**AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW** 'Full of depth. . . wonderful writing.' SARAH HALL 'Dazzlingly good. . . crackling with playfulness and intelligence.' DANIELLE McLAUGHLIN 'Precise, surreal and emotionally devastating' LUCY CALDWELL 'How do you know this is all real and happening? How can you be sure you haven't already died in the earthquake and are just living in the afterlife?' In her highly anticipated English-language debut, Yan Ge explores isolation in nine iridescent, witty and wondrous tales. Both contemporary and ancient, real and surreal, the stories in Elsewhere range from China to Dublin to London and Stockholm. From a group of writers lounging on the edge of a disaster zone to a mandarin ostracised from his old court trying to avoid assassination, and from a woman who inexplicably loses her voice to a couple who meet all too fleetingly at a cinema in Dublin, these are strange and beguiling stories of dispossession, longing and the diasporic experience. 'Glorious' MIA GALLAGHER 'A gripping, stunning work, worldly and otherworldly.' MADELEINE THIEN 'Equal parts shimmering wit and startling emotional depth.' JEREMY TIAN 'One of the most surprising writers I've read in recent years. . . fantastic.' MATT BELL

Emergency Hospitals For Covid-19: Construction And Operation Manual (Hardcover): Zhi Yan Emergency Hospitals For Covid-19: Construction And Operation Manual (Hardcover)
Zhi Yan; Translated by Yan Ge
R1,073 Discovery Miles 10 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei, saw great numbers of patients overwhelming the admission capacity of designated infectious diseases hospitals, which in turn led to insufficient medical supplies fulfilling treatment needs. Hence, Zall Foundation proposed the construction of COVID-19 Emergency Hospitals to effectively respond to the surging number of COVID-19 cases. This involved the conversion of existing hospitals that have insufficient, or do not have admission capacities for infectious diseases patients, into emergency hospitals that solely focus on receiving suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases. From January 30, 2020, Zall Foundation, along with professional medical institutions, reconstructed seven existing professional medical institutions into COVID-19 Emergency Hospitals in less than 10 days. In total, 4,583 wards were provided after renovation, where 2,833 confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients were cured. The COVID-19 Emergency Hospitals have played an important role in China's epidemic prevention and control by efficiently easing the problems of insufficient ward beds and inadequate admission capacities of infectious diseases hospitals.Based on the experience of construction and operation of the emergency hospitals which are designed in strict adherence to relevant medical standards and regulations, this manual has been compiled by the Zall Foundation. It aims to provide useful reference to the reconstruction of existing hospitals and practice of expanding medical resources for all other regions around the world, to effectively contribute to pandemic control. The manual has been translated into more than 20 languages.

Fangcang Shelter Hospitals For Covid-19: Construction And Operation Manual (Hardcover): Zhi Yan Fangcang Shelter Hospitals For Covid-19: Construction And Operation Manual (Hardcover)
Zhi Yan; Translated by Yan Ge
R1,073 Discovery Miles 10 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A novel public health concept, the Fangcang Shelter Hospital was first proposed by Professor Wang Chen, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, in Wuhan, China, in February 2020. While responding to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, medical staff faced the pressing situation of limited medical supplies, which led Professor Wang Chen to the suggestion of converting large-scale public venues such as exhibition centers and indoor stadiums into shelter hospitals to receive large number of patients, as this involved minimum time and monetary costs. The five essential functions of Fangcang Shelter Hospitals (isolation, triage, provision of basic medical care, frequent monitoring and rapid referral, and essential living and social engagement) enable shelter hospitals to receive patients with mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19, and have the greatest impact on isolating the source of infection and expanding the area's health-care capacity. Two of the first three Fangcang Shelter Hospitals set up in Wuhan were redeveloped by Zall Group Property from existing buildings, while Zall Foundation was responsible for the provision of essential medical supplies and logistical support to facilitate the running of these shelter hospitals. In total, the two shelter hospitals have been instrumental in diagnosing, treating and curing 3663 patients. Under the medical expertise and guidance of Professor Wang Chen, as well as inputs from Zall Foundation's crews who contributed to the design, renovation and operation of these shelter hospitals, this manual encompasses knowledge and experience distilled from the running of these Fangcang Shelter Hospitals. Covering five important aspects, namely the proposal, design, renovation, operation, and logistical support for shelter hospitals, this booklet aims to be a useful reference for other epidemic prevention and control efforts in regions around the world. The manual has been translated into more than 20 languages.

The Ultimate Chinese Martial Art - The Science of the Weaving Stance Bagua 64 Forms and the Wellness Applications has three well integrated parts. Part One describes the cultural, historical and scientific background of the mysterious inner style martial art - Bagua Palm - which used to be taught in a small circle of the Royal families in China. Part Two gives a brief and yet detailed instructions on the techniques and step by step exercises of Bagua Palms with illustrations, including the example of the famous Weaving Stance Bagua 64 Forms. Part Three summarizes the wellness applications of the Bagua Palms as an inner style Chinese martial art.The aim of this book is to help all people on this planet to have a better understanding about wellness and the most effective way to achieve it. The book will thus ultimately make its way to the short list of books which truly leave their marks on the progress of human civilization. The less than sophisticated style of writing makes this book an easy and helpful reading for people from all walks of life. This book is not just about Chinese martial art. It is also about the link between Chinese culture and martial art. With practical instructions on the actual exercise, this book will benefit not just practitioners and trainers in Chinese martial art but effectively all people who read it. This book is not only going to be the martial art book of the year, but the martial art book of the 21st century. This is the first martial art book written by martial art practitioners who have thorough understanding of both physics and actual fighting, with a solid background in Chinese culture. All the three authors of the book have over 40 years of extensive experience each in Chinese martial art. In contrast to conventional Chinese martial art scripts, this book is written by three Chinese authors in plain and vivid English, which is both filled with true understanding of the unique part of Chinese culture and tuned to the cognitive habits of the westerners.
