Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. Recent scientific breakthroughs--demonstrating that mind body
strategies can actually "switch off" or "switch on" gene activity
associated with health and disease--have triggered a mind body
revolution in the medical world.
More than fifty million Americans suffer today from chronic pain. Dr. Scott Brady was one of them.Doctors told him he would live with his back pain for the rest of his life. Having exhausted all options offered by conventional medicine, Dr. Brady overcame his pain using a mind-body-spirit approach'in an incredible four weeks. In 2000, he founded the Brady Institute, where more than 80 percent of his patients have achieved 80-100 percent pain relief, without surgery or drugs. In Pain Free For Life, Dr. Brady sets a clear course for readers to diagnose what is really causing their pain 'autonomic overload syndrome, which is brought on by the repression of harmful negative emotions with profiles of pain-prone personalities and an innovative spiritual health inventory. He reveals the techniques behind his remarkably effective recovery plan, including the practice of depth journaling and prescriptions to boost the power of personal belief. Dr. Brady's approach has helped his patients overcome such conditions as chronic back pain, nagging neck and shoulder pain, migraine or tension headaches, muscle pain, irritable bowel syndrome, insomnia, and many other chronic pain-associated ailments. The principles and techniques described in Pain Free For Life will be illustrated by in-depth case studies. His proven 6-week program produces results in as little as thirty minutes a day.
This book examines the reboot phenomenon from its historical emergence as a concept within the superhero comic book medium, specifically DC Comics, to its conceptual adaptation across media platforms into film and beyond in the new millennium.  It adopts an interdisciplinary perspective that holistically cojoins etymology, history, narrative and discourse as a way to develop a hermeneutics of rebooting. Throughout the book, the author develops a critical morphology to demonstrate the mechanics of the reboot phenomenon as a narrative technique and, also, by 'looking beyond the text itself' to consider economics, reception and, via paratexts, the interstices between.  In doing this the monograph examines the complex dialectical struggle occurring between production and consumption that provides an insight into the way culture industries engage with strategies of regeneration as a principle of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century. of franchising in the twenty-first century.Â
"The Scandinavian Invasion offers an important and timely interrogation of Nordic Noir. Putting the concept under a microscope in a series of diverse chapters, it reveals that Nordic Noir is still teeming with vigorous life as it has emerged, proliferated and travelled across borders, becoming in the process a cultural phenomenon that has had significant implications for global television in the new millennium." (Sue Turnbull, University of Wollongong) You might think you know what Nordic Noir is. Brutal crimes. Harsh landscapes. Brilliant but socially dysfunctional protagonists. Stylish knitwear. Yet, as a generic category and cultural phenomenon, Nordic Noir has always been far more complex. The story of its success owes as much to adaptation and evolution as it does to geographical migration or cosmopolitan curiosity. But how did this happen? What was it about the genre that struck such a chord with international audiences and readers? How did it build on previous trends and influences? And how has the category changed in order to survive in a cutthroat commercial landscape? Has it become less "Nordic "? Less "noir "? Has its proverbial moment in the sun passed? Featuring twelve original chapters and an editorial introduction, The Scandinavian Invasion brings together leading media and literature scholars from the UK, Denmark and Australia to critically examine how the phenomenon took shape and what we can learn from it. By exploring the cultural, aesthetic and industrial forces that propelled Nordic Noir across borders, the book provides a kaleidoscopic look at a disruptive cultural phenomenon in transition. Nordic Noir is dead. Long live Nordic Noir!

Today's convergent media industries readily produce stories that span multiple media, telling the tales of superheroes across comics, film and television, inviting audiences to participate in the popular universes across cinema, novels, the Web, and more. This transmedia phenomenon may be a common strategy in Hollywood's blockbuster fiction factory, tied up with digital marketing and fictional world-building, but transmediality is so much more than global movie franchises. Different cultures around the world are now making new and often far less commercial uses of transmediality, applying this phenomenon to the needs and structures of a nation and re-thinking it in the form of cultural, political and heritage projects. This book offers an exploration of these national and cultural systems of transmediality around the world, showing how national cultures - including politics, people, heritage, traditions, leisure and so on - are informing transmediality in different countries. The book spans four continents and twelve countries, looking across the UK, Spain, Portugal, France, Estonia, USA, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Japan, India, and Russia.

Remakes are pervasive in today's popular culture, whether they take the form of reboots, "re-imaginings," or overly familiar sequels. Television remakes have proven popular with producers and networks interested in building on the nostalgic capital of past successes (or giving a second chance to underused properties). Some TV remakes have been critical and commercial hits, and others haven't made it past the pilot stage; all have provided valuable material ripe for academic analysis. In Remake Television: Reboot, Re-use, Recycle, edited by Carlen Lavigne, contributors from a variety of backgrounds offer multicultural, multidisciplinary perspectives on remake themes in popular television series, from classic cult favorites such as The Avengers (1961-69) and The X-Files (1993-2002) to current hits like Doctor Who (2005-present) and The Walking Dead (2010-present). Chapters examine what constitutes a remake, and what series changes might tell us about changing historical and cultural contexts-or about the medium of television itself.
Is it the latest in spy technology, a meteor, a UFO, or a new star? No one-not even government leaders, military commanders, astronomers, or other scientists-can provide any real answers regarding the mysterious light that has suddenly appeared in the eastern sky. When a diverse group of scholars and scientists meets in Israel to investigate the phenomenon, they are soon caught in a web of political and spiritual intrigue, terrorist bombings, and sniper attacks. As uncertainty about the phenomenon causes worldwide panic, the pressure is turned up to find a scientific answer to the mystery of the light. But the team is determined to convince the world of its findings-that the light is the return of the Star of Bethlehem, which signals Christ's Second Coming.
A historic international space mission explodes with crimes and crises after scientists, engaged in a moon-mining expedition, receive information from outer space about how to reverse the aging process. Corporate espionage, murders, political assassinations, and finally, the threat of a new Cold War follow a revolutionary message on the human genome from mysterious and possibly demonic beings from another dimension. U.S. Representative Scott Andrews begins to doubt the motives of these "benign" messengers and suspects that they harbor designs of biblical proportions against the entire earth. This political/sci-fi/spiritual thriller pulls the reader onto a roller-coaster plot, with twists and turns through cutting-edge space and energy technology, genetic manipulation, back-room political machinations, and international intrigue on the highest levels.
For the increasingly confused patient, this empowering, informative, and easy-to-understand guide to anticipating, preventing, and overcoming common errors in medical tests, diagnoses, and procedures "confronts the tough, practical issues which most popular medical guides omit or gloss over" (Dr. Gerald Lazar, Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School).
Although John Templeton (1912-2008) simply considered himself a
bargain hunter, those in the know on Wall Street considered him one
of the greatest stock pickers of the twentieth century. Anyone
prudent enough to have invested $10,000 in his Templeton Growth
Fund when it was first established in 1954 would today have over $7
million to their name if they left those funds alone. Few mutual
funds can match that kind of spectacular and consistent
performance. How did he do it? What kind of principles guided his
decisions through bull and bear markets? What was the secret to his
success? Fortunately, generosity was one of Templeton's defining
characteristics, and he freely shared his investing wisdom with the
world in "The Templeton Touch. "This edition, which has been
greatly expanded and revised from the original 1983 publication,
gives the reader an inside look at the mindset that made Templeton
a Wall Street legend. His global focus, his relentless curiosity,
his future-mindedness, his personal touch with clients, his
willingness to take reasonable risks, his reliance on deep research
and fundamental analysis-- everything that set him apart from the
crowd is covered here in great detail by authorized biographer
William Proctor. This updated edition also contains a new section
comprised of twenty-two interviews with those who knew and worked
with Templeton, conducted by Scott Phillips. Among those
interviewed are business luminaries like Jim Rogers, Julian
Robertson, Steve Forbes, Prem Watsa, Mason Hawkins, and Michael
Price."The Templeton Touch "should be required reading for any
investor, from the absolute novice to the most experienced. Not
only could Templeton's practical advice help guide investors
through tricky market conditions, but the many insights into his
character and his philosophies could help anyone live a more
successful life.
