This book presents a number of aspects to be considered in the
development of disassembly automation, including the mechanical
system, vision system and intelligent planner. The implementation
of cognitive robotics increases the flexibility and degree of
autonomy of the disassembly system. Disassembly, as a step in the
treatment of end-of-life products, can allow the recovery of
embodied value left within disposed products, as well as the
appropriate separation of potentially-hazardous components. In the
end-of-life treatment industry, disassembly has largely been
limited to manual labor, which is expensive in developed countries.
Automation is one possible solution for economic feasibility. The
target audience primarily comprises researchers and experts in the
field, but the book may also be beneficial for graduate students.
This book introduces systematic design methods for passive and
active RF circuits and techniques, including state-of-the-art

current digital predistortion techniques. Readers will find a
collection of novel research ideas and new architectures in
concurrent multiband power dividers, power amplifiers and related
digital enhancement techniques. This book will be of great interest
to academic researchers, R&D engineers, wireless transmitter
and protocol designers, as well as graduate students who wish to
learn the core architectures, principles and methods of multiband
RF circuits and techniques.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic silently started in early
2020, and no one was prepared for it. Unlike the outbreak of SARS
in 2002-2003, a similar coronavirus, it was less contagious than
COVID-19, but tended to be more deadly. The COVID-19 virus is much
more contagious with a relatively lower chance of causing death.
Nevertheless, it is still one of the most dangerous viruses in
human history. Studies of COVID-19 have attracted tremendous
attention from academia and governments. However, they tend to
focus on the fields of biology, virology, public health, and
psychology instead of the politics, policies, and political
attitudes related to the pandemic. Of course, it is critical to
understand the nature of this virus and seek proper policy remedies
to stop the pandemic and help citizens to regain their everyday
lives, but how the pandemic has affected the public and their views
toward politics is equally important as it will determine political
outcomes in the near future. We compare the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on public opinion, the dynamics of party politics in
Taiwan, and some of its strategic neighbors.
Poems from a boisterously out and open queer voice from Taiwan.
Ko-hua Chen’s Decapitated Poetry was the first explicitly
queer book of poems published in Taiwan and remains a foundational
work in Taiwanese poetry. Decades after it first appeared in 1995,
this collection retains the capacity to shock, appall, and jolt
readers into recognizing homosexuality as its own specific category
of being. Behind Chen’s depictions of the disjunctive realities
of queer erotic life, a formidable and uncompromising poetic
intelligence can be seen at play. Alongside the erotic, satirical
offerings from Decapitated Poetry, this volume includes selections
from Chen’s remarkable sci-fi sequences that offer further
transcorporeal meditations on forbidden queer love. Excoriating,
heretical, tender, and always alive to the transgressive potential
of language, this exhilarating volume from Seagull’s Pride List
is the perfect introduction to one of Taiwanese poetry’s most
daring voices. Â
In the last forty years, at least fifty books have been written on
the subject of soil mechanics, most of them textbooks. Only a few
touch on practical applications. Soil Engineering: Testing, Design,
and Remediation supplies the information needed to fill the gap
between textbook learning and practical know-how. When engineers
deal with major projects, such as the Teton Dam or the Leaning
Tower of Pisa, they need high-tech solutions. More often than not,
however, they deal with the foundations for warehouses, schools,
medium-rise buildings, and residential structures, projects that
need low-tech solutions. Ninety percent of the time consulting
engineers don't require mathematical treatment or computer
analysis, they require experience. Soil engineering problems cannot
be resolved with textbook information alone. This book provides the
practical meaning of the different aspects of soil mechanics, the
use of unconfined compression test data, the meaning of
consolidated tests, the practical value of lateral pressure, and
more. In addition to the technical aspects of foundation
investigation, in the real world the shadow of litigation looms
over every consultant's head. The author covers legal issues in
detail. After several years in foundation investigation most
consultants realize that soil engineering is a combination of art
and science. Soil Engineering: Testing, Design and Remediation
demystifies this connection and supplies real-world examples of
practical applications. This hands-on, ready reference will be
essential tool for any consultant working in the field.

for practical engineering systems, the book includes coverage of
theoretic methods and practical applications of disturbance
estimation and compensation for control systems through a DOBC
approach. It considers applications in flight control systems,
motion control systems, and process control systems. Supplies an
authoritative overview of disturbance observer based control
approaches Reports on recent developments in disturbance estimation
techniques Considers matched and mismatched disturbance/uncertainty
attenuation for DOBC Illustrates applications of the methods
covered with detailed engineering case studies Filled with valuable
insights gathered over decades of research by the authors, this
book provides time- and stress-saving guidance for anyone
interested in the theory and method research of DOBC. Using typical
engineering examples, the text provides readers with an
understanding of recent developments in DOBC as well as the tools
required to make the most of this promising approach to
disturbance-attenuation.

This book aims to bridge the gap between the production of global
news and the practices of translation by focusing mainly on
television news translation, and expects to help understand how
news translators in this context reproduce news stories in the
process of news translation. The authors adopt the method of case
study, using a foreign news desk in a certain news network in
Taiwan as the object of this research and looking into the workings
of the organization. The results of the existing study show that
news translation should be considered a type of translation in a
more generalized meaning, notwithstanding the fact that there are
differences between news translation and general translation. On
the other hand, in the process of production of global news, the
news translators in television newsroom mainly take into
consideration three factors: the footage, the length of news item,
and the spoken language, which marks great distinctions from
general translation.
The book adopts the principle of guiding surgery by anatomy,
fixation by biomechanics, and clinical procedures by functional
recovery. In each chapter, the applied anatomy of the fracture site
is first introduced, which confers prominence to the relationship
between the anatomical structure and surgery and emphasizes the
structure that must be protected and repaired during surgery. In
addition, the biomechanical characteristics of the fracture site
are described, so that the appropriate fixation method can be
selected according to the characteristics of the mechanical
environment. In most chapters on periarticular fractures, the book
also describes in detail how the joints fulfil their function,
which is often the core of clinical decision-making, with the hope
that the reader can understand the how and the why. The book adopts
the outline-style format instead of the traditional
paragraph-by-paragraph discussion to supply readers with the
"extracted essence" in a more succinct manner, which improves the
logical flow and concision and thereby improves the readability of
the book. In addition, using more than 3,000 illustrations and
photos in 3 volumes, many of which were obtained from our clinical
practice, the book discusses injury mechanisms and the
classification and assessment of extremity and axial skeleton
fractures, with a focus on typical and new surgical methods
developed in recent years. These illustrations and photos provide
the reader with a good reference for learning surgical techniques
and skills. This third volume is focusing on axial skeleton
fractures and nonunion in 5 chapters.
In the 1950s, the residents of the southwestern coastal areas of
Taiwan suffered greatly from Blackfoot disease (BFD) due to the
consumption of arsenic-contaminated groundwater. Groundwater with
high levels of arsenic in southwestern and northeastern Taiwan
received much attention. After arsenic-safe tap water was utilized
for drinking instead of groundwater in the 1970s, BFD cases
decreased greatly. After 1990, no new BFD cases were reported, and
as a consequence, BFD problems disregarded. However, arsenic is
still present in the groundwater. This book will improve the
knowledge and understanding of the occurrence and genesis of
arsenic-rich groundwaters in Taiwan. It deals with constraints on
the mobility of arsenic in groundwater, its uptake from soil and
water by plants, arsenic-propagation through the food chain, human
health impacts, and arsenic-removal technologies. Taiwan case
experiences are described in this book and can be applied
worldwide. This book is a state-of-the-art overview of research on
arsenic in Taiwan and is designed to: create interest in regions
within Taiwan that are affected by the presence of arseniferous
aquifers; draw attention from the international scientific
community; increase awareness among researchers, administrators,
policy makers, and company executives; improve the international
cooperation on arsenic problems worldwide.
