Jackson’s Handmade Soft Pastels are high quality, artist grade pastels. There are 200 soft and bright colours in the range, as well as a wide variety of themed selection sets.

Our Soft Pastels are made carefully by hand which makes them very soft with a smooth, buttery consistency. They have a low binder to pigment ratio which makes them rich and luminous, allowing for both subtle and bold mark making.

Their excellent lightfast qualities mean that pastel paintings created with them will not deteriorate over time. The four fluorescent colours are the only exception; like all fluorescent colours they are not lightfast.

The pastels are made solely from pigments, a bentonite clay binder, and calcium carbonate (chalk). Each pastel measures approximately 55mm in length and 15mm in diameter.

Daler-Rowney Perfix Colourless Fixative is an excellent quality fixative spray that fixes charcoal and pastels. It sprays evenly with a minimal effect on tonal values and is easy to use. Lay your drawing flat and holding the can about 30cm away, spray back and forth across the drawing ensuring even coverage over the surface. It dries quickly to prevent smudging and, once dry, it's completely colourless so you can continue working on top of it.

PanPastel : Medium : Colorless Blender

A natural milk casein fixative that is based on an antique recipe used by Degas himself. This is the perfect fixative for pastel, charcoal, gouache and watercolour. If the nozzle plugs up, just scratch it gently with your fingernail or another small object and remove any clots. Then spray again. The alcohol in the formula will dissolve any remaining blockage.Workable FixativesFixatives allow you to fix your work at a certain point and continue working, or to seal the artwork to protect it. This is a ‘Workable fixative’, which will add a toothy texture to your artwork. This is useful when the surface of the paper has become saturated, so that no more pencil will apply.
