"Fixtures and Chucks to Make for Woodturning" will help woodturners
save money, expand their abilities and master new challenges,
giving them more success and confidence at the lathe. It gathers
all the essential information about woodturning chucks and fixtures
in one place for the first time, making it more accessible. More
than merely a reference for dedicated turners, this book is
designed to help both beginners and advanced turners improve their
skills and broaden the range of projects they tackle at the lathe,
by presenting a carefully crafted combination of how-to advice and
interesting, engaging projects. This book explains how to get the
most from commercial chucks, centres and faceplates. It also shows
how readers can make their own, tailoring the wood holders
precisely to the work they want to do.
Indoor residential environments have a direct influence on human
health, both in developed and developing countries. Significant
levels of indoor pollution can make housing unsafe and can
negatively impact on human health. Housing, therefore, is a key
health factor for people all over the world, and various parameters
such as air quality, ventilation, hygrothermal comfort, lighting,
physical environment, building efficiency, and others can
contribute to healthy architecture and the conditions that can
result from the poor application of these parameters. Health and
Well-Being Considerations in the Design of Indoor Environments
addresses issues concerning indoor environmental quality (IEQ),
including air quality and ventilation, access to daylight and
views, acoustic conditions, and control over lighting and thermal
comfort, as well as the impact that this environment can have on
human health and mental well-being. The book also investigates the
functional aspects of interior design such as whether the layout
provides easy access to tools and sufficient space for occupants.
It also considers energy demand and building energy losses due to
such issues as air renovations and enclosure infiltrations.
Covering topics such as sustainable design, pollution, building
materials, and lighting, this book is an effective resource for
students, professors, academicians, researchers, architects,
designers, planners, engineers, interior designers, building
managers, construction companies, and other industry professionals
looking to increase building occupant satisfaction by considering
all aspects of IEQ.
Loaded with complete plans and easy-to-follow construction tips,
Garden DIY offers a creative mix of both practical and decorative
projects for gardening enthusiasts. Brother and sister team
Samantha and Daniel Johnson present 25 hands-on projects for
aspiring horticulturalists. From a hummingbird feeder, bee-friendly
flower gardens, cold frames, and trellises to compost bins,
birdbaths, sundials, and a mason bee lodge, clear step-by-step
colour photographs guide the reader through each hands-on project.
An introduction to the DIY mind-set explains the positive benefits
and satisfaction of building things yourself and provides an
overview of the basic tools and skills needed to complete each
task.
Originally published by "Popular Mechanics" in 1941, this classic
manual is a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of American
craftsmen. The collected projects, written by various craftsmen,
demonstrate how to build a 10-inch thickness planer, a "swing saw"
(or cut-off saw), and a hand-built hydraulic press, in addition to
drill presses, jigsaws, sanders, bending brakes, band saws, a wood
lathe, and many other useful machines. All of these machines are
built with simple and highly available materials, and every project
is accompanied by the original instructions, illustrations, and
measured drawings. In addition, this vintage reprint offers its
readers a unique look into a period in American history--when
materials and labor were stretched thin, and American craftsmen
were forced to "bootstrap" solutions out of the bare essentials
available to them.
This book contains a comprehensive range of data, which is required
in the metalworking workshop and by those designing a wide range of
engineered items, tools and machines. It provides, in a single
concise volume, data that is only otherwise available by reference
to many different sources or more expensive publications. For those
involved in restoration work, the book also includes details of
items not now used, and for which data is not easy to locate.
Harold Hall was, for a number of years, the editor of Model
Engineers' Workshop magazine and is the author of four previous
books in this indispensable series.
