The English for Life Home Language series contains contemporary
learning and teaching material for home language learners and uses
similar themes to provide a source of general knowledge of
increasing depth. English for Life is an integrated language text,
compiled according to the requirements of the Curriculum and
Assessment Policy Statement and approved by the National Department
of Education for use in schools. The texts extend the learner’s
understanding and application of language usage and language
skills, as learners are required to interpret and respond to a
variety of visual material; reading and understanding literature. A
Teacher’s Guide for each level provides suggestions for presenting
lessons and a full set of answer keys. An accompanying CD assists
teachers with copies of rating scales: rubrics, crosswords and
dealing with exams.
The Teacher’s Guide for English for Life Grade 11 has been compiled
according to the requirements of the National Curriculum and
Assessment Policy Statement. The Teacher’s Guide supports the
teacher’s task by providing Teaching, Learning and Assessment Plans
for the year; guidance for lesson planning and classroom practice;
a formal assessment programme; daily assessment with the
activities; answer keys for each module; guidance in the form of
information boxes; a user-friendly lay-out.
English for life for the intermediate phase is an integrated
language text. The series: offers a wide selection of texts for
integrated literature and grammar studies; caters for the needs and
interests of intermediate phase learners by developing their
communication skills in various registers and contexts, and
extending their knowledge of English grammar and spelling; empowers
learners to respond with confidence and ease to the challenges of
our dynamic, multicultural society; follows a text-based and
communicative approach; encourages self-management, critical
thinking, creativity and effective communication in a variety of
situations and contexts.
English for life for the intermediate phase is an integrated

The Life Skills Teacher's Guide contains a year plan, the four term
plans, possible time schedules for a full week and daily
step-by-step teaching plans for 40 weeks for the subject. The
teaching plans include the following: the weekly teaching plan,
hints and essential information as background knowledge before the
lessons are tackled, the rhymes and songs mentioned in the teaching
plan, complete step-by-step lessons for each day and guidance on
how to complete the prescribed assessment tasks. The CD in the
Teacher's Guide contains the year and term plans for the subject,
so that the teacher can print it out and keep it at hand, free
resources for teacher and learner, free prescribed worksheets, the
theme-oriented stories mentioned in the teaching plans, the sheet
music for the songs in the teaching plans and the assessment forms
and rubrics. The Teacher's Guide is written by experts in the field
of the Foundation Phase. All the authors have years of experience
and have been involved in series which has been successfully used
in schools. The series has been developed under the guidance of
Mart Meij whose various educational series, from Grade R to 3, are
widely used by schools. The New All-In-One series is nationally
recognised and used in many schools. The Teacher's Guides not only
provide lessons for the teacher that describe exactly what to do,
but also background information so that the teacher knows why
certain instructions are included in the lesson. The teaching plans
include innovative, multisensory activities that promote active
learning and accommodate different learning styles. The guides
contain a CD with full colour free resources which can be used over
and over by the teacher and the learner. Free worksheets on the CD
can be downloaded and printed so that it is not necessary to buy
workbooks.
All-in-one, integrated learning programmes; Teacher's guide. The
all-in-one series is a fully integrated, outcomes-based package for
Grades R-3. It includes the learning programmes for Literacy,
Numeracy and Life Skills. It has been developed in accordance with
the Revised National Curriculum Statement. The all-in-one lists of
spelling and sight words in isiXhosa, isiZulu, Sepedi (North
Sotho), Sesotho (South Sotho), Setswana and Afrikaans have been
included. It also bridges the gap for learners whose language of
instructions differs from their home language.
