Just This is a collection of brief and evocative meditations and
practices that invites us to cultivate the gift of waking up to the
beauty of reality in all its glorious ordinariness. With his
signature blend of contemplation, theology, and pastoral
sensitivity, Fr Richard Rohr creates a spaciousness for the soul to
grow into a kind of seeing that goes far beyond merely looking to
recognising and thus appreciating. This is the heart of
contemplation, the centerpiece of any inner dialogue that frees us
from the traps of our perceptions and preoccupations. The
contemplative mind does not tell us what to see; it teaches us how
to see what we behold.
Long-time activist, author and teacher of nonviolence, Father John Dear offers here the first ever commentary on the Synoptic Gospels from the perspective of active nonviolence, in the tradition of Gandhi and Dr. King. He walks through every line of the three synoptic Gospels pointing out Jesus’ practice and teachings of nonviolence each step of the way.
Dear’s Jesus is like Gandhi and Dr. King―nonviolent to the core, a disarming, healing presence toward those in need and a revolutionary disrupter of the unjust status quo and a political threat to the ruling authorities who succeed in killing him, only to push Jesus to the heights of nonviolence through his death and resurrection.
This original commentary brings a fresh new approach to the Gospels that will help all those who preach and engage in social ministries, and inspire everyone in this time of permanent warfare, gun violence, racism, poverty and climate change.
Divine healing is the essential marker of the global phenomenon of
Pentecostal and charismatic Christianity. But although we know that
healing is central in these movements, we know surprisingly little
about how divine healing beliefs and practices reflect the
interplay of local and global patterns of cultural development. The
essays in this collection seek to discover what is the same and
what is different about such beliefs and practices in diverse
contexts, trace formal and informal lines of cultural influence
across geographic and national boundaries, and ask how healing both
reflects and contributes to larger processes of globalization. The
collection will not only flesh out a picture of how and why
spiritual healing is practiced in diverse cultural contexts and how
healing practices reflect and shape the transnational spread of
Christianity; it will also provide insight into the nature of
globalization. The authors will attend to a wide range of issues,
including the theological rationales for divine healing; the
symbolic objects and ritual enactments employed; the cultural
controversies surrounding these practices; the relationship between
Christian healing and local or indigenous healing traditions;
whether an emphasis on financial prosperity is always present; and
the extent to which Pentecostal and charismatic churches are
networked and the role of healing in such networks. All the essays
are new to this volume.
“I have read no book that more carefully, thoroughly, and tenderly displays Christ’s heart.” — Paul David Tripp, President, Paul Tripp Ministries; author, New Morning Mercies and My Heart Cries Out
Christians know what Jesus Christ has done—but who is he? What is his deepest heart for his people, weary and faltering on their journey toward heaven? Jesus said he is “gentle and lowly in heart.” This book reflects on these words, opening up a neglected yet central truth about who he is for sinners and sufferers today.

original twelve volume work known as Butler's Lives of the Saints,

Ruth Haley Barton's award-winning, practical introduction to the
spiritual practice of silence and solitude is an invitation to you
to journey into the real presence of God and hear and his voice.
Much of the Christian faith is about words - preaching, teaching,
talking with others. But the hectic demands and noise of daily
modern life can drown out God's words, and keep us from fully
meeting him. Taking the story of Elijah the prophet as inspiration
and example, Invitation to Solitude and Silence explores the power
of quietness and stillness in connecting with God. Filled with
practical exercises that draw on Ruth's own experience, it
encourages and challenges us to rethink how we see silence and
solitude and to use them to invite God deeper into our lives.
Invitation to Solitude and Silence is ideal for anyone looking for
spiritual disciplines to help them connect more fully with God and
practices to aid their spiritual formation. Ruth's gentle wisdom
will expand your idea of what prayer can be, and help you find time
to rest and renew your faith so that your relationship with God is
strengthened. Helpful and hopeful, this book is a reminder that God
does not push himself where he is not wanted but waits for us to
respond from the depths of our desire. Will you say yes?
Prayer is an essential part of the Christian life and an amazing privilege, but for many, it’s challenging. There are so many different ideas about what prayer is and how to pray that it can be confusing or even intimidating.
In How to Talk With God, Joyce gives simple, practical advice based on scriptures from the Bible that will help you discover the truth about prayer. She addresses common issues, such as how to communicate with God, how to know with confidence that He hears you, and how you can learn to hear His voice. But most importantly, you will learn that prayer is exciting because it’s the key to nurturing your personal relationship with God.
Refresh your daily rhythms and deepen your faith through an effective, powerful life of prayer!
