint books expands on the

All watercolour landscape artists need to know how to paint water,
and in this book Terry Harrison excels in demystifying the painting
process. Here he shares his expert advice and no nonsense tips and
techniques for producing quick, effective paintings of water. There
are two or three-step exercises for painting water in all its
varied moods and situations, including ripples, reflections,
puddles, streams, breaking waves, choppy water, surf, bridges,
riverbeds, boats, and much more. There are then ten step-by-step
demonstrations that can be produced in half an hour: a misty lake,
track with puddles, ford, waterfall, lazy river, stormy sea,
cliffs, fishing from a boat, sunset estuary and fishing boat.
This volume 1 and its companion volume 2 present the results of new
investigations into the geology, paleontology and paleoecology of
the early hominin site of Laetoli in northern Tanzania. The site is
one of the most important paleontological and paleoanthropological
sites in Africa, worldrenowned for the discovery of fossils of the
early hominin Australopithecus afarensis, as well as remarkable
trails of its footprints. The first volume provides new evidence on
the geology, geochronology, ecology, ecomorphology and taphonomy of
the site. The second volume describes newly discovered fossil
hominins from Laetoli, belonging to Australopithecus afarensis and
Paranthropus aethiopicus, and presents detailed information on the
systematics and paleobiology of the diverse associated fauna.
Together, these contributions provide one of the most comprehensive
accounts of a fossil hominin site, and they offer important new
insights into the early stages of human evolution and its context.
Recent years have witnessed exciting and important scientific
breakthroughs in the study of Neanderthals and their place in human
evolution which have transformed our appreciation of this group s
paleobiology and evolution. This volume presents cutting-edge
research by leading scientists re-examining the major debates in
Neanderthal research with the use of innovative state-of-the art
methods and exciting new theoretical approaches.
Topics addressed include the re-evaluation of Neanderthal
anatomy, inferred adaptations and habitual activities,
developmental patterns, phylogenetic relationships, and the
Neanderthal extinction; new methods include computer tomography, 3D
geometric morphometrics, ancient DNA and bioenergetics. The diverse
contributions offer fresh insights and advances in Neanderthal and
modern human origins research.

"Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of all ages distilled
into one word. You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it
nor taste it. However, you can feel it 100x a day. It's a pat on
the back, a smile of encouragement. It's someone to share with, to
celebrate your achievements." - Anonymous
