In light of more recent conversations about religion and its import
as a factor in the global geopolitical and cultural spheres,
augmented by the "contracting" of relationship among people and
nations, Communication and the Global Landscape of Faith highlights
geographical, architectural, and a partial issues as significant
and edifying dimensions of the study of communication and religion.
Insights are gleaned through the prism of the philosophical, built,
performative, political, and intercultural landscapes.
The biceps tendon is one of the most challenging anatomic
structures to completely understand. Its precise role for shoulder
function has yet to be completely defined, and pathologic
conditions exist at both its proximal and distal ends. In recent
years, the biceps labral complex has been recognized as a common
cause of shoulder pain among patients. Accurate diagnosis,
utilizing both physical examination and imaging, is crucial to
decision-making regarding the most effective treatment. Many
controversies exist surrounding the management of biceps pathology
with a myriad of potential solutions to consider. This practical
text breaks down the biceps into succinct, digestible portions with
expert tips and tricks to help manage bicipital problems in a wide
array of patients. Sensibly divided into three thematic sections,
it encompasses all aspects of the biceps tendon, including relevant
anatomy, diagnosis, imaging, and non-operative management
(including rehabilitation and biologic treatments). Surgical
management strategies as they pertain to both proximal and distal
biceps tendon pathologies will be covered, including both
arthroscopic and open tenodesis, transfer, and inlay and onlay
fixation methods. A review of associated complications and how to
avoid them is likewise described in detail, along with
post-surgical rehabilitation techniques to maximize return to play.
Ideal for orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists at
all levels, The Management of Biceps Pathology will be a unique
resource for all clinicians facing challenges treating the active
patient with shoulder and elbow pain.

Children of many generations have been greatly impressed by the
story of Yona in the belly of the whale and imagined the deep
darkness of the "big fish" and the miraculous landing on safe
shore. But the Book of Yona also contains a different story. The
Christian, the Judaic and the Islamic narrative all show: this
prophet must have been a rather stubborn man: He knew how to tell
right from wrong and he was ready to bet not only his own life but
the life and welfare of others on this truth. This chamber opera
explores what such a strong sense of justice could have meant to
his own family and the neighbors in his village. How did it affect
his traveling companions on the boat when he run away from God's
command and headed for Tarshish, the farthest place he could
imagine? What did the people of Jerusalem, whom he warned first as
a messenger of God, make of Yona? How did the people of Nineveh,
who were rescued from destruction by his prophesies, see this man?
While all the above people are mentioned in the traditional
legends, they appear in Yona as individual characters. The story is
narrated from the perspective of Yona's fictitious daughter Shachar
(morning, dawn). The scenes of the opera are all set in Yona's
house. The time is right after the funeral of the prophet, while
his daughter is sitting the seven days of Shiva for her father.

Powerlessness in the most powerful nation on planet Earth is the
state of affairs in America today. America is approaching a
grinding halt and everything is slowing down. "All stop," has been
the command of the ship's captain. We're sitting at a four-way
stop, and even if we haven't come to a full stop the car is slowing
down, and the brakes are being applied. "These are uncertain
times," said President George W. Bush in a press conference in
early 2008. My response is these are not uncertain times-we can be
very certain that to continue on the same course is not the right
answer. America has to move forward instead of taking a left or a
right at this crossroads in its history. There are no easy answers,
but there are answers, or at the very least, clear indicators of
the right direction for America in the twenty-first century. That
direction is straight ahead. America must move forward, but it
currently lacks the power to do so. Through both quantitative and
qualitative means, I provide readers of this book with simple and
straightforward answers to the complexities that have become a
twenty-first century America as we explore the Inert America
condition.
Originally prepared as a report for the National Park Service in
1988, Griffin's work places the human occupation of the Everglades
within the context of South Florida's unique natural environmental
systems. He documents, for the first time, the little known but
relatively extensive precolumbian occupation of the interior
portion of the region and surveys the material culture of the
Glades area. He also provides an account of the evolution of the
region's climate and landscape and a history of previous
archaeological research in the area and fuses ecological and
material evidence into a discussion of the sequence and
distribution of cultures, social organization, and lifeways of the
Everglades inhabitants. Milanich and Miller have transformed
Griffin's report into an accessible, comprehensive overview of
Everglades archaeology for specialists and the general public.
Management plans have been removed, maps redrawn, and updates
added. The result is a synthesis of the archaeology of a region
that is taking center stage as various state and federal agencies
cooperate to restore the health of this important ecosystem, one of
the nation's most renowned natural areas and one that has been
designated a World Heritage Site and a Wetland of International
Importance. This book will make a key work in Florida archaeology
more readily available as a springboard for future research and
will also, at last, allow John Griffin's contribution to south
Florida archaeology to be more widely appreciated.
