From "Dummling and the Three Feathers": Once upon a time there
lived a King who had three sons; the two elder were learned and
bright, but the youngest said very little and appeared somewhat
foolish, so he was always known as Dummling. When the King grew old
and feeble, feeling that he was nearing his end, he wished to leave
the crown to one of his three sons, but could not decide to which.
He thereupon settled that they should travel, and that the one who
could obtain the most splendid carpet should ascend the throne when
he died. So that there could be no disagreement as to the way each
one should go, the King conducted them to the courtyard of the
Palace, and there blew three feathers, by turn, into the air,
telling his sons to follow the course that the three feathers took.
Then one of the feathers flew eastwards, another westwards, but the
third went straight up towards the sky, though it only sped a short
distance before falling to earth.
The Grimm brother's famous anthology of fairy tales is here
accompanied by Anderson's beautiful illustrations. Delicate black
and white text drawings and full page colour plates are full of
emotion and charm. About the Illustrator: Anne Anderson
(1874-c.1940) was a Scottish illustrator chiefly noted for her Art
Nouveau children's book illustrations that display fluidity typical
of the movement. Characteristic of her work are decorative and
lightly drawn or painted illustrations of neatly dressed children,
neatly dressed with pear-shaped faces. Anderson's work has been
compared to that of Jessie M. King, a contemporary. About the
Authors: Jacob (1875-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) were
academics who spent years researching and documenting folk tales.
They are arguably best known for their collection Children's and
Household Tales published in 1812, which later became known as
Grimm's Fairy Tales, and contained some of today's most celebrated
fairy stories, such as Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin and Hansel and
Gretel. Many of the earliest children's books, particularly those

illustrations and 8 full-page color plates by Fritz Kredel. This

This collection of Grimms' Fairy Tales features the original
stories by which many popular books, movies, and plays were
inspired. With stories such as Snow White, The Frog Prince, Hansel
and Gretel, and many more, Grimms' Fairy Tales were among the first
collections of stories and have since become some of the most
influential of our time. Unlike the Hollywood adaptations of some
of these most treasured stories, the collected stories of the
Grimms brothers are just that - grim. You won't find gentle
happily-ever-after's--each tale is delightfully twisted and
sprinkled with some sort of wickedness on every page. In this
edition you'll come to explore the world of grouchy old women and
devilishly tricky creatures as you make your way through the ever
enthralling stories that make up the Grimms' Fairy Tales.
Three classic English folk tales from the collection of Joseph
Jacobs, beautifully retold and illustrated. Twelve princesses share
a love of dancing, to their poor father's despair. Will anyone be
able to uncover their secret night-time escapades? Sisters may be
related, but they certainly aren't always alike; Drusilla and
Isidora are like chalk and cheese, and receive very different
enchantments in the story Diamonds and Toads. Snow White and Rose
Red tells of two sisters whose beloved bear turns out to be
something quite different ... TreeTops Greatest Stories offers
children some of the worlds best loved tales in a collection of
timeless classics. Top children's authors and talented illustrators
work together to bring to life our literary heritage for a new
generation, engaging and delighting children. The books are
carefully levelled, making it easy to match every child to the
right book. Each book contains inside cover notes to help children
explore the content, supporting their reading development. Teaching
notes on Oxford Owl offer cross-curricular links and activities to
support guided reading, writing, speaking and listening. This pack
provides 6 copies of the same title.
For the past two centuries these delightful stories, gathered
together and written down by brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, have
entertained and frightened children and adults alike. The lives of
Tom Thumb, Cinderella, Rumplestiltskin and the Frog Prince form
part of our common heritage: they stimulate the imagination and the
heart, and linger at the back of our minds for a lifetime. They are
funny, disturbing, wise and compassionate. They speak of joy and
terror, happiness and revenge, love and violence. Designed to
appeal to the booklover, Macmillan Collector's Library is a series
of beautiful gift editions of much loved classic titles. Macmillan
Collector's Library are books to love and treasure. This edition of
