Archetype is an exorcism of South London’s underground spirit. It’s a sound-world which draws on its ancestral echoes as equally as it captures the pulse of a city on the edge of evolution. The twelve-track collaborative record is the product of two magnetised forces who should almost repel: producer, composer and keyboard player Joe Armon-Jones, and producer/DJ Maxwell Owin. At the fore of the scene south of the river, they draw on different instincts, different disciplines, different strengths - and converge them to make something which is both challenging and startlingly fresh. Guest features on the record include Lex Amor, Shabaka Hutchings, Fatima, Rocks FOE, O the Ghost, Mala, Maysia Osu & YUIS. Archetype is caught somewhere between the club and the bedroom, both communal and intimate – something common to Joe’s world of jazz, soul and improvisation and Maxwell’s, of the sprawling sounds of hardcore continuum, from jungle to dubstep and drill. The duo were entranced by the philosophies that bind these subcultural worlds together. Following their 2017 debut project Idiom, the duo has gone from strength to strength having produced, written and collaborated with the likes of Ezra Collective, Greentea Peng, Nubya Garcia, Oscar Jerome and Moses Boyd. The Archetype soundscape spans almost six years, its beginning indistinct from Idiom’s end, but it required a suspension of reality that only lockdown could bring for the project to take on a shape of its own.

The Berlin-based duo hackedepicciotto have returned with The Silver Threshold, their fourth full length album. This cinematic and hypnotic release combines swirling electronics, shimmering autoharp and the beautiful vocal harmonies of Danielle de Picciotto (co-founder of Berlin's legendary 'Love Parade', prolific solo artist and illustrator) and Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten), blended with a plethora of instruments from around the world. Danielle and Alex have contributed to a vast and varied legacy of electronic music, although The Silver Threshold is their the first album in partnership with Mute, they are not new to the label, with both Danielle and Alex members of the last incarnation of Crime and the City Solution and Alex a member of Einstürzende Neubauten whilst also contributing to releases by Phew and Miranda Sex Garden.

"We've wanted to re-release this album for some time, " says ADULT.'s Adam Lee Miller, "but we weren't ready until now. We have some new material in the pipeline, and we thought this would be a nice way to reintroduce ourselves." It is indeed a nice way for the hugely respected Detroit duo to herald their return to the world of music, especially for anyone who missed out on Resuscitation the first time around - the album was never available digitally until the 2012 re-release and vinyl pressing on Ghostly International. The reissue thus presented the chance to own one of the more influential records of the early 2000s: either on double 12" LP or, for the first time, as a digital release. Now, in 2022, the vinyl is available for the first time in a new red and black marble colorway. When it first dropped in 2001, Resuscitation served as a de facto introduction to the duo, collecting a bunch of songs on CD that had only previously been available on hard-to-find singles and EPs. Eleven years later, it does the same thing, except this time around, we can see just how influential it's creators' work has been - and Adult.'s music only sounds more remarkable with the benefit of hindsight. At the time, Resuscitation's combination of crisp beats, squelch-laden synths and Nicola Kuperus' detached mono-tone sounded like a broadcast from the future, steeped in the analog synth sounds of forebears like Kraftwerk but possessed of an ultramodern sheen all it's own. The duo's visual aesthetic was just as important - Kuperus' photography adorned all their album packaging (including this re-release), and their live shows drew on a sense of what a reviewer once called "detached intrigue." Echoes of Adult.'s aesthetic can be heard today in everything from today's surfeit of analog synth-toting minimal wave bands to the highly stylized divas who dominate the pop charts. But really, in 2022 Resuscitation still sounds like no-one else.

Gabriel Olafs possesses an exceptional talent for telling a stirring symphonic story through instrumental music. At just 19, the composer and pianist wowed viewers and a live audience on Icelandic TV during his first ever live performance, where he was discovered by Björk's manager Derek Birkett, announcing a record deal with One Little Indian Records shortly after. "My favourite thing is to compose a 'theme' for somebody - a character or even a place. A memorable melody that instantly takes you somewhere else" the young musician elucidates. At just 14 years old he wrote 'Absent Minded' - an imagined theme tune and subsequent lead single from his debut album of the same name. "I am very visually-minded, and I often compose to an imaginary story or character. You could say my album is a score to a non-existent film."

Previously only released on cassette in 1985 on Carl Weingarten's own Multiphase Records, 'Living In The Distant Present' is now available on vinyl, CD and digital for the first time on Azure Vista Records. The album is a rare treat for fans of guitar ambient, tape loops and the experimental side of new age music. When listening to this album one can't help but wonder that had it initially received a wider distribution it surely would have been considered an ambient classic. Carl Weingarten is one of the unsung heroes of American minimalism. Even though he's been active for close to four decades, his work is just now starting to receive the praise it deserves. On 'Living Ín The Distant Present' slowly shifting synth patterns is joined with his signature guitar playing a tranquil, stretched out sound that blur the lines between played and processed, occasionally sonically closer to violins or flutes than guitars. Incredibly sparse and evocative, there's a tasteful zen-quality to these 12 tracks. Weingarten's compositions appear both timeless and tranquil. 'Living In The Distant Present' bridges the gap between the most cosmic krautrock of the 1970s, the experimental American new age music from the 1980s and modern day minimalism such as Windy & Carl and Christopher Willits. In his concern for sonic texture Weingarten's music resembles Brian Eno's ambient records, especially his collaborative efforts with Robert Fripp, where guitars are gradually looped and processed into shimmering clouds of sound. Azure Vista Records is proud to bring this lost classic back in print and introduce it to a new generation of experimental music listeners! Grammy award winning artist RAC (pronounced Ar-Ay-Cee)—known as André Allen Anjos—will release his highly anticipated new album EGO on July 14 via Counter Records. The record follows the release of Anjos’ 2014 album Strangers, which SPIN called, “…an impossibly smooth listen.” With this release, Anjos is re-directing RAC to songwriting which accounts for the record’s intimate but full-lunged tone, as heard on the records’ second single “I Still Wanna Know,” featuring vocals and a guitar solo from Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo as well as additional production by Classixx, that debuts today.
