Exceptional Music Pedagogy for Children with Exceptionalities:
International Perspectives offers readers in music education, music
therapy, and music in special education communities a new,
important, and globally-informed resource for effective music
pedagogies in theory and practice. Volume editors Deborah Blair and
Kimberly McCord have assembled here a collection of
never-before-published chapters written by a diverse and
international set of teachers and researchers in music education
for children with exceptionalities. Each working outward from their
own national perspectives, the chapter authors explore the
histories of legislative initiatives, discuss the implementation of
both mandates and teacher led creative strategies, and provide a
vast array of pedagogical suggestions and scenarios that support
teachers and communities who work with special learners. Featuring
rich descriptions of music teaching and learning approaches in
concert with scenarios of how practices play out in the classrooms
across the globe, the book gives readers the opportunity to learn
from other global settings and, on this basis, to reflect and
re-envision the ways that teaching and learning may be fostered in
their own music classrooms or research settings. Chapters include
U. S. and international special education law, social justice and
disability in music, using the Orff Approach in inclusive and
self-contained classes, assistive technology and use of innovative
technologies to engage children and adults in active music making.
In addition, the book offers novice and veteran teachers and
teacher educators alike a sophisticated understanding of specific
disabilities and strategies for music classroom teaching and
learning. Throughout, chapter authors provide theoretical frames
with applications for practice that readers will be able to connect
to their own educational contexts. With chapters from such diverse
music education communities as Finland, Taiwan, Ireland, and
Germany, the book adds important new perspectives. The authors and
editors represent a wide range of pedagogical approaches for
learners in a variety of contexts, and this book is an important,
expansive collection of practical expertise, an invaluable resource
to the special music education community across the globe.

Tony Blair learnt the precepts of governing the hard way: by leading a
country for over ten years. In that time he came to understand that
there are certain key characteristics of successful government that he
wished he had known about when he started.
Now he has written the manual on political leadership that he would
have wanted when he first took office in 1997, sharing the insights he
has gained from his personal experience and from observing other world
leaders at first hand, both while he was prime minister and since,
through his Institute’s work with political leaders and governments
globally.
Written in short, pithy chapters, packed with examples drawn from all
forms of political systems from around the world, the book answers the
key questions: How should a leader organise the centre of government
and their office? How should they prioritise and develop the right plan
and hire the right personnel, cope with unforeseen events and crises,
and balance short-term wins with longterm structural change? What’s the
best way to deal with an obstructive or inert bureaucracy, to attract
investment, to reform healthcare or education, and to ensure security
for the citizen? And how should governments harness the massive
opportunities of the 21st-century technological revolution?
This is a masterclass on leadership in general, and political
leadership in particular, from a master statesman.

David Blair directs this British drama, loosely inspired by John
Steinbeck's novel 'Of Mice and Men'. Set in Nottingham, the film
revolves around the relationship between the thuggish Danny
(Stephen Graham) and Joseph (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), a giant of
a man with a mental age of seven. When Danny finds himself in debt
to a local crime boss, he feels he is left with no choice but to
manipulate Joseph into participating in a series of underground
cage fights from which Danny can profit. Salvation appears to call
out to both men when they begin relationships with Lisa (Emma
Stansfield) and Isabel (Maxine Peake), but will they be able to
escape the bloody world of gambling and fighting Danny has plunged
them into?

Andrey Tarkovsky, the genius of modern Russian cinema--hailed by
Ingmar Bergman as "the most important director of our time"--died
an exile in Paris in December 1986. In Sculpting in Time, he has
left his artistic testament, a remarkable revelation of both his
life and work. Since Ivan's Childhood won the Golden Lion at the
Venice Film Festival in 1962, the visionary quality and totally
original and haunting imagery of Tarkovsky's films have captivated
serious movie audiences all over the world, who see in his work a
continuation of the great literary traditions of nineteenth-century
Russia. Many critics have tried to interpret his intensely personal
vision, but he himself always remained inaccessible.
In Sculpting in Time, Tarkovsky sets down his thoughts and his
memories, revealing for the first time the original inspirations
for his extraordinary films--Ivan's Childhood, Andrey Rublyov,
Solaris, The Mirror, Stalker, Nostalgia, and The Sacrifice. He
discusses their history and his methods of work, he explores the
many problems of visual creativity, and he sets forth the deeply
autobiographical content of part of his oeuvre--most fascinatingly
in The Mirror and Nostalgia. The closing chapter on The Sacrifice,
dictated in the last weeks of Tarkovsky's life, makes the book
essential reading for those who already know or who are just
discovering his magnificent work.
We've worked with teachers to develop versions of our core
textbooks that feature reduced content and language level,
providing greater support and enabling students of all abilities to
progress. Now available for the seven most popular options, these
foundation versions help make the GCSE content more accessible and
are designed to be easy-to-use alongside the core textbooks in a
mixed ability classroom and are also ideal for home learning. How
have we made them more accessible? We've reduced the level of the
language to remove difficult words or phrases when possible. All
the titles have been reviewed for reading age by a language expert.
Easy-to-use alongside the core GCSE textbooks with content covered
on each spread matched so you can use both versions together in a
mixed ability classroom. More of the difficult words that students
need to know are explained in key terms boxes, with definitions
repeated through the books to reinforce learning. We've made our
explanations more accessible for students targeting a grade 5 or
below. Where possible, we've replaced paragraphs of text with
easy-to-understand flow diagrams, mind maps or charts so there is
significantly less text on the pages for students to tackle. The
level of demand in the activities has been reduced and some of the
harder ones removed. Exam tips have been re-focused to offer advice
so that students of all abilities can secure as many marks as
possible. The 'Preparing for your exam' chapters have been
thoroughly rewritten with answers and commentary for students
working towards a grade 5. New artworks have been added to make
explanations more visual.
