Nikki Quintero, an agent from the Colombian National Police Special
Operations Command arrives in London and informs the National
Security Agency that two Colombian assassins are on their way to
London to murder an English police officer in revenge for him
thwarting their attempted importation of a vast quantity of cocaine
into the UK some months earlier. The National Security Agency
quickly identifies John Ridge as being the policeman at risk and
with Ridge's help put in place a sting operation designed to lead
to the arrest of the people involved in the conspiracy to murder
him. Working closely with Nikki Quintero, Ridge soon becomes
distracted from the operation by Nikki, who has other things on her
mind. Once again, Ridge's supervisors seem unwilling to assist him
and spend their time trying to get him suspended from duty. Ridge,
out jogging one evening, is confronted by the giant Colombian
assassin lying in wait for him at the end of the Brighton Pier. A
violent confrontation takes place between the two men on the pier
where there can only be one winner. The situation then gets worse
when Ridge discovers that his family is at risk, when they are held
hostage by Mateo Garcia. Can Ridge beat the odds stacked against
him and rescue his family before Garcia exacts his revenge?
Colombian Retribution revolves around the furious reaction of the
Colombian Cartel to those who thwarted their earlier importation of
drugs into the UK. A plan is hatched in Cartagena at the highest
level of the cartel and a paid assassin is sent first of all to
France, where he murders three people connected to the importation
of the drugs as they were transported through France. The assassin
then travels via the cross-channel ferry to Dover and onwards to
Norfolk, where he murders four more people but misses the one
person he wanted to kill, ex-customs officer, Sarah Mundey. By now
the Serious Organised Crime Agency, aware of the man's activities
set in motion a plan to isolate and expose him to arrest.
Ultimately, the killer travels to Brighton & Hove and murders a
Police Community Support Officer before he eventually tracks
Detective Constable John Ridge to Brighton Town Hall where he
finally comes face-to-face with his nemesis. A violent encounter
takes place in the main hall of the Town Hall between the assassin
and Ridge before moving downstairs to the Victorian male cell block
in the old police station, where the situation reaches its bloody
conclusion.
The three brothers planned the importation of cocaine with great
care. If the plan worked out they would become the biggest drug
importers in the United Kingdom, able to inflate prices of the drug
to whatever level they wanted. They would make millions! Standing
in their way is Detective Constable John Ridge. He has just
returned to duties within the same Intelligence Unit after a three
year absence and is finding that his day-to-day Intelligence
gathering work style is hampered by his two immediate supervisors
who seem determined to get rid of him. When one of the brothers
offers Ridge the chance of recovering a lorry load of cocaine as it
enters the Port of Dover, he gladly accepts the offer, not
realising the price he will have to pay. Everything goes horribly
wrong, when Ridge is suspended from duty and his granddaughter,
Sasha, is kidnapped by the gang. Sasha later escapes from the gang
and is found wandering in Essex by local police officers who take
her to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. Ridge meets up with her
there and during a conversation with Sasha discovers the full
extent of the brothers' plan. With the original police and Customs
plan now in tatters, Ridge tries desperately to recover momentum
and get the job back on track.
An expansive guide for resistance and solidarity across this
storied region. Â Richmond and Central Virginia are a
historic epicenter of America’s racialized history. This
alternative guidebook foregrounds diverse communities in the region
who are mobilizing to dismantle oppressive systems and
fundamentally transforming the space to live and thrive. Featuring
personal reflections from activists, artists, and community
leaders, this book eschews colonial monuments and confederate
memorials to instead highlight movements, neighborhoods, landmarks,
and gathering spaces that shape social justice struggles across the
history of this rapidly growing area. Â The sites, stories,
and events featured here reveal how community resistance and
resilience remain firmly embedded in the region’s landscape. A
People’s Guide to Richmond and Central Virginia counters the
narrative that elites make history worth knowing, and sites worth
visiting, by demonstrating how ordinary people come together to
create more equitable futures.
Bravo for tomatoes, beans and kale. But what's next for the ardent home gardener? Wheats, including farro, spelt and kamut, are surprisingly easy and very rewarding backyard crops. They can be planted as early as the ground can be worked in spring and harvested mid-summer to make room for fall crops. These ancient food sources can be milled for flour, sprouted or eaten as whole grains to retain their natural amino acids, fibre, vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids and probiotics, among other benefits.
In addition to wheat, there are also heirloom cultivars of barley and oats that offer an abundant way for gardeners to harvest fibre, protein and carbohydrates. Buckwheat makes an excellent grain substitute and attracts many beneficial insects. Seeds like soybeans, flax, amaranth, quinoa and Styrian pumpkin are very high in protein and there are many beautiful types that are easy to grow. Expert gardener Dan Jason provides gardening advice and recommends varieties that are adapted to Canadian conditions.
Once the harvest is in, it's time to celebrate with Michele Genest's fifty vibrant vegetarian recipes featuring the garden's bounty. Ranging from the simple (Pumpkin Seed Butter Cookies) to the sophisticated (Beet and Triticale Gnocchi with Kale Pesto), the recipes in this exciting garden-to-kitchen volume will inspire readers to expand their horizons when it comes to growing and cooking grains and seeds.
