This book studies young people who are Not in Education,
Employment, or Training (NEET); a prime concern among policymakers.
Moving past common interpretations of NEETs as a homogeneous group,
it asks why some youth become NEET, whereas other do not. The
authors analyse diverse school-to-work patterns of young NEETs in
five typical countries and investigate the role of individual
characteristics, countries’ institutions and policies, and their
complex interplay. Readers will come to understand youth
marginalization as a process that may occur during the transition
from school, vocational college, or university to work. By studying
longitudinal analyses of processes and transitions, readers will
gain the crucial insight that NEETs are not equally vulnerable, and
that most NEETs will find their way back to the labour market.
However, they will also see that in all countries, a group of
long-term NEETs exists. These exceptionally vulnerable young people
are sidelined from society and the labour market. The country cases
and cross-national studies illustrate that policies intended to
help long-term NEETs to find their way in society are very limited.
The book provides useful theoretical and empirical insights for
scholars interested in the school-to-work transition and
marginalized youth. It also provides helpful insights in
vulnerability to policymakers who aim to combat youth
marginalization. The Open Access version of this book, available at

â€On-road’ is a complex term used by young people to describe
street-based subculture and a general way of being. Featuring the
voices of young people, this collection explores how race, class
and gender dynamics shape this aspect of youth culture. With young
people on-road often becoming criminalised due to interlocking
structural inequalities, this book looks beyond concerns about
gangs and presents empirical research from scholars and activists
who work with and study the social lives of young people. It
addresses the concerns of practitioners, policy makers and scholars
by analysing aspects and misinterpretations of the shifting
realities of young people’s urban life.

Boys and young men have been previously overlooked in domestic
violence and abuse policy and practice, particularly in the case of
boys who are criminalized and labelled as gang-involved by the time
they reach their teens. Jade Levell offers radical and important
insights into how boys in this context navigate their journey to
manhood with the constant presence of violence in their lives, in
addition to poverty and racial marginalization. Of equal interest
to academics and front-line practitioners, the book highlights the
narratives of these young men and makes practice recommendations
for supporting these 'hidden victims'.

This atmospheric and stylish mystery set in the Appalachian region
is perfect for fans of Twin Peaks, The X-Files, and Sons of the
Devil. When Beth Wills comes to Silk Hills, a small Appalachian
town that's seen better days since the mines were abandoned, she
expected a bit of culture shock... But not like this! Beth is
someone who has a talent for finding people who don't want to be
found, and when she's called to Silk Hills by a local titan of
industry, she can tell that something's not right. Little does she
know... Silk Hills was once booming, but the only reason people
tend to come through town anymore is to buy Mothman merchandise.
Before long, Beth finds out just how wrong things can get in the
woods, as her search for a missing troubled youth finds her running
afoul of the local drug trade, too-friendly creepers, a very
sinister deer, and psychoactive moth dust.
Through the art of Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, "The Seriousness of
Play" explores the multiple forms, materialities and meaning of
Haida Manga as it playfully mutates through repurposed automobile
parts, large-scale public art projects, mixed media sculptures and
two-dimensional painted and graphic forms. Haida Manga combines
traditional Native Northwest Coast designs and form-lines with
manga (or manhwa) to create a distinctive and dynamic artform for
re-telling oral histories and addressing contemporary issues
surrounding land, cultural memory, ecological destruction and the
politics of belonging, ownership and identity.

In a series of debates with Oliver Cromwell in Civil War England of
1647, the Levellers argued for democracy for the first time in
British history. Evolving from Oliver Cromwell's New Model army in
Parliament's struggle against King Charles I, the Levellers pushed
for the removal of corruption in parliament, universal voting
rights and religious toleration. This came to a head with the
famous debates between the Levellers and Cromwell at St Mary's
church in Putney, London. Renowned human-rights lawyer and author
Geoffrey Robertson argues for the relevance of the Levellers' stand
today, showing how they were the first Western radical democrats.
In a gorgeously illustrated exploration of the art of Michael
Nicoll Yahgulanaas, Mischief Making disproves any notion that play
is frivolous. Deploying mischievous tactics, Yahgulanaas shines a
spotlight on serious topics. As he investigates Indigenous and
other worldviews, the politics of land, cultural heritage, and
global ecology, his distinctive style stretches, twists, and flips
the formlines of classic Haida art to create imagery that resonates
with the graphic vitality of Asian manga. This engaging and
beautiful book delineates the philosophical underpinnings and
evolution of the artist's visual practice, revealing his deep
understanding of the seriousness of play.
