As Quiet as a Mouse is the story of the author's struggles with bipolar disorder and the events from her childhood that contributed to the illness. Her psychiatrist encouraged her to write journals about her childhood and was amazed, after reading them, that she had not committed suicide by the time she was fourteen-years-old.
