Visages de Nuit (Hardcover): Wendy Paton Visages de Nuit (Hardcover)
Wendy Paton; Text written by Karen Sinsheimer, Simon Van Booy, Xavier Canonne
R1,589 R1,266 Discovery Miles 12 660 Save R323 (20%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

American photographer Wendy Paton allows herself to disappear in order to let her subjects emerge from the night. In "Visages de Nuit" ("Faces Of Night"), Paton's eye is that of the celebrant as well as a voyeur, and in graphic compositions of black and white that mesmerize us, she offers personal and intimate glimpses of our human, ineffable presence. Her nocturnal portraits are both intimate and familiar, compelling and mysterious. Paton's work has been exhibited in gallery and museum venues internationally, and is in private and public collections in the United States and Europe.

Rouge Lointain - Andre Soupart (English, French, Hardcover): Xavier Canonne, Pierre Loze Rouge Lointain - Andre Soupart (English, French, Hardcover)
Xavier Canonne, Pierre Loze
R1,031 Discovery Miles 10 310 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Rouge Lointain is first and foremost a book of photographs that is in line with the resolutely contemporary trend of preserving traces of places and activities that are in danger of disappearing. Through the images of its superb machinery that has now disappeared and its deserted architecture, it is the memory of an Italian-style theatre that lives on today. Through them it is also the work of those who worked there in the shadows and without whom the show could not have existed as we imagine. Fascinated by the beauty of its frames, the dilapidated materials, the magic of these mechanisms made of ropes, pulleys, capstans and narrow footbridges on three antique masts, Andre Soupart invites us to wander on the grill, under the stage and backstage and to discover a universe unknown to the spectators. Text in English and French.

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) moved from place to place from quite early on in his life, never staying in one spot for very long. In the Borinage distract of Belgium, he decided to devote himself to art. The photographer Karin Borghouts followed in Vincent's footsteps, from his Dutch birthplace in Zundert to Auvers-sur-Oise in France where he took his own life. She has also reconstructed 25 of his still lifes and photographed them. Text in English, French and Dutch.
