Stase Michaels draws on a lifetime of experience as a dream analyst and three degrees in psychology to lead you through the magical forest of dream interpretation. In this eclectic, in-depth look at dreaming, she explores how dreams happen and why they are a reliable source of self-knowledge. Michaels also delves deeper, explaining the five simple steps that help beginners understand dream technique; she also provides information on nightmares, dreams about friends and family, and mystical experiences that occur in the guise of dreams.

Can the mind, one's true essence, or soul travel through dream? Can we interact with future children and deceased loved ones while dreaming? This colorful book asks those questions and more, as the reader takes a journey through time and place, across culture and religion. Announcing dreams and dreams around the time of death are highlighted and examined alongside related phenomena followed by tips for greater dream awareness.
This book surveys both the scientific and the spiritual terrain of altered states of consciousness, highlighting how extrasensory encounters can be soul-healing balm. It explores a wide range of cultural interpretations of out-of-body experiences, from shamanistic practices to the importance of dreams in ancient world cultures. A dozen or more interviews with health-related professionals present unique, holistic glimpses of our inner lives. Dreaming takes center stage, with the author presenting her most profound and insidious dreams. Part reference work and part guidebook, this book tells readers how to make the most of their dream experiences through a variety of techniques like incubation, talisman creation, tarot and more.

Along with a classification of types and functions of dreams, chapters include information such as how to keep a dream journal, how to remember one's dreams, how to identify 25 different dream types and how to follow your own dreamwork process. This book provides a succinct blend of available dreamwork methods for readers to find the existential message of their dreams and grow from them.
For Freud, dreams were the royal road to the unconscious: through the process of interpretation, the manifest and sometimes bewildering content of dreams can be traced back to the unconscious representations underlying it. But can we understand dreams in another way by considering how the unconscious is structured by our social experiences? This is hypothesis that underlies this highly original book by Bernard Lahire, who argues that dreams can be interpreted sociologically by seeing the dream as a nocturnal form of self-to-self communication. Lahire rejects Freud's view that the manifest dream content is the result of a process of censorship: as a form of self-to-self communication, the dream is the symbolic arena most completely freed from all forms of censorship. In Lahire's view, the dream is a message which can be understood only by relating it to the social world of the dreamer, and in particular to the problems that concern him or her during waking life. As a form of self-to-self communication, the dream is an intimate private diary, providing us with the elements of a profound and subtle understanding of who and what we are. Studying dreams enables us to discover our most deep-seated and hidden preoccupations, and to understand the thought processes that operate within us, beyond the reach of our volition. The study of dreams and dreaming has largely been the preserve of psychoanalysis, psychology and neuroscience. By showing how dreams are connected to the lived experience of individuals in the social world, this highly original book puts dreams and dreaming at the heart of the social sciences. It will be of great value to students and scholars in sociology, psychology and psychoanalysis and to anyone interested in the nature and meaning of dreams.
Originally published in Great Britain in 1972 and distilled from the collective wisdom of the great interpreters of dreams - Freud, Jung, Adler, Stekel and Gutheil, among others - this comprehensive key to the baffling language of dream symbolism is a thought-provoking and invaluable guide to the uncharted country of the mind. Tom Chetwynd has isolated for the first time the rich meanings of over 500 archetypal symbols from the indiscriminate mass of dream material, and rated the likelihoods of the various possible interpretation in each case. Here are the essential clues to understanding the ingeniously disguised, life-enriching, often urgent messages to be found in dreams.
This book is based on certain dreams in my life, that is to say, I would have a dream about something that left a mark on me and gave me such emotion to actually create a literal piece. How many times have we had dreams, such as a friend dying or a lover leaving, even though it may or may not have happened? Then a week or so later, fate steps in and takes this person out of our lives? Wow, is that karma or what? Or, when we love someone so much that it hurts us so deep, when we are ignored or all of a sudden cheated on or had our heart broke, all because this person decided that it was best for them to move on and not tell us. Talk about extreme and emotional pain, right? So, how do we handle that? I guess we could just say, forget it and move on, but everyone is not as strong as that. These types of people fret over that or cry and then what do they get in return, but someone who was a friend laughing at them, or someone spreading rumors about them? Paranoid, am I? That is the typical attitude today, that we have to live in a dog eat dog world, get them before they get us, and kick a man when he's down mentality. So, now is where we get into the "wishes" aspect. All of us whether we are well off or not have one time or another wished that we were someone else or that we were in another situation. Sometimes, we may even wish that special lover back into our lives even though they are married at the present or don't love us anymore. It doesn't matter who you are, whether rich, poor, big, or small have all wished to be someone or somewhere else, especially when the going gets tough. I have learned that God (or whatever deity you believe in) knows what's best for us and will give us ourneeds, so in essence, we do receive our wishes in due time, according to his will. I am hoping that anyone who reads this book will find something in it to help him or her cope with whatever is on their minds. For instance, if you want a lover back in your life and it will never happen, perhaps you may find something here to put your situation into perspective and realize that life will get better, certainly, it could be a lot worse. Also, I want to reiterate to never give up on your dreams, even though far-fetched or abnormal people make them seem, you can make anything happen for yourself, if you believe in yourself.
When a child talks about a vivid nighttime dream, it can be difficult for adults to know how to respond. Dream researchers Kelly Bulkeley and Patricia Bulkley take readers beyond "it was just a dream" to help children and adults understand why we dream and how dreams can help us unlock our creativity and make sense of our lives. The book introduces readers to the basic psychology and neuroscience of dreaming, then explores dreams from early childhood through adolescence. The book focuses on what psychologist C. G. Jung called the "big dreams" of childhood-intensely memorable dreams that can blaze themselves into children's memories and remain a haunting, often inspiring, presence throughout their lives. While acknowledging that a complete interpretation of any dream requires personal input from the dreamer, the authors show readers how to identify recurrent patterns in dreams that reflect the primal wisdom and the healthy growth of every child's mind and imagination. Children's Dreams offers practical advice about how adults can best communicate with children about dreams to offer reassurance and to cultivate a child's imagination and development.

Mother Nature is in the business of writing software programs in DNA. Dreaming is our software program, and it is also how early Homo sapiens learned logic and the use of tools. Author Jerry DC Nelson is neither a scientist, a doctor, nor a physiologist-just an engineer with a bottomless thirst for details on how everything works. When some of his dreams became intriguing, Nelson began to wonder why we dream. What makes us dream, and how do we dream? During Nelson's search for answers, he interviewed friends, read books and articles on the dreaming brain, and watched television programs pertaining to the functions of the brain. In all his research, he never found any satisfactory answers to the question of why we have these wonderful, unique, strange, and bizarre dreams. Then, after recording hundreds of dreams, he started to see particular patterns emerging, which lead him to formulate several theories. When Mother Nature was worked into the equation, everything fell into place. After having recorded more than 4,000 dreams and conducted many years of research, Nelson is confident that he has enough detailed information to back up his theories on why we dream. "Logistics of Dreaming" is his way of sharing some of Mother Nature's brilliancies concerning the dreaming brain. |
