Heute sind es die Geschaftsprozesse in denen das Potential liegt, das es gilt auszureizen, um im Wettbewerb zu bestehen. Doch Geschaftsprozesse werden von Menschen gepragt und die lassen sich bekanntlich nicht wie Maschinen umprogrammieren. Selbst Michael Hammer, einer der Mitbegrunder des Business Process Reengineering schatzt, dass 70% der Projekte in diesem Bereich scheitern. Verschiedene Studien bescheinigen ebenfalls hohe Misserfolgsraten. Die Optimierung von Geschaftsprozessen (GPO, GPM, BPR, ...) eine der grossten aktuellen Herausforderungen der Wirtschaft stellt demnach immer noch eine sehr anspruchsvolle und risikobehaftete Veranderung dar. Daraus ergibt sich die Notwendigkeit eines geplanten und gesteuerten Managements von Veranderungsprozessen kurz: eines Veranderungsmanagements. Die Forderung nach Ganzheitlichkeit bedeutet fur Veranderungsmanagement nicht etwa, dass Menschen auch eine Rolle spielen, sondern dass Menschen die entscheidende Rolle die Hauptrolle in diesem Stuck spielen.
