U2's success and significance are due, in large part, to finding
inventive, creative solutions for overcoming obstacles and moving
past conventional boundaries. As it has embraced change and
transformation over and over again, its fans and critics have come
to value and expect this element of U2. These new essays from the
disciplines of organizational communication, music theory, literary
studies, religion, and cultural studies offer perspectives on
several ways U2's dynamic of change has been a constant theme
throughout its career. The eight essays here come from the U2
Conference 2013, which explores the music, work, and influence of
U2, furthering the scholarship on U2.

Winston Churchill famously described the political alliance between
the US and UK as a 'special relationship', but throughout the
cultural history of these two countries there have existed
transatlantic 'special relationships' of another kind - affairs
between British and American citizens who have fallen in love, with
one another but often too with the idea(l) of that other place
across the ocean. From romantic novelist Elinor Glyn in the 1920s
to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle today, this collection examines
some of the history, contemporary manifestations and enduring
appeal of US-UK romance across popular culture. Looking at both
historical and contemporary case-studies, drawn from across film,
television, music, literature, news and politics, this is a timely
intervention into the popular romantic discourse of US-UK
relations, at a critical and transitional moment in the ongoing
viability of the special relationship.
The variety and complexity of its traditions make African American
religion one of the most difficult topics in religious studies to
teach to undergraduates. The sheer scope of the material to be
covered is daunting to instructors, many of whom are not experts in
African American religious traditions, but are called upon to
include material on African American religion in courses on
American Religious History or the History of Christianity. Also,
the unfamiliarity of the subject matter to the vast majority of
students makes it difficult to achieve any depth in the brief time
allotted in the survey courses where it is usually first
encountered. The essays in this volume will supply functional,
innovative ways to teach African American religious traditions in a
variety of settings.
