Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS) nations have become a
strong engine of South-South Cooperation. The most significant outcome of
the emergence of BRICS is the shift they have brought to the balance of
power in global affairs. The past decade has steadily accelerated
commercial and strategic engagements between BRICS and Africa. The
BRICS countries constitute Africa’s largest trading partners and new
investors. BRICS has nourished Africa’s economic emergence and elevated
the continent’s contemporary global positioning. This book seeks to
determine the potential of BRICS-Africa cooperation in promoting African
development.
Some of the critical issues in this book include the following: a) What will be
the impact of intra-BRICS and BRICS–Africa cooperation and partnerships,
mainly through the New Industrial Revolution, financial technologies,
infrastructure, economic growth and development in health; b) Determine the
relevance of the BRICS New Development Bank in the post-COVID era; c)
Examine the governance and accountability mechanisms required to
entrench BRICS governance cooperation with the continent, and e)
Determine strategies that address gender developmental disparities and
inequalities in BRICS and Africa.
This book consists of five sections, preceded by an introduction and later at
the end of the chapters, a conclusion. The five mentioned sections respond
to the 2020 12th BRICS Summit, ‘Global Stability, Shared Security, and
Innovative Growth thematic thrusts.
The Fifth edition of Marketing Management: A South African Perspective, the leading marketing textbook in Southern Africa, adopts a new perspective on the business environment and the way in which businesses can deal with changes in that environment.

Watch a thousand years unfold in the life of one
magnificent tree! A thousand years ago, a tiny acorn fell to the
ground. As the years pass, it grows . . . and GROWS into an
enormous oak tree! As the centuries sweep by, children play games
around the tree. Families dance about it. A fleeing king even hides
inside its hollow trunk! The tree gives food and shelter to a host
of animals, from squirrels and badgers to birds and beetles. After
a thousand years, the ancient tree finally falls in a storm - but a
new acorn sprouts, and the cycle of life begins all over again. The
tree's magical life story is brought to life in Julia Donaldson's
rich, dramatic rhyme. Victoria Sandøy's gorgeous, atmospheric
illustrations perfectly capture the changing seasons, and the
people and wildlife that pass by Children will love spotting all
the creatures in the pictures, and seeing the games children play
around the tree This is a book that encourages us all to look more
closely at nature, and to appreciate the wonder of our ancient
trees. The final pages of the book contain extra fascinating facts
about oak trees and the animals that depend on them. Praise for The
Christmas Pine, also by Julia Donaldson and Victoria Sandøy:
"Magical . . . as well as paying tribute to tradition, the gentle
rhythmic verse and stunning pictures illuminate the two other
things close to Julia's heart: the power of children and song"
Julia Donaldson is the author of many of the best-loved children's
books ever written. She has been awarded a CBE for services to
literature, and is the most celebrated children's writer in Britain
today. Many of Julia Donaldson's beloved picture books have been
made into award-winning animated films which are regularly shown on
the BBC at Christmas.
Microbial Pesticides: Biological Resources, Production and
Application provides a concise and accessible introduction on the
history of microbial pesticides, their impact on global ecology,

description of the state-of-the-art technologies available for the
production, application, limitations and long-term viability of
these bio-products. Information is listed per biological group
(i.e., virus, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, microsporidia and
microbial metabolites), and is supported by sound scientific data.
The book is copiously illustrated, with original pictures
clarifying the most common techniques and protocols utilized in
microbiological biocontrol technology. Finally, images of all
biological active ingredients currently used in commercially
produced formulations, as well as laboratory developed
formulations, are illustrated and listed in detailed tables for
prompt access.
The understanding and retention of Mathematics lessons is a
challenge faced by teachers, parents and the Department of Basic
Education. This could be caused by the fact that most learners
learn Mathematics in English, which is not their home language.
This results in them taking time to translate into isiXhosa each
concept taught by the teacher. This dictionary comes as a response
to that problem, for learners and teachers. The way it is written
makes it easy for even parents to navigate through it when
explaining difficult Mathematical concepts to their children when
assisting them in their studies. Explaining the English
Mathematical concepts is difficult for parents, more especially
those who never studied Mathematics. This dictionary is good
because each concept is defined in both English and isiXhosa. The
terms selected here were chosen by Mathematics experts and
teachers. These are the people who work with learners, and who also
understand their Mathematical challenges. The Mathematics
Dictionary is a Mathematics support material that can be used by
the learner, teacher and the parent at home. Each defined term is
supported by a picture that is based on the life and society of the
isiXhosa speaking people. This is one of the aspects that will make
the learners enjoy using this dictionary, because it talks about
things that they know and are accustomed to, even though they do
not take them as Mathematical concepts.
Eternity is a unique kind of existence that is supposed to belong
to the most real being or beings. It is an existence that is not
shaken by the common wear and tear of time. Over the two and half
millennia history of Western philosophy we find various conceptions
of eternity, yet one sharp distinction between two notions of
eternity seems to run throughout this long history: eternity as
timeless existence, as opposed to eternity as existence in all
times. Both kinds of existence stand in sharp contrast to the
coming in and out of existence of ordinary beings, like hippos,
humans, and toothbrushes: were these eternally-timeless, for
example, a hippo could not eat, a human could not think or laugh,
and a toothbrush would be of no use. Were a hippo an
eternal-everlasting creature, it would not have to bother itself
with nutrition in order to extend its existence. Everlasting human
beings might appear similar to us, but their mental life and
patterns of behavior would most likely be very different from ours.
The distinction between eternity as timelessness and eternity as
everlastingness goes back to ancient philosophy, to the works of
Plato and Aristotle, and even to the fragments of Parmenides'
philosophical poem. In the twentieth century, it seemed to go out
of favor, though one could consider as eternalists those proponents
of realism in philosophy of mathematics, and those of timeless
propositions in philosophy of language (i.e., propositions that are
said to exist independently of the uttered sentences that convey
their thought-content). However, recent developments in
contemporary physics and its philosophy have provided an impetus to
revive notions of eternity due to the view that time and duration
might have no place in the most fundamental ontology. The
importance of eternity is not limited to strictly philosophical
discussions. It is a notion that also has an important role in
traditional Biblical interpretation. The Tetragrammaton, the Hebrew
name of God considered to be most sacred, is derived from the
Hebrew verb for being, and as a result has been traditionally
interpreted as denoting eternal existence (in either one of the two
senses of eternity). Hence, Calvin translates the Tetragrammaton as
'l'Eternel', and Mendelssohn as 'das ewige Wesen' or 'der Ewige'.
Eternity also plays a central role in contemporary South American
fiction, especially in the works of J.L. Borges. The representation
of eternity poses a major challenge to both literature and arts
(just think about the difficulty of representing eternity in music,
a thoroughly temporal art). The current volume aims at providing a
history of the philosophy of eternity surrounded by a series of
short essays, or reflections, on the role of eternity and its
representation in literature, religion, language, liturgy, science,
and music. Thus, our aim is to provide a history of philosophy as a
discipline that is in constant commerce with various other domains
of human inquisition and exploration.

Volume XXII of the distinguished annual Studies in Contemporary
Jewry explores the major and rapid changes experienced by a
population known variously as "Sephardim," "Oriental" Jews and
"Mizrahim" over the last fifty years. Although Sephardim are
popularly believed to have originated in Spain or Portugal, the
majority of Mizrahi Jews today are actually the descendants of Jews
from Muslim and Arab countries in the Middle East, North Africa,
and Asia. They constitute a growing proportion of Israeli Jewry and
continue to revitalize Jewish culture in places as varied as
France, Latin America, and the United States.
Sephardic Jewry and Mizrahi Jews offers a collection of new
scholarship on the issues of self-definition and identity facing
Sephardic Jewry. The essays draw on a variety of
disciplines--demography, history, political science, sociology,
religious and gender studies, anthropology, and literature.
Contributors explore the issues surrounding the emergence and
increasingly wide usage of "Mizrahi" in place of "Sephardic," as
well as the invigoration of Sephardic Judaism. They look at the
evolution of Sephardic politics in Israel through the dramatic rise
and continuing influence of the Shas political party and its
spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. Other contributors examine
the variegated nature of Mizrahi immigration to Israel, fictional
portraits of female Mizrahi immigrants to Israel in the 1940s and
1950s, contemporary Mizrahi Israel feminism, modern Arab
historiography's portrayal of Jews of Muslim lands, and the
changing Sephardic halakhic tradition.
Ex nihilo nihil fit. Philosophy, especially great philosophy, does
not appear out of the blue. In the current volume, a team of top
scholars-both up-and-coming and established-attempts to trace the
philosophical development of one of the greatest philosophers of
all time. Featuring twenty new essays and an introduction, it is
the first attempt of its kind in English and its appearance
coincides with the recent surge of interest in Spinoza in
Anglo-American philosophy. Spinoza's fame-or notoriety-is due
primarily to his posthumously published magnum opus, the Ethics,
and, to a lesser extent, to the 1670 Theological-Political
Treatise. Few readers take the time to study his early works
carefully. If they do, they are likely to encounter some surprising
claims, which often diverge from, or even utterly contradict, the
doctrines of the Ethics. Consider just a few of these assertions:
that God acts from absolute freedom of will, that God is a whole,
that there are no modes in God, that extension is divisible and
hence cannot be an attribute of God, and that the intellectual and
corporeal substances are modes in relation to God. Yet, though
these claims reveal some tension between the early works and the
Ethics, there is also a clear continuity between them. Spinoza
wrote the Ethics over a long period of time, which spanned most of
his philosophical career. The dates of the early drafts of the
Ethics seem to overlap with the assumed dates of the composition of
the Treatise on the Emendation of the Intellect and the Short
Treatise on God, Man, and His Well Being and precede the
publication of Spinoza's 1663 book on Descartes' Principles of
Philosophy. For this reason, a study of Spinoza's early works (and
correspondence) can illuminate the nature of the problems Spinoza
addresses in the Ethics, insofar as the views expressed in the
early works help us reconstruct the development and genealogy of
the Ethics. Indeed, if we keep in mind the common dictum "nothing
comes from nothing "-which Spinoza frequently cites and appeals
to-it is clear that great works like the Ethics do not appear ex
nihilo. In light of the preeminence and majesty of the Ethics, it
is difficult to study the early works without having the Ethics in
sight. Still, we would venture to say that the value of Spinoza's
early works is not at all limited to their being stations on the
road leading to the Ethics. A teleological attitude of such a sort
would celebrate the works of the "mature Spinoza " at the expense
of the early works. However, we have no reason to assume that on
all issues the views of the Ethics are better argued, developed,
and motivated than those of the early works. In other words, we
should keep our minds open to the possibility that on some issues
the early works might contain better analysis and argumentation
than the Ethics.
Winding it Back: Teaching to Individual Differences in Music
Classroom and Ensemble Settings is a collaborative effort by
practicing music educators, teacher educators, pedagogy experts,
researchers, and inclusion enthusiasts with a combined one hundred
plus years in the field of music education. The framework of this
text is centered on the following principles: 1) Honoring the
individual learning needs of all students; 2) providing multiple
access points and learning levels; and 3) providing adequate
learning conditions for all students within the music classroom.
This framework is based on research and best practice within music
education. Topics include early childhood music, creative movement,
older beginners, rhythm, melodic, and tonal development as well as
secondary choral and instrumental music. All chapters focus on
meeting the needs of all students and all learning levels within
the music classroom. Many of the authors are pairs of music
educators that bring different experiences to each topic. In
addition, all authors contributed to the editing and musical
examples that are provided as part of the collaborative writing
process preserving the synergy between practicing K-12 music
educators, researchers, and music teacher educators. Therefore,
this text can be used as a resource for practicing music educators,
teacher educators, and arts integration specialists and
enthusiasts. Specific musical examples are provided both within the
text and on the extended companion website. These include musical
examples, lesson ideas, videos, assessment tools and sequencing
ideas that work. The aim of this book is to provide one resource
that can be used by music educators for all students in the music
classroom both for classroom music education and music teacher
preparation.
This book contains the fully peer-reviewed papers presented at the
Third Engineering Foundation Conference on Small Fatigue Cracks,
held under the chairmanship of K.S. Ravichandran and Y. Murakami
during December 6-11, 1998, at the Turtle Bay Hilton, Oahu, Hawaii.
This book presents a state-of-the-art description of the mechanics,
mechanisms and applications of small fatigue cracks by most of the
world's leading experts in this field. Topics ranging from the
mechanisms of crack initiation, small crack behavior in metallic,
intermetallic, ceramic and composite materials, experimental
measurement, mechanistic and theoretical models, to the role of
small cracks in fretting fatigue and the application of small crack
results to the aging aircraft and high-cycle fatigue problems, are
covered.
Over the last several years, the four authors have jointly
conducted research into the analysis of vibrating Mindlin plates as
a collaborative project between Nanyang Technological University,
The National University of Singapore, and The University of
Queensland. The research was prompted by the fact that there is a
dearth of vibration results for Mindlin plates when compared to
classical thin plate solutions. To generate the vibration results,
the authors have successfully employed the Ritz method for general
plate shapes and boundary conditions. The Ritz method, once thought
to be awkward for general plate analysis, can be automated through
suitable trial functions (for displacements) that satisfy the
geometric plate boundary conditions "a priori." This work has been
well-received by academics and researchers, as indicated by the
continual requests for the authors' papers and the Ritz software
codes. This monograph is written with the view to share this
so-called "p"-Ritz method for the vibration analysis of Mindlin
plates and its software codes with the research community. To the
authors' knowledge, the monograph contains the first published Ritz
plate software codes of its kind.

idiotypes in autoimmunity and cancer is reviewed in depth. The
therapeutic part focusses on harnessing anti-idiotypes for treating
autoimmunological disorders, and on the employment of idiotypes for
vaccines in cancer and infectious diseases, as well as explaining
the manipulation of the idiotypic network in autoimmunity and
cancer idiotypes and vaccines.
Research on the influence of culture on consumer decision-making
and consumption behavior has witnessed tremendous growth in the
last decade. With increasing globalization, managers are becoming
increasingly aware that operating in multiple markets is crucial
for firms' survival and growth. As the world's growth engine shifts
from Europe and North America to Asia and Latin America, it has
become apparent that an inward-looking and domestic focus strategy
will not be sustainable in the long run. And success in foreign
markets requires marketers to understand not just what consumers in
these markets need but also how they think, behave, consume, and
purchase. Numerous studies have documented cultural differences in
values and beliefs, motivational orientations, emotions,
self-regulation, and information-processing styles, and the effects
of these cultural variations on consumer behavior such as brand
evaluation, materialism, and impulsive consumption. In this volume,
experts from a variety of disciplines and perspectives trace the
historical development of culture research in consumer psychology
and examine the theoretical underpinnings that account for these
findings and the current state of the field. Collectively, the
chapters provide a forum for researchers to engage in thoughtful
debates and stimulating conversations and offer directions for
future research.

the final page of the book explains the true story behind the tree
The Christmas Pine is based on a true story. It celebrates a
special tradition that stretches back over seventy years. Every
year, the Mayor of Oslo in Norway presents the British people with
a spectacular Christmas tree. The tree is a symbol of peace and
friendship, and a thank you for the UK's support during World War
II. Each year, the UK Poetry Society asks a poet to write a poem to
welcome the tree. Julia Donaldson originally wrote The Christmas
Pine to celebrate the 2020 Christmas tree. The poem was performed
by London schoolchildren, and displayed in Trafalgar Square. Julia
Donaldson is the author of many of the best-loved children's books
ever written. She has been awarded a CBE for services to
literature, and is the most celebrated children's writer in Britain
today. Many of Julia Donaldson's beloved picture books have been
made into award-winning animated films which are regularly shown on

Although regional crimes hardly ever make it to the national
circuit, they will always remain with the families and communities
of the victims and a part of the area's history. After working with
the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division as special
agent/forensic photographer for twenty-four years, Rita Shuler has
a passion for remembering the victims. In "Small-town Slayings,"
Shuler takes us back in time, showing differences and similarities
of crime solving in the past and present and some surprising twists
of court proceedings, verdicts and sentences. From an unsolved case
that has haunted her for thirty years to a cold case that was
solved after fifteen years by advanced DNA technology, Shuler
blends her own memories with extensive research, resulting in a
fast-paced, factual and fascinating look at crime in South
Carolina.
Rita Y. Shuler is also author of "Carolina Crimes" and "Murder
in the Midlands,"
The book's primary intention is to serve as a roadmap for
professionals working in developing countries interested in the
Nexus Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) approach. The book shows
a multi-disciplinary approach, showcasing the importance of the
proper use of Nexus WEFE when implementing certain development
programs in regions around the globe. It can be presented as a
manual for an individual that either wishes to implement
intervention projects following the NEXUS approach or students
interested in cooperation and development. The book begins with a
general explanation of the theoretical concepts and implementation
processes of Nexus WEFE and continues getting into case studies,
explaining the importance of proper implementation and potential
drawbacks and solutions to them. This book has a particular focus
on the European Union cooperation policies when implementing such
an approach in developing countries.
With the extraordinary growth of Christianity in the global south
has come the rise of "reverse missions," in which countries in
Asia, Africa, and Latin America send missionaries to re-evangelize
the West. In The Spirit Moves West, Rebecca Kim focuses on South
Korea as a case study of how non-Western missionaries evangelize
Americans, particularly white Americans. Known as the "Asian
Protestant Superpower," South Korea now sends more missionaries
abroad than any country except the United States; there are
approximately 22,000 Korean missionaries in over 160 countries.
Drawing on four years of in-depth interviews, participant
observation, and surveys of South Korea's largest
non-denominational missionary-sending agency, University Bible
Fellowship, Rebecca Kim gives us an inside look at reverse
missions. Conducting her research both in the US and South Korea,
she studies the motivations and methods of Korean evangelicals who
have sought to "bring the gospel back" to America since the 1970s.
She also explores how a mission movement from the global South
could evolve over time in the West. The Spirit Moves West is the
first empirically-grounded examination of a much-discussed
phenomenon, which concludes by considering what the future of
non-Western, especially Korean, missions will bring.
