Shot in black and white (with occasional touches of colour), this is an atmospheric rites-of-passage tale with a musical score by Stewart Copeland and featuring many members of the so-called eighties 'Brat Pack'.

Ruby supports Ada both emotionally and practically as she waits for Inman's return - but as the war drags on and her letters go unanswered, Ada finds it increasingly difficult to keep the faith.

When Samuel, Daniel and his brother Robbo (Steven Mackintosh) get caught up in an IRA attack on Manchester city centre, Daniel begins to rethink the choices he has made in the past and wonders if he can become a better person in the future.
