In a world invaded by demons, one girl will face the ultimate test when
she is forced to enter into an ancient, deadly competition for the
chance to save her mother's soul… before she loses her forever. From
the New York Times bestselling author of Song of Silver, Flame Like
Night comes the beginning of a dark and opulent fantasy duology,
perfect for fans of Throne of Glass.
Nine years ago, the war between the Kingdom of Night and the Kingdom of
Rivers tore Àn’yīng’s family apart, leaving her mother barely alive and
a baby sister to fend for. Now the mortal realm is falling into eternal
night, and mó—beautiful, ravenous demons—roam the land, feasting on the
flesh of humans and drinking their souls.
Àn’yīng is no longer a helpless child, though. Armed with her crescent
blades and trained in the ancient art of practitioning, she has decided
to enter the Immortality Trials, which are open to any mortal who can
survive the journey to the immortal realm. Those who complete the
Trials are granted a pill of eternal life—the one thing Àn’yīng knows
can heal her dying mother. But to attain the prize, she must survive
the competition.
Death is common in the Trials. Yet oddly, Àn’yīng finds that someone is
helping her stay alive. A rival contestant. Powerful and handsome,
Yù’chén is as secretive about his past as he is about his motives for
protecting Àn’yīng.
The longer she survives the Trials, the clearer it becomes that all is
not right in the immortal realm. To save her mother and herself,
Àn’yīng will need to figure out whether she can truly trust the
stranger she’s falling for or if he’s the most dangerous player of all
. . . for herself and for all the realms.

In a fallen kingdom, one girl carries the key to discovering the secrets of her nation's past – and unleashing the demons that sleep at its heart. An epic new fantasy duology inspired by Chinese mythology.
Once, Lan had a different name. Now, she goes by the one the Elantian colonizers gave her. She spends her days scavenging for remnants of the past. For anything that might help her understand the strange mark burned into her arm by her mother, in her last act before she died.
No one can see the mysterious mark – until the night Zen appears at the teahouse and saves her life.
Zen is a practitioner, one of the fabled magicians of the Last Kingdom, whose abilities were rumoured to be drawn from the demons they communed with. Magic believed to be long lost. Magic to be hidden at all costs.
Both Lan and Zen have secrets buried deep within. Fate has connected them, but their destiny remains unwritten. Both hold the power to liberate their land. And both hold the power to destroy the world.
A ferocious tale of romance and fate, SONG OF SILVER, FLAME LIKE NIGHT is a gift to those seeking adventure with a mythological twist.
In the current scenario of Forensic Science and Criminal
Investigation, experts are facing many challenges due to huge
amounts of data, tiny pieces of evidence in the chaotic and complex
environment, traditional laboratory structures and sometimes
insufficient knowledge which may lead to failure of investigation
or miscarriage of justice. Artificial Intelligence and imaging
technologies are the promising solutions to address these
challenges with case based reasoning for errorless, objective and
reproducible results in various fields of forensics. This book will
not only provide a platform for researchers to present state of the
art technologies, but will be a reference for law enforcement to
use for crime investigation along with researchers in the field .
This book presents the modeling and transmission theory of RF OAM
communications. The book features the UCA-based RF point-to-point
OAM communication system, the UCA-based RF point-to-multipoint OAM
wireless backhaul network, the HCCL structure for long-distance OAM
transmissions, and the UCA-based joint OAM RadCom scheme. For the
UCA-based RF point-to-point OAM communication system, a 2-D
ESPRIT-based distance and AoA estimation method is first
introduced, followed by an OAM reception scheme including the
hybrid mechanical and electronic beam steering with the estimated
AoA and the amplitude detection with the estimated distance. The
proposed RF OAM communication scheme is extended to the RF OAM-MIMO
system equipped with UCCAs. For the UCA-based RF
point-to-multipoint OAM wireless backhaul network, an OAM-based
multi-user distance and AoA estimation method is introduced,
followed by a multi-user OAM preprocessing scheme. At last, the
proposed methods are extended to the downlink multi-user OAM-MIMO
wireless backhaul system equipped with UCCAs. Moreover, a novel
HCCL structure is introduced to realize long-distance OAM
transmission. For the UCA-based joint OAM RadCom scheme, an
OAM-based 3-D super-resolution position estimation and rotation
velocity detection method is introduced, and then the PCRB of the
OAM-based estimates and the transmission rate of the integrated
system are derived and analyzed. To achieve the best performance
trade-off, the transmitted integrated OAM beams is optimized by
means of an exhaustive search method. Finally, this book discusses
future research directions to inspire further investigation in the
field of RF OAM communications from different perspectives.
For years, language teachers have increasingly been using
technologies of all kinds, from computers to smartphones, to help
their students learn. Current trends in TELTL (technology-enhanced
language teaching and learning), such as artificial intelligence,
virtual reality, augmented reality, gamification, and social
networking, appear to represent major shifts in the digital
language learning landscape. However, various applications of
technology to mediate language learning may be informed by
reflecting not only on the present but perhaps more importantly on
relevant insights from past research and practice. Emerging
Concepts in Technology-Enhanced Language Teaching and Learning
explores the recent development of the new technologies for
language teaching and learning to gain insights into and synergy of
the theories, pedagogies, technological design, and evaluation of
TELTL environments for comprehending the trends and strategies of
the new digital era as well as investigate the possibility of
future TELTL research direction. The book includes trends shaped by
contemporary issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Covering topics
such as digital education tools, L2 learnings, and sentiment
analysis, this book serves as an essential resource for
researchers, language teachers, educational software developers,
administrators, IT consultants, technologists, professors,
pre-service teachers, academicians, and students.

This book presents comprehensive, thorough and updated analyses of
key cognitive individual difference factors (e.g., age,
intelligence, language aptitude, working memory, metacognition,
learning strategies, and anxiety) as they relate to the
acquisition, processing, assessment, and pedagogy of second or
foreign languages. Critical reviews and in-depth research syntheses
of these pivotal cognitive learner factors are put into historical
and broader contexts, drawing upon the multiple authors' extensive
research experience, penetrating insights and unique perspectives
spanning applied linguistics, teacher training, educational
psychology, and cognitive science. The carefully crafted chapters
provide essential course readings and valuable references for
seasoned researchers and aspiring postgraduate students in the
broad fields of instructed second language acquisition, foreign
language training, teacher education, language pedagogy,
educational psychology, and cognitive development.
