2020 has been an appalling year – one of the most difficult in living memory. A global pandemic, countries locked down, socio-economic catastrophe, international protests. Now more than ever, there’s a demand for vision and leadership in a time of crisis. Into the breach steps Mike Abel, founding partner of multi-award-winning agency M&C Saatchi Abel and one of the most prominent ad-men in Africa. Launched in October 2010 by Mike and partners, M&C Saatchi Abel started out as an industry underdog amid the after-shocks of the 2008 financial crisis. No clients, no money, no offices, no furniture and plenty of established competition. They didn’t know it, but the decade ahead would also be one of catastrophic state capture and economic decline for South Africa. Today M&C Saatchi Abel is an African industry leader. Its high-profile clients include Nando’s, Standard Bank, Heineken and Takealot, and Mike Abel has the ear of the country’s most powerful business leaders and parliamentary ministers. In Winning & Abel, Mike shares his lessons from the coal-face of business and leadership. Hard-earned lessons acquired in a business career that has seen him rise on the headwinds of perpetual challenges, amid economic and political chaos, to lead one of the most prominent advertising agencies on the continent. Lessons of hope and positivity that mark the tenth anniversary of the founding of M&C Saatchi Abel – and have never been more relevant.
In one of his most popular lecture courses - formerly published as Man as Symphony of the Creative Word - Rudolf Steiner presents an extraordinary panorama of spiritual knowledge centring on the human being. We are the harmony of creation - a microcosm - containing within us 'all the laws and secrets of the world'. Steiner begins by speaking about our inner relationship to three ancient and sacred representatives of the animal kingdom - eagle, lion and bul - and to the forces of the cosmos that form them. He goes on to deepen these themes by approaching the plant and animal worlds in the context of planetary and cosmic evolution. A new category is then introduced: the elemental nature spirits - the metaphysical beings who work with plants and animals. Steiner gives a unique and intimate description of them and describes the cooperation they offer to mankind. Finally, the human being - the 'harmony of the Creative Word' - is placed at the heart of this spiritual celebration of life.
Lauded 1936 documentary, showing the various stages and procedures of the operation of the Royal Mail train delivery service, that remains one of the most instantly recognised films in British film history. It begins with a voiceover commentary describing how the mail is collected for transit. Then, as the train proceeds along the course of its journey, we are shown the various regional railway stations at which it collects and deposits its cargo. Inside the train the process of sorting takes place. As it nears its destination there is a sequence - the best known in the film - in which WH Auden's spoken verse and Benjamin Britten's music are combined over montage images of racing train wheels.

The old ways of “doing HR” will no longer be relevant and it is time for HR to reimagine itself in a post-Covid world. This new role will demand a “new style” of HR professional. That is exactly what Paul Norman and sixteen HR leaders are addressing in HR: The New Agenda.
