The Scriptures tell us that when we pray the will of God, he
delights to answer our prayers. But what is God's will in any given
situation? How can we know it? And if we don't know it, how can we
pray it? Linda Evans Shepherd shows readers that God's will is not
a mystery--it's clearly laid out in his Word through his many
promises. Through stories, practical application, examples of
prayers, and guided reflection, Shepherd leads readers toward a
more powerful prayer life. Arranged by topic for ease of use, this
book shows how to pray God's promises - of his presence - of love -
of peace - of joy - of hope - for provision - for health - for
breakthroughs - for our relationships - over children and loved
ones Shepherd includes a chapter on God's powerful answers to
prayer that will inspire readers to search the Scriptures, pray
God's will, and wait expectantly for his promised answers.
The book of Psalms: Poetry on Fire by The Passion Translation
captures the deep emotion and passionate expression of the
psalmist, providing comfort and joy, and leading us to the place
where worship flows. These praises placed inside poetry spill out
of a fiery passionate heart. Prayers on Fire includes 365 prayers
inspired by this heart-felt translation of the book of Psalms. Each
day contains an excerpt from a psalm and then a prayer from the
heart, providing an expression of faith and worship for sincere
worshipers. Excerpt of a prayer inspired by Psalm 1:2 - As I'm
hidden within your greatness, I discover your eternal purposes. In
love and humility I bow before you, my awe-inspiring God. The way
you watch over me, infuses me with confidence and courage. I find I
can stand on my own two feet again because you are with me. You are
my source; I draw life from the waters of your love. Walking step
by step with you brings me joy unlike I've ever known. Your Word
illuminates my path, and wherever I go, I flourish. No matter the
season, I'm blessed-established firmly in you.

***THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER*** We begin to feel less
alone, more loved and less judged when good is . . . enough. In
this collection of 40ish short spiritual devotionals, Good Enough
reveals the small things we can do to inch toward a deeper, richer,
truer kind of faith. Through blessings, prayers and human truths,
learn to live with imperfection in a culture of self-help that
promotes endless progress, and discover a companion for when you
want to stop feeling guilty that you're not living your best life
now. Hailed by Glennon Doyle as 'the Christian Joan Didion', in
these gorgeously written reflections Kate Bowler and Jessica Richie
proffer fresh imagination for how truth, beauty, and meaning can be
discovered amidst the chaos of life. Their words celebrate
kindness, honesty and interdependence in a culture that rewards
ruthless individualism and blind optimism. Ultimately, in these
pages we can rest in the encouragement to strive for what is
possible today - while recognising that though we are finite, the
life in front of us can still be beautiful.
Seekers and church members today are rediscovering the power of
many of Christianity's ancient traditions, such as Evening Prayer.
For many years now, in England, they have turned to the writing of
Jim Cotter. In fact, the New Zealand Prayer Book's Evening Prayer
section comes largely from Prayer at Night's Approaching. In this
paperback volume, meant to be treasured for a lifetime, there are
prayers for the seven days of the week plus additional readings for
the various liturgical seasons. Combining the best of the ancient
phrases of the Christian tradition with contemporary images and
language, Cotter's words encourage the reader to pray more deeply
and experience God more fully.
Behind the success of the Alpha Course is an army of prayer
warriors interceding and praying for every aspect of the course.
More and more Alpha churches around the world are adopting creative
methods of corporate prayer to underpin church life. In this simple
booklet, Pete Greig describes practical models of corporate prayer,
alongside inspiring testimonies from Alpha Offices and 24-7 Prayer
networks around the world, and provides helpful guidelines for
becoming an effective praying community.
Jean Pierre de Caussade, the author of the classic which came to be
known as Self-Abandonment to Divine Providence, was known as a good
preacher. Between 1731 and 1749 he was directing a retreat house in
Nancy. Notes were taken of his conferences but they were not
published in book form for a wider readership until 1860, more than
a hundred years later. They were eventually edited and published by
Henri Ramiere who gave it its title. In his teaching de Caussade
hones in upon the 'littleness' and 'ordinariness' of the daily
routine in which God must be found. God is NOW and God is HERE,
otherewise God is NOWHERE. If God is not found in the here and now,
we will not find him in musings about the future or futile regrets
over the past.
This book is the first new devotional resource of its kind for
Episcopalians in more than two generations. It includes devotions
to mark the rhythm of the day (brief prayers at fixed hours); the
mystery of time and the rhythm of the week, the months, and the
Christian year; self-examination and preparation for reconciliation
and the Eucharist; intercessory prayers; devotions to the Mother of
Jesus; praying with the saints; plus praying with icons. Each
section of the book will open with a brief introduction and
"teaching" by Bishop Griswold, guiding the reader in the effective
use of the material.
A book for personal devotions selected from the Prayer Book and
Bible. The simple, accessible structure allows even those with

psalms from Common Worship: Daily Prayer. It features classic
Christian prayers from across the ages alongside a selection of

schemes of Bible reading or simply to 'stand alone' as a daily act
of prayer.
Prayer and praying takes a variety of forms, but in today s secular
world, many people aren t sure what it is or how to do it. Donigian

those who are uncertain or unclear about prayer and praying.

A significant collection of articles on expanding our language
about God, compiled by Ruth A. Meyers for the Standing Liturgical
Commission. Topics discussed include: theological, biblical, and
historical perspectives on Supplemental Liturgical Materials;
biblical origins of inclusive language; historical and theological
perspectives on expanding liturgical language; and gender and
trinitarian language.
Celtic traditions point to God in the natural elements in this
refreshing take on how to pray. Where is God when we pray? Artist
and priest Ruth Pattison looks to the legacy of Celtic spirituality
to say God is in all of creation that surrounds us-earth, fire,
water, air-and not up in the clouds. She invites the reader into a
grounded spirituality rooted deep in Celtic tradition that sees
everything as infused with the Spirit-including humanity. The
material will deepen the experience of worship with creative
hands-on spiritual practices for the context of liturgy. It can
also be used for creating the structure and substance of retreats,
spiritual formation classes, and for helping parents who want to
learn to pray with children.
Episcopalians consider themselves to be people whose individual and
corporate lives are shaped by the Book of Common Prayer, but aside
from worship on Sunday morning, few know what fills its nearly
1,000 pages. John Westerhoff, Episcopal priest and Christian
educator, walks readers through the ways in which the contents of
the Prayer Book can (and should) shape the lives of those who call
themselves Episcopalians. An excellent resource for parish study or
reading in advance of seminary training, Westerhoff explores a
brief history of the Prayer Book, and the ways in which it shapes
us as pilgrims and prayerful people. How Episcopalians live into
their baptism, live a Eucharistic and reconciling life, as well as
a life of wholeness and health, are explored in detail. All of
this, as Westerhoff writes, helps us lead a holy life, and one day,
to a holy death.
Centering prayer, both a meditative technique and the experience
of God s presence in every waking moment, continues to gain a
faithful following among Episcopalians and Roman Catholics at
conferences and in parish and small-group settings. David Keller,
close colleague of Thomas Keating and director of Keating s
Contemplative Ministry project, offers practical suggestions for
personal prayer, addresses its difficulties, and reveals what is
special about it in relation to other prayer traditions.
Short but substantive, this book is for Christians looking for
new insights about prayer and for people who are drawn to
contemplation, but do not think the church has much to offer
them.
Above all, Keller emphasizes that it is the integration of
personal prayer and our day-to-day activities that forms a life of
prayer. Prayer is a life-long vocation, he reasons, not a separate
compartment of life."
Put faith into action with this mission guide book Building on the
success of Call on Me: A Prayer Book for Young People, this book
focuses on the themes and core values of youth ministries in the
Episcopal Church. Youth seek ways to put their faith into action
and claim their "power," which is a hallmark of the millennial
generation according to recent research. This book offers
reflections and prayers to help young people do just that-to live
out their faith at home, church, community, and beyond. It
specifically addresses Episcopal identity for emerging adults, ages
15-25. Available in kivar or paperback binding.
