Dramatherapy with Children, Young People and Schools is the first
book to specifically evaluate the unique value of dramatherapy in
the educational environment. A variety of highly experienced
dramatherapists, educational psychologists and childhood experts
discuss the benefits to the children and young people, and also in
relation to the involvement of teachers, the multi-disciplinary
team and families. This professional book offers a panoramic view
to explain how through dramatherapy children and young people
develop their communication skills, sociability and their actual
desire to learn. Detailed case studies demonstrate individual
successes in youngsters experiencing a range of emotional
difficulties and psychological needs. These studies include:
conquering a fear of maths; violent behaviour transformed into
educational achievement; safe expression of feelings for a sexually
abused child; and where children are diagnosed with mental health
disorders such as ADHD and ODD, where the benefits of dramatherapy
with children and families are carefully described and evaluated,
suggesting that this therapeutic discipline can achieve positive
outcomes. The practical advice and inspirational results included
here promote a future direction of integration and collaboration of
school staff, multi-disciplinary teams and families. Education and
equality are high on the agenda, and the function of dramatherapy
is not just as a treatment, but as an economically viable and
valuable preventive therapy.
The first two authors of this coaching workbook are themselves
parents who have been on a journey of "swings and roundabouts" -
experienced the highs and lows of having children. Having
difficulties knowing how to parent in many situations, which was
not made easier by the conflicting advice in the media, made them
unsure of their own parenting skills. This was one of the reasons
that they entered into the field of parent-coaching. They were
trained coaches who wanted to use their coaching skills and
experience as parents to help both themselves and other parents get
the understanding and trust in themselves to be the parents they
dream of being. As an educational and child psychologist, Irvine
was able to contribute an evidence and psychological base to the
project.Parents often feel alone and the authors have found that
running courses for them created a space where they could share
experiences with each other as well as experiment with different
ways of parenting. It is their intention to give back some of the
awareness they gained in this comprehensive and invaluable
self-coaching book.

Local Education Authorities are now obliged to put in place arrangements to try to settle disagreements over the provision for children with special educational needs. This practical book aims to help those charged with making these arrangements and those directly involved in the conciliation and mediation process. While there is no 'right way' to resolve disputes of this kind, the ultimate goal must be to reach a positive conclusion as quickly as possible for the benefit of the child involved. In this book, the authors look at a range of approaches and issues to achieve this such as: *how to plan disagreement resolution *skills and techniques for mediation *tools for training and self-assessment *the SEN tribunal *ethical and legal issues The book includes contributions from leading practitioners in special educational needs, law, mediation and conciliation. It is the ideal handbook for all those working in the area of special education needs, both in schools and for LEAs and other agencies. eBook available with sample pages: 0203166213
Smoothness Priors Analysis of Time Series addresses some of the problems of modeling stationary and nonstationary time series primarily from a Bayesian stochastic regression "smoothness priors" state space point of view. Prior distributions on model coefficients are parametrized by hyperparameters. Maximizing the likelihood of a small number of hyperparameters permits the robust modeling of a time series with relatively complex structure and a very large number of implicitly inferred parameters. The critical statistical ideas in smoothness priors are the likelihood of the Bayesian model and the use of likelihood as a measure of the goodness of fit of the model. The emphasis is on a general state space approach in which the recursive conditional distributions for prediction, filtering, and smoothing are realized using a variety of nonstandard methods including numerical integration, a Gaussian mixture distribution-two filter smoothing formula, and a Monte Carlo "particle-path tracing" method in which the distributions are approximated by many realizations. The methods are applicable for modeling time series with complex structures.

The most enigmatic frontispiece in baroque literature is analyzed
in terms of design, iconographic tradition, and in the context of
the genre. This analysis produces philological evidence that the
original drawing on which the engraving is based stems from
Grimmelshausen himself. The frontispiece is decoded as a
poetological symbol designed, in each and every detail, to justify
the -Simplicissimus- and its complexity, not least by presenting it
as a satirical novel that opens the book of the world in such a way
that human failings can be recognized for what they are."
This volume provides a chronological survey of the complex
development of the mental illness of J.M.R. Lenz as it manifested
itself between autumn 1777 and early 1778. Much greater accuracy is
achieved in connection with the well-known events in question
thanks to the 150 documents quoted, a mine of information for all
those interested in the course taken by Lenz' illness. The volume
opens with a chronology outlining the sequence of the relevant
events. An annex contains picture material, an index of places and
a name index with biographical data.
The book is a study of Johann Friedrich Oberlin's report "Herr
L..." (1778), an account of Storm and Stress poet Jakob M. R. Lenz'
sojourn in Steintal/Alsace. The account has a dual relevance for
literary historians. It is a) the most important testimony we have
for Lenz' enigmatically disastrous biography, and b) it served as
Georg BA1/4chner's main source when he was writing his (ultimately
unfinished) novella "Lenz" in 1835. The material and the studies
assembled in this volume cover a spectrum ranging from text
critique and editing to historical-critical text interpretation.
The findings they come up with have a bearing on the source
material itself and are of interest in terms of literary history,
the history of mentalitA(c), and deep psychology.
In Wissenschaft und Praxis ist eine zunehmende Orientierung an

starkere Berucksichtigung der einzelnen Nachfrager und eine
