The handwritten journal of a serial killer in Harford County,
Maryland in 2004. A twisted journey through a tormented mind, as he
writes about his daily activities. But the most horrifying thought
is how ordinary he is. He could have been your neighbor or your
coworker, somebody you stood next to in line at the store, and as
much as you will hate and despise the monster he is, if you're like
me, you'll almost feel sorry as you get a slight glimpse into how
he got that way. Like feeling sorry for a rabid dog. The most hair
raising, disturbing, captivating, horrifying and intriguing 120
pages you will ever read.
1 and 2 Maccabees are presented here, both the King James and Douay
Rheims versions.

Financial Times -- 'An extraordinary, enticing fusion of fiction
and natural history. The artwork alone [...] is stunning.' Kate
Winslet -- 'Breathtakingly beautiful... every young adventurer
should read this book.' The Oldie -- 'The second thrilling voyage
for the Unknown Adventurer.' Are you ready to take part in an
adventure? To face danger at every turn? To venture into unknown
lands? If you are, then Journey to the Last River may be the
perfect adventure book for you. 'I would mention the area's name,
but I can't. All I can say is that this map would lead the two of
us on an expedition into the heart of the unknown, hoping to find
the last river for ourselves. What we discovered deep within the
rainforest was enough to make me remove or change the place names
in this journal - just like the map maker. Soon, you will know and
understand....' Join the Unknown Adventurer again on this thrilling
adventure into the Amazon, which begins with a map discovered in
the Royal Geographical Society showing a river that has been
mysteriously rubbed out. It leads the Unknown Adventurer and his
companion Bibi into a search for this 'last river' that will change
their understanding of nature forever. This book is a thrilling
tale of a voyage into the Amazon rainforest that looks exactly like
a real scrap book inside, with smudged pages, handwritten-looking
text and even die-cut piranha bite marks from a previous scrape.
The gripping story features encounters with caiman and anacondas,
incredible flora and fauna, survival tips and much, much more. The
first title in a new series of spin-off adventures from The Lost
Book of Adventure. Praise for The Lost Book of Adventure: Bear
Grylls -- 'Packed FULL of adventures' The Guardian -- 'A clarion
call to the child explorer [...] a spectacular immersion in the
life of the wild.' Daily Express -- 'Exquisitely illustrated [...]
children will treasure it for years to come.'
Sweeney Todd is a barber who dispatches his victims by pulling a
lever as they sit in his barber chair. His victims fall backward
down a revolving trapdoor into the basement of his shop, generally
causing them to break their necks or skulls. In case they are
alive, Todd goes to the basement and "polishes them off" (slitting
their throats with his straight razor). After Todd has robbed his
dead victims of their goods, Mrs. Lovett, his partner in crime,
assists him in disposing of the bodies by baking their flesh into
meat pies and selling them to the unsuspecting customers of her pie
shop. All the horror stories in this nice collection are written by
unknown authors.
This book is an anonymously written biography of Saint Philomena, a
young consecrated virgin whose remains were discovered in Italy in
1802. The name Philomena means `daughter of light'; this led to the
appreciation of the young girl's bones as an artifact of Christian
Rome. The significance of her life and deeds, plus the various
miracles which were purported to have occurred in proximity to her
bones, such as the multiplication and distribution of her bone dust
to many onlookers, led to calls for her to be sainted. Decades
after the initial discovery, the girl was witnessed in a vision
experienced by a Greek nun, who said she was a holy princess and
daughter of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. The significance of Saint
Philomena became known throughout the Catholic world, and her tomb
and church became local landmarks in provincial Italy. To this day,
the sites associated with her are attractions for Christian
pilgrims and other visitors, curious to know of the significance of
the holy remains.

Within the last decade there has been an increasing awareness that
use of standards deeply notched fracture mechanics test specimens
can result in substantial over-or-under-assessments of the real
fracture toughness associated with shallow surface cracks.
