A powerful and inspiring book from the founders of IDEO, the
award-winning design firm, on unleashing the creativity that lies
within each and every one of us. Too often, companies and
individuals assume that creativity and innovation are the domain of
the 'creative types'. But two of the foremost experts in
innovation, design and creativity on the planet show us that each
and every one of us is creative. In an entertaining and inspiring
narrative that draws on countless stories from their work at IDEO,
and with many of the world's top companies and design firms, David
and Tom Kelley identify the principles and strategies that will
allow us to tap into our creative potential in our work lives, and
in our personal lives, allow us to think outside the box in terms
of how we approach and solve problems. 'Creative Confidence' is a
book that will help each of us be more productive and successful in
our lives and in our careers.
Innovation is the lifeblood of every company - the fuel that keeps
an organisation going in a tough marketplace. But by its very
nature it's hard to plan for, quantify and coach. In The Ten Faces
of Innovation Tom Kelley explains how to do it. Kelley, author of
bestselling The Art of Innovation, reveals the strategies that his
world-famous design firm IDEO uses to foster original thinking and
overcome naysayers who stifle creativity. For Kelley, innovation is
all about individuals and teams. He identifies ten key roles
developed by IDEO that anyone can adopt in order to innovate in
different situations. Ranging from 'the anthropologist' and 'the
hurdler' to 'the experience architect' and 'the cross-pollinator',
they are all illustrated with real corporate examples and will help
you transform the way you work, and show those around you how to do
the same. The result is a brilliant and applicable guide to
fostering creativity and creating a culture of innovation in any
workplace.
In 1948, photographer Tom Kelley took a photograph of an
out-of-work actress, a nude posed against a scarlet background.
That actress was Marilyn Monroe, and a few years later, the photo
became Playboy's first ever centrefold. This volume offers a
complete look at Kelley's visionary colour nude photography of the
1940s-1970s.
IDEO founder and Stanford d.school creator David Kelley and his
brother Tom Kelley, IDEO partner and the author of the bestselling
"The Art of Innovation," have written a powerful and compelling
book on unleashing the creativity that lies within each and every
one of us.

"We've all been there. The pivotal meeting where you push forward a
new idea or proposal you're passionate about. A fast-paced
discussion leads to an upwelling of support that seems about to
reach critical mass. And then, in one disastrous moment, your hopes
are dashed when someone weighs in with those fateful words: '"Let
me just play Devil's Advocate for a minute . . .'
"What's truly astonishing is how much punch is packed into that
simple nine-word phrase. In fact, the Devil's Advocate may be the
biggest innovation killer in America today . . .
"Why should you care? And why do we at IDEO believe this problem is
so important? Because innovation is the lifeblood of all
organizations . . . Today, companies are viewed less for their
current offerings than for their ability to change and adapt and
dream up something new. Whether you sell consumer electronics or
financial services, the frequency with which you must innovate and
replenish your offerings is rapidly increasing.
""The Ten Faces of Innovation is a book about innovation with a
human face. It's about the individuals and teams that fuel
innovation inside great organizations. Because all great movements
are ultimately human-powered, the innovation personas described in
this book each bring its own lever, its own tools, its own skills,
its own point of view. And when someone combines energy and
intelligence with the right lever, they can generate a remarkably
powerful force. Together you can do extraordinary things"
-from "The Ten Faces of Innovation
The author of the bestselling "The Art of Innovation reveals the
strategies IDEO, the world-famous design firm, uses to foster
innovative thinking throughout anorganization and overcome the
naysayers who stifle creativity.
The role of the devil's advocate is nearly universal in business
today. It allows individuals to step outside themselves and raise
questions and concerns that effectively kill new projects and
ideas, while claiming no personal responsibility. Nothing is more
potent in stifling innovation, Kelley claims.
Over the years, IDEO has developed ten roles people can play in an
organization to foster innovation and new ideas while offering an
effective counter to naysayers. Among these approaches are the
A"nthropologist--the person who goes into the field to see how
customers use and respond to products, to come up with new
innovations; the" Cross-pollinator who mixes and matches ideas,
people, and technology to create new ideas that can drive growth;
and the" Hurdler, who instantly looks for ways to overcome the
limits and challenges to any situation.
Filled with engaging stories of how Kraft, Procter and Gamble,
Safeway and the Mayo Clinic have incorporated IDEO's thinking to
transform the customer experience, THE TEN FACES OF INNOVATION is
an extraordinary guide to nurturing and sustaining a culture of
continuous innovation and renewal.
Ex-Staff Sergeant Bojack isn't sure what he wants to do with the
rest of his life, but he's pretty sure that this isn't it.
Surrounded by cornfields and bored commanders and neurotic
supervisors at an Indiana Air Force Base, Bojack is content to mind
his own business. Set in the post Vietnam Air Force of shag rugs
and gas wars, an American Airman is forced to reaffirm his
principles. In the 1970's the Strategic Air Command wasn't about to
admit why they had buried a wrecked B-58 supersonic bomber in a
bean field, but the discovery unleashes a string of violent
incidents in and around Grissom Air Force Base. Trying to find out
who did who, a female military police investigator, a state police
detective, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and a
pair of federal agents with an uncertain pedigree stumble across
one another to solve a decade old murder. Not having killed anybody
in a while, Bojack couldn't have cared less and was resigned to
ride out his second and last hitch in the Air Force until a friend
is murdered and the Security Police consider him a likely suspect.
With the help of a cunning ex stripper, the ex staff sergeant
launches an ambitious con which he hopes will flush out the real
killers. Guardmount is a tale of military women struggling with
their new ERA enhanced role, a military that had been largely
abandoned by the Country they fought to defend, and the values
young men learn in uniform; all during a decade of tremendous
upheaval, uncertainty and change. While Dick Nixon had been reigned
in, Patty Hearst was still on the loose and war veterans returned
home to a County they didn't recognize.
