Seventeen-year-old Snow lives within the walls of the Whittaker
Institute, a high security mental hospital in upstate New York.
Deep down, she knows she doesn't belong there, but she has no
memory of life outside, except for the strangest dreams. And then a
mysterious, handsome man, an orderly in the hospital, opens a door
- and Snow knows that she has to leave ... She finds herself in icy
Algid, her true home, with witches, thieves, and a strangely
alluring boy named Kai. As secret after secret is revealed, Snow
discovers that she is on the run from a royal lineage she's
destined to inherit, a father more powerful and ruthless than she
could have imagined, and choices of the heart that could change
everything. Heroine or villain, queen or broken girl, frozen heart
or true love, Snow must choose her fate ... A wonderfully icy
fantastical romance, with a strong heroine choosing her own
destiny, Danielle Paige's irresistibly page-turning Snow Queen is
like Maleficent and Frozen all grown up.
With the depression bearing down on her family and food in short supply, Cassie Logan isn't sure where her next meal will come from. But there is one thing that she knows will always be there-the whispering trees outside her window. Cassie's trees are a steady source of comfort to her, but they also happen to be worth a lot of money. When Mr. Andersen tries to force Big Ma to sell their valuable trees, Cassie can't just sit by and let it happen. She knows that her family needs the money, but something tells her that they need the trees just as much. The beloved heroine of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry enchants us again in this story of strength and pride.
In 1912, six months after Robert Falcon Scott and four of his men came to grief in Antarctica, a thirty-two-year-old Russian navigator named Valerian Albanov embarked on an expedition that would prove even more disastrous. In search of new Arctic hunting grounds, Albanov's ship, the Saint Anna, was frozen fast in the pack ice of the treacherous Kara Sea-a misfortune grievously compounded by an incompetent commander, the absence of crucial nautical charts, insufficient fuel, and inadequate provisions that left the crew weak and debilitated by scurvy.
For nearly a year and a half, the twenty-five men and one woman aboard the Saint Anna endured terrible hardships and danger as the icebound ship drifted helplessly north. Convinced that the Saint Anna would never free herself from the ice, Albanov and thirteen crewmen left the ship in January 1914, hauling makeshift sledges and kayaks behind them across the frozen sea, hoping to reach the distant coast of Franz Josef Land. With only a shockingly inaccurate map to guide him, Albanov led his men on a 235-mile journey of continuous peril, enduring blizzards, disintegrating ice floes, attacks by polar bears and walrus, starvation, sickness, snowblindness, and mutiny. That any of the team survived is a wonder. That Albanov kept a diary of his ninety-day ordeal-a story that Jon Krakauer calls an "astounding, utterly compelling book," and David Roberts calls "as lean and taut as a good thriller"-is nearly miraculous.
First published in Russia in 1917, Albanov's narrative is here translated into English for the first time. Haunting, suspenseful, and told with gripping detail, In the Land of White Death can now rightfully take its place among the classic writings of Nansen, Scott, Cherry-Garrard, and Shackleton.

The Bake Shop. Christiana Kurtz loves to bake, but when her bake
stand becomes too busy, her mother encourages her to move her
business to the local market. Her new bake shop is an instant
success, but it becomes so inundated with customers that the line
blocks the leather and woodcraft shop next door. The shop's owner,
Jeff Stoltzfus, catches Christiana's attention at first glance with
his dark brown eyes and sad expression, and she longs to know more
about him. After a series of mishaps and Jeff's complaints that her
stand is driving away his business due to the lines, their
relationship begins rockily. Drawn to each other despite
themselves, Jeff and Christiana forge a friendship that begins to
deepen, and Jeff slowly begins to trust her with the painful
secrets of his past. When Christiana's father makes a surprise
visit to the market, he is upset to find that Jeff uses the
building's electricity to personalize his items. He tells
Christiana that Jeff is too modern for her, and she's forbidden
from dating him. Christiana is crushed, but she knows she must obey
her father. When Jeff's shop catches fire one day, he puts the
entire market in jeopardy-including Christiana's bake shop, but she
can't deny how she feels about him despite his mistakes. Though the
odds are against them, can the two young people find a way to
rebuild both their businesses and their relationship? Sweet,

The I Ching has evolved over millennia from its roots in early
shamanic and oracular practices on to our modern versions of The
Book of Changes by way of hundreds, if not thousands, of
interpretations, translations, commentaries, and commentaries on
commentaries. My efforts in The Small World I Ching have been
directed towards shaping my commentaries and interpretations in
such a way that they are recognisable to 21st century individuals
who seek a deeper level of understanding of the dynamics of the
choices and challenges that confront them. The traditional I Ching
consists of 64 six-line figures ('hexagrams') constituted of solid
('yang') or broken ('yin') lines. The lines and their movements
('Changes') represent the energies and dynamics of all of life,
human and non-human, universal and personal. Commentaries on these
figures – or 'Images' – are traditionally accompanied by
comments on each of the six lines. A particular Image is accessed
by the individual when they consult the book through a process of
throwing six coins or manipulating 50 plant stalks. In this version
I have introduced several different ways of accessing the hexagrams
and their Commentaries without the use of coins or other objects.
In addition, I have eliminated comments on the individual lines and
sought to reflect their various possibilities within the main
Commentary. The I Ching is a text to be consulted, not a book to be
read. Each consultation is a one-off and, at its best, represents
an engagement between a source of deep wisdom and an individual who
brings curiosity, honesty, and openness to the encounter.
(Scepticism and a closed mind will ensure that no encounter takes
place at all.)
Cumulative review pages after every two units offer further
revision. Great students’ tips give advice on study and exam
techniques. The Digital Workbook includes the content of the print
Workbook with fully interactive activities, audio and automated
marking. Teachers can monitor students' work using the Progress
Tracker. The Exam Trainer is designed to familiarise students with
exam tasks through extra practice and exam tips.
