The world is moving away from demand-driven electricity markets supplied by centralized generation and distribution of fossil-fuel-produced electricity. Increasing reliance on weather-dependent renewable sources will require a shift toward a supply-driven paradigm, while beneficial electrification, including widespread adoption of electric vehicles, heat pumps, and batteries will offer considerable but widely distributed demand flexibility that can be used to compensate for supply variability. The open-source Power Trading Agent Competition (Power TAC) platform simulates a decentralized future, modeling the high complexity of future retail electricity markets.  This book describes a variety of approaches to profitable trading in realistic wholesale and retail electricity markets. It presents actionable insights from extensive exploration of policies and business models for retail electricity markets gained from a decade of Power TAC tournaments, and from research inspired by the Power TAC experience. What do arms control and disarmament mean for the political order of the world, and how does nuclear proliferation relate to them? What are the prospects for global order in a world of unequal states? These questions provide the general point of departure for this book. Specifically. the book briefly recounts the development of global nuclear non-proliferation policies, and the test ban issue, followed by a detailed examination of the developments between the Third and Fourth NPT Review Conferences. The organization and work of the Fourth NPT Review Conference are outlined, and the issues as they appeared in the general debate are surveyed. The work of the various committees charged with producing a consensus in the most contested areas is reviewed, and the final outcome is discussed. The significance of the PTBT Amendment Conference is assessed, beginning with the controversies which existed at the outset. Both the Meeting in May-June 1990 and the Conference itself in January 1991 are reviewed. The consequences of the 1991 Persian Gulf War for the non-proliferation regime are considered, as are the responses of the international community to the proliferation-relevant aspects of this dramatic international event. The final chapter of the book addresses several questions. What are the prospects for extending the NPT in 1995? Are there serious prospects for progress in further curtailment of nuclear testing? If so, how does this affect the future of the NPT? Finally, this book attempts to draw conclusions concerning the prospects for establishing reliable, tenable and enforceable world-wide rules for the control and reduction of weapons of mass destruction.

Das Buch zeigt, wie mit "kultursensitivem Vorgehen" in einem Unternehmen gleichzeitig wirksame Sachloesungen entwickelt und deren Akzeptanz durch die Mitarbeiter unterstutzt werden koennen. Veranderungen von und in Unternehmen, z.B. als Reaktion auf veranderte Marktanforderungen oder Unternehmenszusammenschlusse, betreffen heute alle Branchen und Firmen jeder Groesse. Die erfolgreiche Umsetzung dieser Veranderungen ist haufig entscheidend fur das "UEberleben" einer Organisation. Messbare Erfolge zahlreicher "innovativer" Managementprogramme hierzu waren in den letzten Jahrzehnten jedoch eher begrenzt. Wesentliche Grunde hierfur waren die fehlende Passung der propagierten Methoden und Konzepte, die Vernachlassigung der kulturellen Besonderheiten einer Organisation und eine einseitige Expertenorientierung. Solche Vorgehensweisen scheiterten haufig an Widerstanden der Mitarbeiter, hohem nachtraglichen AEnderungsaufwand oder einer mangelhaften Zusammenarbeit uber Bereichsgrenzen hinweg. Die erfolgreiche Bewaltigung dieser Probleme erfordert Konzepte, die bei Veranderungsprozessen eine strategische Passung und eine funktionsbereichsubergreifende Abstimmung sicherstellen. In der 2. Auflage wurden Konzepte, Methoden und Instrumenten hierzu erganzt und aktualisiert, aber vor allem auch neue Unternehmensbeispiele aufgenommen, die u. a. belegen, dass eine solche Vorgehensweise nicht nur in produzierenden Unternehmen, sondern in Organisationen jeglicher Art erfolgreich ist.
