Few words cannot adequately praise this scholarly and uplifting work. Father Jerome Nyathi's treatise on the theology of priesthood and the role of the Father in society is indeed a triumphant first in its field. After an analysis of 'father' and 'priest-father' in linguistic terms and in the broader African context, the author moves on to examine paternalistic religions and a 'male' gendered God, with reference to feminism and structuralist approaches. There is also a section on the family and fatherhood - both in the spiritual and biological sense - offering hope in the face of acute challenges from materialism and the new culture of individualism. The author asks, How can the Church claim to be a 'family in Christ' and her workers in the field 'Fathers of a Christian family when fathers and families have become stigmatised concepts? Furthermore, the author gives well-researched answers to these problems and discusses the call to priesthood with reference to Presbyterorum Ordinis and other Vatican encyclicals. Here we find a message full of intelligence, humanity and optimism, with excellent advice for seminarians and working priest for the new millennium.
Nathan J. Stone writes, "Indeed we cannot say all that the mysterious word God means to us until we know more about Him." God's many names reveal not only different dimensions of His character but also point to their fulfillment in the Person and work of Jesus Christ. This insightful little book accurately and clearly works through the many names of God throughout the Old Testament. We can now see God in new lights and angles as we learn of His justice, His unbounded love, His preeminence, and His character--all through His names. This book has sold over 400,000 copies.
What is Revival Glory? -- It is standing under the cloud and ministering directly from the glory unto the people. -- It is seeing into the eternal realm and declaring what you are seeing. -- It is gathering in the harvest, using only the tools of the Spirit. -- It is, ultimately, the revelation of Jesus Christ. One cannot have revival without the glory or the glory without having revival. The long-awaited sequel to the bestselling Glory by the same author.

Now I overcome evil in the name of Jesus. Smith Wigglesworth was born in 1859. His family was very poor and he had to help support them by working in a woollen mill twelve hours a day at the age of six. In spite of his childhood work demands, he attended church meetings with his grandmother, who had a great Christian influence upon his life. It was at this very young age that he was led to pray for others. At sixteen he became affiliated with the Salvation Army and sensed God's call to pray and reach out for lost souls. He saw hundreds being saved at meetings. During his ministry it was confirmed that 14 people were brought back from the dead and thousands more were saved and healed of their infirmities. His messages are practical, to-the-point, and generously sprinkled with his first-person accounts about events where God supernaturally healed people. I have found Wigglesworth messages to be very pertinent for defending myself from the demonic attacks confronting all of us today.

In a world of conflict in which religious differences play a significant role, reconciliation grows increasingly important. The Ministry of Reconciliation shows how with a spirituality of reconciliation we can create the spaces in which reconciliation can happen, and with human strategies, how the process of reconciliation can move forward. From wide-ranging travels Schreiter has gained a profound wisdom and hope as well as the questions and struggles to be faced. In Part One, "Reconciliation as Spirituality, " Schreiter poses this key question: "If God did indeed raise Jesus up to a new life that breaks the grip of violence and sin on the world, what should be the concrete object of our hope?" Each of the next six chapters then meditates on post-Easter appearances as recorded in Scripture. Schreiter's explorations of such events as "the breakfast at the seashore" (John 21:1-17) and "what the women saw" (Mark 16:1-8; John 20:1-18) reveal a direct pastoral style reminiscent of Rahner and Barth at their best. From this profound and hope-filled beginning Schreiter goes on to emphasize how a spirituality of reconciliation without sound social and theological reflection on its implementation will fail. Part Two, "Elements of a Strategy for Reconciliation, " tackles such vexing questions as individual and social responsibility; truth and justice; amnesty and pardon; and how the church can aid in reconciliation. Schreiter explores questions as: How can forgiveness happen? What is justice, and how should it be sought and administered? How can a society be rebuilt that includes the perpetrators of evil?

This, the second volume of the series, is a selected set of revised versions of the scriptures of the 'less supported' established religions of the world: Jainism, Sikhism, Sufism, Shintoism, Baha'ism, Neo-Paganism; together with works of later mystics and poets, sundry esotera, the Gnostic gospels from Christianity, a couple of apocryphal pieces from Judaism, a conflation of parts of the Kabbalah with Neo-Christian reincarnationist traditions, a heterodox sutra from Hinduism, and a replacement for Psalms. All the texts been transliterated to conform, insofar as that is possible, with modern scientific understanding and a liberal, in its widest sense, political agenda, and hopefully to make them easier to read.

Father...The first in a three-part story of rescue and redemption. Carol Ann, abused child, addicted and exploited teenager, tells the brutally honest tale of her early life - as uncompromising with her own faults and failings as with those of others. Her story is all the more shocking in that it is not unusual - countless young people find themselves in much the same position for many of the same reasons. But this story has a Hero. This is how she came to know Him - and how you can too.
Shortly after John Hull went blind, after years of struggling with failing vision, he had a dream in which he was trapped on a sinking ship, submerging into another, unimaginable world. The power of this calmly eloquent, intensely perceptive memoir lies in its thorough navigation of the world of blindness - a world in which stairs are safe and snow is frightening, where food and sex lose much of their allure and playing with one's child may be agonizingly difficult. As he describes the ways in which blindness shapes his experience of his wife and children, of strangers helpful and hostile and, above all, of his God, Hull becomes a witness in the highest, true sense. Touching the Rock is a book that will instruct, move, and profoundly transform anyone who reads it.

From our families and friendships to our companies and communities, we know that trust is the fuel that drives long-term success and impact. But we also know what betrayal feels like. We know that trust is a fragile, vulnerable gift that can be abused, broken, and exploited with devastating consequences. In The Trust Protocol, Mac Richard challenges conventional wisdom with biblical insights, humor, and passion as he explains how to - process the pain of betrayal - prioritize relationships and work - discern who to trust - decide when and how to move on - deploy trust in even the harshest environments - develop active integrity The Trust Protocol provides a clear path not just to manage these tensions but to embrace them in order to experience the genuine connectedness and effectiveness we're created for.

While the French Revolution has been much discussed and studied, its impact on religious life in France is rather neglected. Yet, during this brief period, religion underwent great changes that affected everyone: clergy and laypeople, men and women, Catholics, Protestants and Jews. The "Reigns of Terror" of the Revolution drove the Church underground, permanently altering the relationship between Church and State. In this book, Nigel Aston offers a guide to these tumultuous events. While the structures and beliefs of the Catholic Church are central, it does not neglect minority groups like Protestants and Jews. Among other features, the book discusses the Constitutional Church, the end of state support for Catholicism, the "Dechristianization" campaign and the Concordat of 1801-2. Key themes discussed include the capacity of all the Churches for survival and adaptation, the role of religion in determining political allegiances during the Revolution, and the turbulence of Church-State relations. In this study, based on the latest evidence, Aston sheds new light on a dynamic period in European history and its impact on the next 200 years of religious life in France. |
