Turbo Decoder Architecture for Beyond-4G Applications (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Cheng-Chi Wong, Hsie-Chia Chang Turbo Decoder Architecture for Beyond-4G Applications (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Cheng-Chi Wong, Hsie-Chia Chang
R2,850 Discovery Miles 28 500 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book describes the most recent techniques for turbo decoder implementation, especially for 4G and beyond 4G applications. The authors reveal techniques for the design of high-throughput decoders for future telecommunication systems, enabling designers to reduce hardware cost and shorten processing time. Coverage includes an explanation of VLSI implementation of the turbo decoder, from basic functional units to advanced parallel architecture. The authors discuss both hardware architecture techniques and experimental results, showing the variations in area/throughput/performance with respect to several techniques. This book also illustrates turbo decoders for 3GPP-LTE/LTE-A and IEEE 802.16e/m standards, which provide a low-complexity but high-flexibility circuit structure to support these standards in multiple parallel modes. Moreover, some solutions that can overcome the limitation upon the speedup of parallel architecture by modification to turbo codec are presented here. Compared to the traditional designs, these methods can lead to at most 33% gain in throughput with similar performance and similar cost.

Dynamic Reconfigurable Architectures and Transparent Optimization Techniques - Automatic Acceleration of Software Execution... Dynamic Reconfigurable Architectures and Transparent Optimization Techniques - Automatic Acceleration of Software Execution (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Antonio Carlos Schneider Beck Fl, Luigi Carro
R2,981 Discovery Miles 29 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Dynamic Reconfigurable Architectures and Transparent Optimization Techniques presents a detailed study on new techniques to cope with the aforementioned limitations. First, characteristics of reconfigurable systems are discussed in details, and a large number of case studies is shown. Then, a detailed analysis of several benchmarks demonstrates that such architectures need to attack a diverse range of applications with very different behaviours, besides supporting code compatibility. This requires the use of dynamic optimization techniques, such as Binary Translation and Trace reuse. Finally, works that combine both reconfigurable systems and dynamic techniques are discussed and a quantitative analysis of one them, the DIM architecture, is presented.

Real-Time Database Systems - Architecture and Techniques (Hardcover, 2001 ed.): Kam-Yiu Lam, Tei-Wei Kuo Real-Time Database Systems - Architecture and Techniques (Hardcover, 2001 ed.)
Kam-Yiu Lam, Tei-Wei Kuo
R5,758 Discovery Miles 57 580 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In recent years, tremendous research has been devoted to the design of database systems for real-time applications, called real-time database systems (RTDBS), where transactions are associated with deadlines on their completion times, and some of the data objects in the database are associated with temporal constraints on their validity. Examples of important applications of RTDBS include stock trading systems, navigation systems and computer integrated manufacturing. Different transaction scheduling algorithms and concurrency control protocols have been proposed to satisfy transaction timing data temporal constraints. Other design issues important to the performance of a RTDBS are buffer management, index accesses and I/O scheduling. Real-Time Database Systems: Architecture and Techniques summarizes important research results in this area, and serves as an excellent reference for practitioners, researchers and educators of real-time systems and database systems.

Computer Architecture: A Minimalist Perspective (Hardcover, 2003 ed.): William F. Gilreath, Phillip A Laplante Computer Architecture: A Minimalist Perspective (Hardcover, 2003 ed.)
William F. Gilreath, Phillip A Laplante
R4,483 Discovery Miles 44 830 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The one instruction set computer (OISC) is the ultimate reduced instruction set computer (RISC). In OISC, the instruction set consists of only one instruction, and then by composition, all other necessary instructions are synthesized. This is an approach completely opposite to that of a complex instruction set computer (CISC), which incorporates complex instructions as microprograms within the processor.

Computer Architecture: A Minimalist Perspective examines computer architecture, computability theory, and the history of computers from the perspective of one instruction set computing - a novel approach in which the computer supports only one, simple instruction. This bold, new paradigm offers significant promise in biological, chemical, optical, and molecular scale computers.
Features include:

- Provides a comprehensive study of computer architecture using computability theory as a base.
- Provides a fresh perspective on computer architecture not found in any other text.
- Covers history, theory, and practice of computer architecture from a minimalist perspective. Includes a complete implementation of a one instruction computer.
- Includes exercises and programming assignments. Computer Architecture: A Minimalist Perspective is designed to meet the needs of a professional audience composed of researchers, computer hardware engineers, software engineers computational theorists, and systems engineers. The book is also intended for use in upper division undergraduate students and early graduate students studying computer architecture or embedded systems. It is an excellent text for use as a supplement or alternative in traditional Computer Architecture Courses, orin courses entitled "Special Topics in Computer Architecture."

Introduction to Operating Systems (Hardcover): Philip Avery Johnson Introduction to Operating Systems (Hardcover)
Philip Avery Johnson
R587 R536 Discovery Miles 5 360 Save R51 (9%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

An introduction to operating systems, covering processes, states of processes, synchronization, programming methods of synchronization, main memory, secondary storage and file systems. Although the book is short, it covers all the essentials and opens up synchronization by introducing a metaphor: producer--consumer that other authors have employed. The difference is that the concept is presented without the programming normally involved with the concept. The thinking is that using a warehouse, the size of which is the shared variable in synchronization terms, without the programming will aid in understanding to this difficult concept. The book also covers main memory, secondary storage with file systems, and concludes with a brief discussion of the client-server paradigm and the way in which client-server impacts the design of the World-Wide Web.

The Design and Implementation of Low-Power CMOS Radio Receivers (Hardcover, 2002 ed.): Derek Shaeffer, Thomas H. Lee The Design and Implementation of Low-Power CMOS Radio Receivers (Hardcover, 2002 ed.)
Derek Shaeffer, Thomas H. Lee
R2,999 Discovery Miles 29 990 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The primary goal of The Design and Implementation of Low-Power CMOS Radio Receivers is to explore techniques for implementing wireless receivers in an inexpensive complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Although the techniques developed apply somewhat generally across many classes of receivers, the specific focus of this work is on the Global Positioning System (GPS). Because GPS provides a convenient vehicle for examining CMOS receivers, a brief overview of the GPS system and its implications for consumer electronics is presented. The GPS system comprises 24 satellites in low earth orbit that continuously broadcast their position and local time. Through satellite range measurements, a receiver can determine its absolute position and time to within about 100m anywhere on Earth, as long as four satellites are within view. The deployment of this satellite network was completed in 1994 and, as a result, consumer markets for GPS navigation capabilities are beginning to blossom. Examples include automotive or maritime navigation, intelligent hand-off algorithms in cellular telephony, and cellular emergency services, to name a few. Of particular interest in the context of this book are embedded GPS applications where a GPS receiver is just one component of a larger system. Widespread proliferation of embedded GPS capability will require receivers that are compact, cheap and low-power. The Design and Implementation of Low-Power CMOS Radio Receivers will be of interest to professional radio engineers, circuit designers, professors and students engaged in integrated radio research and other researchers who work in the radio field.

R762 R525 Discovery Miles 5 250 Save R237 (31%) Ships in 9 - 17 working days

Data is an intrinsic part of our daily lives. Everything we do is a data point. Many of these data points are recorded with the intent to help us lead more efficient lives. We have apps that track our workouts, sleep, food intake, and personal finance. We use the data to make changes to our lives based on goals we have set for ourselves. Businesses use vast collections of data to determine strategy and marketing. Data scientists take data, analyze it, and create models to help solve problems. You may have heard of companies having data management teams or chief information officers (CIOs) or chief data officers (CDOs), etc. They are all people who work with data, but their function is more related to vetting data and preparing it for use by data scientists. The jump from personal data usage for self-betterment to mass data analysis for business process improvement often feels bigger to us than it is. In turn, we often think big data analysis requires tools held only by advanced degree holders. Although advanced degrees are certainly valuable, this book illustrates how it is not a requirement to adequately run a data science project. Because we are all already data users, with some simple strategies and exposure to basic analytical software programs, anyone who has the proper tools and determination can solve data science problems. The process presented in this book will help empower individuals to work on and solve data-related challenges. The goal of this book is to provide a step-by-step guide to the data science process so that you can feel confident in leading your own data science project. To aid with clarity and understanding, the author presents a fictional restaurant chain to use as a case study, illustrating how the various topics discussed can be applied. Essentially, this book helps traditional businesspeople solve data-related problems on their own without any hesitation or fear. The powerful methods are presented in the form of conversations, examples, and case studies. The conversational style is engaging and provides clarity.

ERP Systems for Manufacturing Supply Chains - Applications, Configuration, and Performance (Paperback): Odd Joran Sagegg,... ERP Systems for Manufacturing Supply Chains - Applications, Configuration, and Performance (Paperback)
Odd Joran Sagegg, Erlend Alfnes
R1,439 Discovery Miles 14 390 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

ERP Systems for Manufacturing Supply Chains: Applications, Configuration, and Performance provides insight into the core architecture, modules, and process support of ERP systems used in a manufacturing supply chain. This book explains the building blocks of an ERP system and how they can be used to increase performance of manufacturing supply chains. Starting with an overview of basic concepts of supply chain and ERP systems, the book delves into the core ERP modules that support manufacturing facilities and organizations. It examines each module's structure and functionality as well as the process support the module provides. Cases illustrate how the modules can be applied in manufacturing environments. Also covered is how the ERP modules can be configured to support manufacturing supply chains. Setting up an ERP system to support the supply chain within single manufacturing facility provides insight into how an ERP system is used in the smallest of manufacturing enterprises, as well as lays the foundation for ERP systems in manufacturing organizations. The book then supplies strategies for larger manufacturing enterprises and discusses how ERP systems can be used to support a complete manufacturing supply chain across different facilities and companies. The ERP systems on the market today tend to use common terminology and naming for describing specific functions and data units in the software. However, there are differences among packages. The book discusses various data and functionalities found in different ERP-software packages and uses generic and descriptive terms as often as possible to make these valid for as many ERP systems as possible. Filled with insight into ERP system's core modules and functions, this book shows how ERP systems can be applied to support a supply chain in the smallest of manufacturing organizations that only consist of a single manufacturing facility, as well as large enterprises where the manufacturing supply chain crosses multiple facilities and companies.

A Systolic Array Parallelizing Compiler (Hardcover, 1990 ed.): Ping-Sheng Tseng A Systolic Array Parallelizing Compiler (Hardcover, 1990 ed.)
Ping-Sheng Tseng
R2,955 Discovery Miles 29 550 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Widespread use of parallel processing will become a reality only if the process of porting applications to parallel computers can be largely automated. Usually it is straightforward for a user to determine how an application can be mapped onto a parallel machine; however, the actual development of parallel code, if done by hand, is typically difficult and time consuming. Parallelizing compilers, which can gen erate parallel code automatically, are therefore a key technology for parallel processing. In this book, Ping-Sheng Tseng describes a parallelizing compiler for systolic arrays, called AL. Although parallelizing compilers are quite common for shared-memory parallel machines, the AL compiler is one of the first working parallelizing compilers for distributed memory machines, of which systolic arrays are a special case. The AL compiler takes advantage of the fine grain and high bandwidth interprocessor communication capabilities in a systolic architecture to generate efficient parallel code. xii Foreword While capable of handling an important class of applications, AL is not intended to be a general-purpose parallelizing compiler."
