Too often we see reality in black and white, overlooking nuances that require the discernment of tensions between the brokenness of our world and our desires for reconciliation. Yet the gap between wounding words and actions and the hope for acts of reconciliation can lead to even more violence and despair. The authors of this volume explore these tensions and the valences of 'brokenness' and 'reconciliation' in Paul Tillich's thought. Together, they contribute to a richer understanding of the thought of the German American theologian and philosopher, his commitments, and the constructive interpretations his work can induce for us today. Think of the ruptures and efforts of dialogue among divided Christian churches, or the commitment of the social worker; reflect on how love as agape, or the courage to be, can be at the heart of this constructive work; or consider the reconciliation processes of peoples torn apart by violence, to mention a few contributions from this volume. Der Band enthalt eine kritische Edition des Manuskripts von Tillichs Dogmatik-Vorlesung im Wintersemester 1925/26 bis zum Wintersemester 1926/27 an der TH Dresden. Was er unter dem traditionellen Begriff der Dogmatik vortragt, kann als philosophische Theologie bezeichnet werden. Ihre Mitte hat sie im Christus als dem "Durchbruch der vollkommenen Offenbarung". Auf die Prolegomena folgen die Lehre von der Schoepfung ("theologische Seinsdeutung") sowie die Lehre von der Erloesung ("theologische Geschichtsdeutung"). Die Lehre von der Vollendung ("theologische Sinndeutung") ist nicht mehr ausgefuhrt. Die Edition ist eine vollstandige Neubearbeitung des von Werner Schussler 1986 herausgegebenen Textes.

Paul Tillichs Theologie der Kultur bietet nicht nur fur die gegenwartige Theologie, sondern auch fur die kulturtheoretischen Debatten wichtige Anstoesse und weiterfuhrende Aspekte, da er sowohl einen differenzierten Begriff der Religion ausgearbeitet, als auch die methodischen Probleme der Bestimmung eines Begriffs der Religion reflektiert hat. Zudem hat Tillich in seine Thematisierung der Religion im Horizont der Kultur ein Transformationsmodell der Religion in ihrer geschichtlichen Entwicklung aufgenommen. Diese Aspekte machen die Kulturtheologie Tillichs zu einem gewichtigen Gesprachspartner in der Debatte um den religioesen und kulturellen Pluralismus der Gegenwart. Der vorliegende Band diskutiert Tillichs Kulturtheologie erstmals in einer umfassenden werk- und problemgeschichtlichen Perspektive.
