Because of his international prominence, Professor Khan has been
able to gather an enviable list of experts in the field to
contribute their experience with airway management in a multitude
of clinical settings. The critical appraisal of the airway authored
by the editor, Professor Khan, sets the stage for the important
preoperative tests that may alert the clinician of the potential
for a difficult airway so that appropriate plans can be made. The
formidable "guest list" of authors spans the world and encompasses
clinicians from Malaysia, the United States, Pakistan, India,
Denmark, Singapore, Germany, Canada and Iran. What is equally
remarkable is the list of topics discussed in the textbook and the
varied clinical settings in which airway management is likely to
pose particular and unique challenges: pediatrics; patients with
cervical spine injury and those with traumatic brain injury;
ambulatory surgery; patients with obstructive sleep apnea and
obstetric patients. The book also addresses the latest in
technological advances that can aid the clinician in diagnosing and
managing the difficult airway, such as ultrasonography and also
describes surgical approaches to managing the difficult airway,
such as cricothyrotomy. Finally, underscoring the truly
international appeal of the textbook and acknowledging the
potential technological limitations of the developing world, a
chapter is dedicated to the use of indigenous devices in managing
the difficult airway.
This book explores the post-9/11 relations between the US and
Pakistan. The growing divergence between Washington and Islamabad
has taken an already uneasy alliance to a point of estrangement.
Yet, a complete breakup is not an option. The underlying cause of
the tension, within the partnership the two had entered on 13
September 2001, has never been fully understood. What is rarely
discussed is how Pakistan's decision to ally itself with the US
pushed the country into a war with itself; the cost of Pakistan's
tight roping between alignment with the US and old links with the
Afghan Taliban; and its long-term implications for the region and
global security. This book elucidates implications for Afghanistan
in the so-called war on terror while revealing US and Pakistan's
foreign policy initiatives. The author explores all this through
little known facts and through the players involved in this cloak
and dagger game. The book tells the story behind the headlines: how
equivocal is ISI's break with the Afghan Taliban fighting the
coalition forces in Afghanistan; the shootout in Lahore involving a
CIA agent; and the killing of Osama bin Laden.
The war in Afghanistan has raged on longer than any war in U.S.
history, and far from suppressing the insurgency being waged by
radical Islamic militants, it has led to stronger alli-ances among
al Qaeda, the Taliban, and a host of once-autonomous militant
groups and has inspired a flood of new recruits. In addition to
reclaiming control of substantial territory in Afghanistan, the
militants have now taken the fight deep within
Pakistan--threatening to totally destabilize that nuclear-armed
state--and are launching attacks on the U.S. homeland. Why has the
insurgency been so irrepressible? Is this a war that can be won?
Can we expect a wave of attacks within the United States more
sophisticated than the attempted bombing in Times Square?
Nothing can be understood about the prospects for the war and
the threat to the U.S. homeland without understanding how Pakistan
has become the epicenter of the insurgency and why the rise of
militant groups there has escalated out of control despite major
offensives by the Pakistani military and an intensive secret U.S.
Predator drone war against them. Based on extensive reporting
inside Pakistan's dangerous lawless regions and exclusive
interviews with militant leaders as well as high-level military and
intelligence sources, Zahid Hussain, one of the most respected
reporters working out of Pakistan, chronicles how and why the
Islamic extremist groups based in Pakistan's remote tribal
territories have greatly increased their power since the start of
the war and unleashed a reign of terror on U.S. forces in
Afghanistan and on both the military and civilian population within
Pakistan.
He is the first to reveal how a loose constellation of tribal
groups has now come together to form a distinctive Pakistani
Taliban, working closely with al Qaeda and the Afghani Taliban to
launch increas-ingly sophisticated and deadly attacks on both sides
of the Af-Pak border. He discloses how they draw support and a
steady flood of recruits from deeply entrenched support networks in
major Pakistani cities, and how they have recruited would-be U.S.
attackers, including Faisal Shahzad and Adnan Shukrijumah, accused
of plotting to bomb the New York City subway. He is also the first
to chronicle in detail the still unacknowledged U.S. war carried
out in Pakistan by remote Predator drones, and, reporting from the
scenes of a number of drone missile strikes and interviewing a
number of attempted suicide bombers, he reveals the shocking extent
of anti-Americanism the strikes have stoked in Pakistan, across the
range of the population, due to civilian deaths, driving a new
breed of highly educated, professional, and middle-class Pakistanis
into the militant groups.
His gripping and revelatory account is an urgent wake-up call
about the blowback effects of the U.S. war in Afghanistan and the
drone campaign in Pakistan, about how volatile the situation in the
Af-Pak region has become, and about the deeply troubling
limitations of the current military strategy in ever gaining
decisive ground against the insurgents.
Muslim Ummah is the last Ummah. From different prophecies and
Ahadees it is determined that the age of Muslim Ummah is expected
to be 1500 years. It is the year 1433 Hijri. Thus apparently almost
seventy years are left in the life of the Ummah and as such in the
life of the world. With this Ummah this world will perish and
Qiyama will ensue. These seventy years are going to be very crucial
years. People of the world will see such revolutions and changes
that they would never have thought of. However these changes are
not unusual in the way that they will not come out of nowhere but
there are prophecies and indications about them in all the three
religions. More comprehensive account among them is found in
Ahadees by The Prophet Hazrat Muhammad SAWM. Other source of
comprehensive information is the Book Daniel; Torah: The Old
Testament. Known from the prophecies of Daniel is that the Kingdom
of Sins would be created around 1967 and its downfall will start
after forty five years, which is in 2012. As is explained in the
book the appearance of Hazrat Mehdi the Divine leader to come for
the Muslims will appear 72 months after the appearance of Black
Flags from Khurasan. If we take the appearance of Black Flags from
Khurasan in late 2008 when the resistance of Mujahedeen against the
Coalition forces from the West took a new turn and they proved
their strength. Thus, if this presumed date is close to being
correct then Hazrat Mehdi's predicted appearance will be in year
2014 that is close by. Within years of appearance of Hazrat Mehdi
the first battle of Armageddon will take place that will be
followed by the more lethal and brutal war of Malhamatul-Kubra
within nine months. Secular rule in Turkey would be finished and it
would be annexed to the Muslim Caliphate of Mehdi . This will cause
anger of "Dajjal The Anti-Christ" and he will appear. This event
will approximately be five years after appearance of Mehdi and it
comes out to be around year 2019. This will be followed by
Appearance of Hazrat Essa PBUH (The Jesus). Thus their appearance
seems to be in the year 2020-2021. From all it is concluded that
the battles of Armageddon and Malhamatul-Kubra between Christians
and Muslims would be fought somewhere between 2016-2019. We have
endeavored to bring these facts before people of all the three
religions so that they shall understand the will of Allah SWT. Jews
believed that Armageddon will occur in 1998. That time has passed.
Christians were anxiously awaiting this war in 2001 that has not
occurred. From 2001 till date so much has happened that it has
cleared many doubts. Christians must read this perspective as they
shall know what Armageddon is. They consider that it is a religious
Holy war. Unfortunately it has been misunderstood and rather
misinterpreted. Jews must read this so as to know that their
present stronghold Israel has been termed as Kingdom of sins and
State of Hatred by Hazrat Daniyal (Daniel) who had been Prophet to
Bani-Israel. They must know that the person who is being presented
to them as their redeemer is the "Force of Evil" awaited towards
the end of the time of the world. May be that the innocent and
ignorant among them come to know that they are in the satanic
claws. As writer is a Muslim while he is presenting in his endeavor
impartial and balanced facts, thus it may seem to be a perspective
from Islam. In reality the facts foreseen and perspective expressed
is derived unanimously from revelations of all the three divine
religions, a gust created out of their authentic sources. We make
no claims and leave the decision to our readers. Muslims also must
read this so that they shall know the intense test of Emaan they
are going to face. The era that is nearby would be that of Dajjal
who will have all his concentration upon the Muslim Ummah to
distract them from their Lord and to deprive them of their Emaan.
Ignorance would be death so better know before it's too late.
Pakistan needs a strong base of science and technology for
exploitation of natural resources, boosting agricultural and
industrial production and to solve problems of food, shelter,
energy and health. For this economic development Pakistan requires
to develop a good number of human resources equipped with related
knowledge and an attitude of scientific inquiry through school
education. In education process one of the key elements of learning
is agreed as curriculum. It is the only tool of restructuring
science education to achieve the required objectives. The changing
needs of society and vastness of knowledge stressed that curriculum
development should be a continuous process, ensuring quicker
assimilation of new ideas and concepts. Therefore, the study was
designed to evaluate curriculum development process and preparation
of teaching strategies of science at secondary school level in
Pakistan. The major objectives of study were i) to analyze the
current curriculum of science subjects being taught at secondary
school level in public schools, ii) to examine the historical
development of science curriculum at secondary school level in
Pakistan
Pakistan still has a window of opportunity to act decisively to
prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. According to UNAIDS estimates HIV
prevalence is 0.1 percent among adult population in Pakistan. The
officially reported cases are, however, much lower than the
estimated cases. As in many countries, underreporting is due mainly
to the social stigma attached to the infection, limited
surveillance and voluntary counseling and testing systems, as well
as the lack of knowledge among the general population and health
practitioners. Until recently, Pakistan was classified as a
low-prevalence country with many risk factors that could lead to
the rapid development of an epidemic. The presence of significant
risk factors such as the very low use of condoms among vulnerable
populations including female sex workers (FSW), men who have sex
with men (MSMs), truckers, and Hijras, low use of sterile syringes
among injecting drug users (IDUs), inadequate blood transfusion
screening and high level of professional donors, large numbers of
migrants and refugees may lead to an epidemic situation of HIV/AIDS
in Pakistan.
Quran is the Last Divine book and is full of wisdom. It contains
knowledge from the past and also tells us about the future. It
guides us through different walks of life and trains us through the
corridors of Spiritualism. It gives us the news about the life
hereafter and tells us about the Jannah and the Jahannum. While
reading Quran it would be realized that Quran has objectives
towards what we are being invited and there are motivations in
Quran towards what our attention is drawn again and then. This is
the wisdom of Quran. These references that are scattered throughout
the Quran have been gathered under appropriate headings. Thus it
gives a fair good idea that we are again and again being reminded
or commanded certain things. Moreover having seen the same
reference at different places strengthens our faith about the
importance of the commandment. Towards understanding Quran
remember, it is the eternal guidance for Humanity. This Book is
especially helpful in understanding the Quranic verses. The
perspective is that to understand better it requires an effort to
read different versions of "TAFASEER" and books from different
scholars so as to reach the true spirit of the Commandments.
Besides there are explanations in Ahadees related to the same
subject. These Ahadees when read in conjunction help better
understand the teachings. In these writings all the matter in
support of a topic has been gathered that makes it more appropriate
and understandable and thus prevents individual efforts on part of
each one of us and would facilitate the state of Emaan to be
created through this gust of Deen. This book is valuable for new
Muslims as this will make available for them handy information from
different sources in one writing. Insha'Allah if they completely
read this several times they will have a fair good idea what Allah
want us to be like and what the shape of Emaan is to be. For our
Non-Muslims brethren this book is of paramount importance as this
will give them fair good and first hand information about Islam in
the pattern that would be easy for them to assimilate . The
enthusiasm about Quran, the last Divine book is growing. To read
this book they will get the perspective of a common practicing
Muslim towards the teachings of Quran. This would be their guidance
towards making the just decision.
Practicing Islam without having learnt from Authentic Islamic
Scholars cause malpractices (Biddaat) in the Deen. It is very
important to know the basic spirit of the commandments and the
teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAWM so as to practice religion
in its true perspective. The most disgusting outcome is the
stubborn attitude of certain followers leading to the formation of
different sects that have no place in religion. Prophet SAWM said
that there would be 73 sects among my Ummah. Among these there
would be only one that will be going to Jannah. In this book very
selective topics have been touched. This effort has taken into
account certain neglected practices among Muslims. Thus rightly, an
effort to reform the malpractices in religion. World is fast
nearing the "End" thus there is a section in these articles that
tell us about the time that is forth coming. This work is valuable
for New as well Old Muslims as this will give them an insight into
Islamic teachings. This book is equally valuable for the
Non-Muslims who will like to know something about the Islamic way
of living. This will help them better understand the Divine
religion and make the right decision.
Common Cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium L.) is an emerging aggressive
& invasive weed in crop fields in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)
Province of Pakistan. Among the crops, maize has been severely
affected by X. strumarium in the region. In order to evaluate the
competitive ability of X. strumarium in maize, field experiments
were conducted at Agricultural Research Farm, KP Agricultural
University Peshawar, Pakistan during 2006 and 2007 using a
Randomized Complete Block Design with split plot arrangement,
replicated three times. The main plots comprised of four varying
maize densities: 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 plants per square meter,
whereas seven contrasting densities of X. strumarium viz., 0, 2, 4,
6, 8, 10 and 12 plants per square meter were allotted to the
subplots. During both the years, the grain yield of maize was
highest in control plots (maize monoculture) at density of 7.5
plants per sq m. The density of X. strumarium at 8-12 plants per sq
m reduced maize yield by 40 and 43% in 2006 and 2007, respectively
indicating that X. strumarium is a strong competitor in maize.
However, in both the experiments, the maize yield losses were
rather comparable (24-26%) at all crop densities.
