Children with skin diseases maypresent to family physicians, pediatricians or dermatologists. In book we have tried to provide a concise and under standable source of information about common skin disorders which will be useful to any physician encountering children with cutaneous signsand symptoms. We have concentrated on 26 common skin diseases which account for morethan 90% ofallskin-related doctor visits by children and adolescents, regardless of the orientation of the physician. The format of each chapter is uniform. The clinical description is accompanied by several typical photographs. The differential diagnostic approach withbriefcriteriais pre sentedin a table. Themajoremphasis is on the treatment; wehave tried to combine our long years of experience in pediatricdermatology withthe in ternationalliteratureand especially more recent evidence-based studies. We have tried to present a rangeof therapeutic possibilities, but also give firm recommendations. There have already been two successful German editions of this book. We hopethat this first English editionalsofinds a receptive readership. We are committed to the concept that childhood skin diseases are best treated whenall involved physicians have onlyone goal - the best possible carefor all children. "Turf" battles between various specialties overaspects of care only harm our patients and in the end our own self-respect. The back ground of the three editors reflects this theme; there are two dermatolo gists, one German (DA) and one American (WB), and a pediatrician (He)."
